Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
"Aaaand done!" Amon announced, clicking his mechanical hand to stop the toys. At that, the onslaught stopped, pausing for a few seconds before calmly removing themselves from Edgar. They then started to slowly make their way back to their places on the shelves, though a few continued to jam a little during the process.
"Let's take a quick break to catch your breath," Amon continued, making a few notes.
"All toy reactions have been recorded," noted Abby.
"Sectors have been written down in order of highest to lowest priority," added Abe, the Twins writing a series of notes themselves.
"Got it," Amon replied, watching some of the toys help to pick each other off of Edgar and move some of their immobile brethren off to the side.
"Well...I have to say, you lasted much longer than I thought...For these last two tests, we will be going back to spells; but this time, on the dolls," he continued gesturing to the Twins.
"Though just a heads up: they have no emotions whatsoever. I'll give you the details when you're ready. In the interim, need something to eat or drink?"

Catching his breath, Edgar retuned to his feet as Amon questioned him. He nodded, needing a moment before answering. “Some water please.” To be honest, he was surprised he lasted so long himself, but he wouldn’t share that fact, simply glad the guild leader praised him even slightly.
He watched with curious eyes as all the different toys and mechanics got up and returned to their places. It was also odd how they seemed to have a sense of comradeship, helping one another get up and move. How did he manage to program that in?

At Edgar's request, Abby went to the back to fetch the beverage. While they were waiting for her return, Amon made a few more notes before turning his attention back to Edgar.
"So, for these last tests, we'll be doing something similar to the first test. Except this time, you'll be doing it on the dolls. We'll start with Abby, make a few notes, then proceed to try it on Abe. For the first one, I do request that the illusion affect both sight and sound. For the second one...well..." Amon started to explain, but became a little hesitant. "As unpleasant as your first spell was, it would be interesting to see how it would affect machines who don't have any actual emotions. On the other hand...well...let's just say that the Twins are nearly always together for a reason."
A second later, Abby returned with some glasses of water, giving one to Amon and one to Edgar. "Here you are," she said, as she handed the water to Edgar. "So we are now at Magic Resistance Core test?" she said, turning to Amon.
"Yup, we'll start with you, as you are the sturdier one. And then...you know what, Edgar, you can do the emotion Deceit spell on Abe; though it may not seem like it, he is more stable psychologically," Amon replied.
"Hmph," Abe grunted.
"So again, start with Deceit on Abby, we'll stop and make notes, and then use Deceit on Abe. Proceed when you are ready."

He gladly took the glass of water and drank half of it in one gulp, listening to Amon as he held the glass in his gloved hands. These dolls were curious things, apparently being very much like a living being. Drinking what remained of the glass, he placed it on the counter and then turned his attention to Abby, the doll who had brought his water.
Taking a breath to stead his nerves and finally feel calm, he then focused his attention on the doll. The illusion he chose was a simple one; mouthing the magic words as he cast the spell. If it worked, Abby would find herself in the center of the city, a crowd of people all moving around her as they hurried about their day. Some would be talking to one another or interacting with different objects around. He couldn’t get too elaborate with the trick, but hopefully it would work for the test.

The moment the spell took affect, Abby felt a huge surge go throughout her body. This was accompanied by some static in her audio sensors and a brief distortion in her visual sensor, followed by a cracking sound emanating from her chest.
At that she swiftly leapt backward, away from Edgar. "Sensors briefly distorted. Magic Resist Core compromised. Requesting retreat to avoid further magic damage," she reported.
"Permission granted," replied Amon. "Interesting...you can write your report in the back. Oh, and retrieve the back up prototypes please."
"Understood. Thank you so much for helping us out Edgar," she replied, giving a little curtsy to Edgar before making her way to the back.
"Well now, all that's left is to test out Abe," Amon noted. "Begin when you are ready."

The doll seemed to have an interesting reaction to the spell, but left before Edgar could pursue the curiosity further. Curious mechanics these dolls are indeed.
Nodding to the doll as she left, the ander turned his attention to the remaining doll. Abe had been standing there quietly while Abby was tested, but now it was his turn. Taking another breath, Edgar repeated the process to cast magic. Amon had said to try something emotion based, so fear was the chosen candidate. The fear could stem from not wanting to break, so there was some kind of anchor.
With a slight of hand, the spell was cast and Edgar waited to see how the doll would react.

And with that, Abe experienced the exact same thing: the moment the spell took affect, he felt a huge surge go throughout his body, accompanied by some distortions in his audio and visual sensors, and ultimately followed by a cracking sound emanating from his chest.
And like his sister, he swiftly leapt backward away from Edgar. "...It seems that no matter the nature of the Deceit, the same affect will occur," noted Abe. "Permission to leave?"
"Granted," replied Amon. "Hypothesis 8a: No matter the spell, similar affects will occur while under protection of a Magic Resist Core, correct?"
"Correct. Later," Abe replied, giving Edgar a wave before leaving for the back room.
"Well...this has certainly been beyond helpful," said Amon, writing a few notes down. "I'm willing to pass on a little bonus for your help today. And if nothing else, this has certainly cleared up your boredom," he continued, giving the Ander a small smile.
"Just remember: keep this between you and me. Now, is there anything I can help you out with...?"

Edgar watched with an amused expression as Abe reacted the same way Abby had. He nodded as the doll left, listening to what Amon said with a curious ear.
“No need for a bonus, but thank you for the offer,” he began with a light smile. “As for the other offer, I’d like to help you with this again some time if you would have me. I remember how difficult it was for me to find test subjects when I was doing experiments. And also, if it’s possible I was wondering if you could teach me about how technology works. I know I could never put that knowledge to use but I’ve always wondered what went on beneath that metal shell.” His gaze drifted over to one of the broken clockwork creatures.

"...Experiments...?" thought Amon, the image of Edgar in Iaco's shop suddenly flashing through his mind. "....naaaah...it couldn't be..."
"Well...I don't know if I can actually teach you, but yeah, I can at least show you how they work," he replied with a smile. "Though if you don't mind, I'd like to save that lesson for another time...sorta got to do some damage control..."
