Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to Caitlin. Danny was skipping across the rooftops of the Merchant's District looking for one person in particular. She was of medium height and build with hair the color of honey usually worn in a braid. Easier said than done when it comes to picking someone from a crowd. But find her Danny must, or her plans weren't going anywhere anytime soon. So Danny was skipping across the rooftops hunting for Caitlin Cockfoster, who had been especially elusive recently.
"Where are you..." Danny turned to leave when she thought she spotted the Lady Cockfoster and darted towards her. Down the walls of the rooftops in an alleyway and... ahah! Danny quickly closed in on her target and cleared her throat before speaking. "Ya been 'idin', Caity?"

Caitlin's hand went to her waist the second Danny spoke. "Queen's Danny, don't sneak up on people like that," she turned to face her..."Long time no see, I've been in plain sight where have you been? Campin in the woods again?" She smiled. It was good to see her old friend again.
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. Calm, muffled, the rest of the world blocked out by the closed door to his cabin, and here they were safe inside. Safe from reality, safe from their own complicated lives. Safe from duty. Safe from context. Just. Safe. --Caitlin

"Ehehehe..." Danny grinned under her scarf. "Guilty as charge, I s'pose. Yer lookin' good Caity." Danny stepped a little further out of the main part of the street and looked at Caitlin. "Whatcha been up to?"

"The usual, double life keeps me tied up most of the time, at least I'm not trying to avoid being married off again. Father decided with the notoriety of Faolan Skye's arrest, it could look poorly on us for associating with the man so recently prior to the scandal. Means I'm off the market for the rest of the marriageable season. How about yourself? Still running journals to the locals? I wonder what nasties you found in the woods this time." They picked up a casual walking pace and continued down the street.

"Tha's good to hear? I think? Ain' never understood you noble types." Danny nodded along about Skye's arrest. The new guy didn't seem to have any presence... Danny knew next to nothing about him. "Me? I ain' tryin' ta ge' on no marriage market'r anythin'. But yeh, been writin' down them beasties when I see em." Danny followed along and kept pace with Caitlin. "Wha' brings ya outta Merchant's District t'day? Buyin' somethin' shiny mebbe?"

"Yes, basically, sometimes doing something mundane like shopping helps us to center ourselves. Or at least it works for me. What's your excuse for being here?" She smiled, her voice and words meant to be taken lightly

"I been lookin' fer you." Danny stuffed her hands in her pockets before continuing. "Or, more specifically, the Queen. Mind if I stick wit ya till yer done 'ere? Gotta couple things ya should prolly know..."

That got her attention, and the tone of the conversation changed immediately. "Ok, I'm done here," She looked around for a second then found an ally they could dip down, a short cut back toward the docks. She nodded her head that way then took the lead. Once they were far enough away from the other shoppers she asked "What is it I need to know?"

Danny followed Caitlin quietly until she spoke. "Things're gonna be changin' in Lodan. Ya know anythin' 'bout a group called Magicae Incolentium? Group'a mages an' whatnot." Danny cleared her throat before continuing. "Well, they're lookin' ta change the way Anders're treated 'round 'ere. Tryin' ta make it a better place. But things're only gonna get worse b'fore they get better, ya see? They ain' lookin' ta start a war or nothin'. Bu' the city needs ta be on the verge'a breakin' fer what they're tryin' ta do. They're lookin' ta block all trade comin' in an' outta Lodan. They're gonna be meetin' wit a few other notable personages ta make sure they can get the logistics'a everythin' down... but they ain' got the resources ta create a land an' sea blockade to make off wit all'a the trade comin' in an' out."
Danny paused and looked at Caitlin, trying to gauge the woman's reaction. "Gotta 'it the city where it'll 'urt the most. Gotta 'it its money an' its infrastructure. Soon as the city's starvin' an' on its last legs, they're gonna be needin' 'elp ta redistribute the stolen supplies ta make sure the city ain' goin' down. Bu' they kinda need ya. The Brother'ood's the lynch pin in their plan. In my plan."

Wow.. that was a loaded line. She breathed out heavily and leaned her back against the wall. "You're asking a lot of me, Danny. It's one thing to owe you my life, but you're asking for more than that. You're asking for the lives of my guild, for the lives of my father, his staff and family." Her head fell back against the brick wall and she watched Danny with lazy eyes. The energy was sucked right out of her body. She knew what war meant, she'd fought through one already. Why else would she be the Queen of Rogues today?
"Knowing how stubborn you are, I doubt I can change your mind. You sound pretty invested already. But I'm not promising anything either. I need to know more. And I need to know when. I'm kind of in the middle of a pretty big investment myself right now..." She meant freeing Faolan Skye, and breaking into the EIRAL prison was not something many - if any - people got away with. They were the countries finest for a reason, and their facilities were designed specifically with defense in mind.

Danny looked at Caitlin with flat eyes. "Cait, I'm tryin' ta give ya a warnin' so ya can get yer affairs in order, and I'm tryin' ta get yer help ta minimize the damages all 'round. Bu this's goin' through one way or another. I'm not askin' ya ta take all'a the risks. I ain' even askin' ya ta take most'a the risks. I ain' asking fer ya ta jus' give, give, an' give. If this works, it'll be 'cause it'sa partnership. Mingo's 're gonna be workin' wit me, an' I'm lookin' ta take ta CAESAL too."
Danny paused and took a deep breath. "I know it ain' fair ta ask ya ta put yer family on the line. Bu' I'm doin' this fer the folks who don' got no family. Don' got no security. Folks tha' EIRAL an' humans an' 'igh society're more'n willin' ta ignore. Bu' if tha' still don' convince ya, then lemme 'elp ya on this special investment yer in. As a good faith gesture." Danny licked her lips beneath her scarf and waited.

"I don't know who told you that Mingo's would take your side, but they have to be mistaken. Mingo's and the Army are the tightest guilds in the city. The two of them go together like milk and cookies. Without the army to buy their tech, they'd be a wash..."
She didn't know where the CAEsAL would sit with this plot. Anything for a bid for power, probably. She pushed off the wall and stood with her feet shoulder width apart. "I'm a little older than you Danny, and I was in the heart of the last war... I fought in the thick of it, I watched my own guild leader die. I wouldn't be in charge now if they hadn't knocked him off his throne."
Just because she didn't owe the EIRAL anything didn't mean her guild orphans could use a war to make their lives more comfortable. But if the M.I. were already going to give the soldiers hell, it would serve as a good distraction for extracting one very important prisoner. "Commander Skye is innocent." She said without preamble. "Whatever you do with the defeated soldiers, he is not going to like it, but you cannot hold whatever he says or does against him. You know he is good-natured and loyal to a fault. He's given his livelihood to the army, but he's gone out of his way to protect the lives of people like us too." She was quiet a moment... watching Danny to see if she'd rebel against what Cait was saying. "I'm sure you've noticed he's not in charge of the army any more, despite his loyal service... in fact, they turned on him and locked him away. My mission is to get him back. If he wants to fight to regain his army then I say let him, he at least deserves to have the choice and right now he doesn't have anything." She missed him. And it wasn't until just now as she defended him to Danny that she realized how much.
"I'll worry about my father. I appreciate the warning - and I'll take care of the rest to get him out of the way. Hell, maybe I'll kidnap him myself. But before I do anything to help start another war, I want the commander... People will die, Danny. Maybe even you, maybe me. We'll definitely be at the top of the hit list... the EIRAL's aren't stupid. They know their best bet is in cutting off the head of the snake, and in BoR, the head of the snake is me."

Danny pulled down her scarf and gave Caitlin a crooked grin without any of her usual charm... instead, it was something more. "I toldja. I ain' lookin' ta fight. I intend ta win this war by starvin' the city itself. But Mingo's ain' gonna 'ave a choice far as workin' with us. Boils down ta 'join us an' become richer'n yer grandest plans or disappear'. See, no supplies means they can' make anythin'. Can' sell anythin'. But if they're gettin' 'elp ta stay afloat, they can take over all'a the independent stores still operatin' in Lodan. Mingo's either ge's a true monopoly 'ere in the city, or they ain' gonna be 'ere when the place is bein' rebuilt. There'll be fights, yeh, but ain' gonna be no all out war. Think 'bout what yer people do, bu' on a grander scale. M.I. ain' goin' fer rich marks. We're goin' after the city i'self. Bu' tha's neither 'ere nor there."
Danny took her hat off and ran her hands through her hair. "A'righ' then. M.I.'ll 'elp ya get yer love bird outta jail. An' yer righ'. 'e ain' all bad. Bu' soon as 'e's out, I ain' responsible fer wha' 'appens to 'im if 'e starts makin' a body count." Danny pulled her hat back onto her head and snuffed a thumb across her nose.

She shook her head, but only just. "People don't submit easily, and they don't take kindly to being manipulated. You might not want a war, but you might get one for your troubles. I hope for all our sakes things go as you intend them to... but I wouldn't bank on it."
Even so, Caitlin extended a hand to Danny. "Help me get him out, and we'll see that the Brotherhood helps you."

"If things're goin' belly up, it's gonna be me tha's takin' the 'eat. All ya gotta worry 'bout fer you is keepin' a blockade on Lodan. You'll 'ave yer 'elp. Jus' lemme know when an' where I need'a be, an' my team'll be there." Danny accepted Caitlin's handshake then quickly stuffed her hands into her pockets.
