Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to Amon It was a slow day for Edgar. And by a slow day, he meant that he saw no need to open the shop doors and decided to walk around the district instead, maybe pay someone a visit. No one came to mind, however, as Edgar didn’t seem to have many friends. And by that, he meant that he didn’t have any. But that never bothered him, he had a successful job (two actually) and didn’t require much from life other than a good book to read.
However today he wanted to do something different. And who better to visit than the guild leader? He pushed open the shop door and stood at the entrance for a moment, completely amazed by all the mechanical devices within. The feline Ander held his hands in front of him to keep from touching anything as he approached the counter, looking for Amon. “Anyone here?” he called out in a gentle voice.
Amon was in the back, tinkering at a project when he heard the voice. "Hm...? Oh, hey Edgar," he said as he walked out of the back room, greeting the man.
"What can I help you with? Slow day for you too?" he asked. It was a fairly rare occurrence, especially so, as Amon didn't feel like there would be any new trouble showing up...

“A bit. Is there anything you need help with? I realize that I don’t seem to do much for the guild other than send in some money every now and then. I have some time; wouldn’t mind helping out if you could use it.” He wasn’t bothered by his lack of involvement, but today he was bored, what else could be said about it? His eyes drifted to some of the nearby clockwork creatures as they spoke.

"Well, not really..." Amon began, before stopping to consider something. There were not too many customers around...none at all, in fact, so Amon could reasonably close up for the day. There were also some things he wanted to test out too, though they required exactly what Edgar was: an Anderswelter. Even better: Edgar was one of the most level-headed people in his guild, right behind Gabe. He would rather have Edel help him out with one test in particular...but at the same time, he would rather keep some trade secrets.
"Actually, I got a couple of questions for you: one, I know you Anders know various spells, what spells do you currently know?" he asked.
"And two: can I trust you?"

The feline shifted a little, surprised by the questions, however he didn’t let it show on his face, not too much at least.
“I’ve learned the basics in deceit magic, and yes I would hope you can trust me.” He looked to the guild leader with honest eyes, although he only had one eye to look at in return. Whatever Amon had planned would surely be interesting. And a good pick up from the slow day.

"Basics..." Amon thought. "...I assume Edel is more experienced...but if I can't get past the basics, how can I withstand some of the more advanced attacks...?"
"Alright then. Just a reminder though: I know your secrets. By the end of this, you'll know some of mine. Let's keep it that way," Amon said as he went to lock the front door, change the sign to "Closed," and close all the curtains. As he made his way back to the back, he began making a series of clicking noises using his mechanical fingers before snapping his human ones.
At that snap, every single toy moved to stare at Edgar in the center.
"You called?" asked Abby as the Twins made their way from the back, carrying some clipboards.
"Yeah, we're going to start a few tests. Namely Scenarios 5 through 8," replied Amon, taking one of the clipboards and making a few notes.
"So, Edgar," he said turning to the man. "A little background information before we begin: As you can see, every toy in this store also doubles as a security system. Unless they are properly purchased, they will A) attack and pin down any rowdy persons that need to be taken down, and B) resist all attempts at hoisting by making their way back to this store. Unfortunately, that only works if said perpetrators are human. However, in recent days, I have been able to come up with some measures that gives every device in this store, especially my arm and the Twins, a form of magic resistance. That being said, while I have reduced the number of breakdowns by about 75%, I haven't actually had a chance to test them out again, as well as a number of other tests."
"That's where you come in," Amon continued with a smile, a slight devious gleam in his eye. "Any questions before we begin?"
Teased about this waaaay back [HERE] and I've sorta been wanting to show it off in some shape or form.

Edgar nodded as he watched Amon click away to his robots. When he snapped his fingers and all the clockwork devices turned to focus on the Ander, he couldn’t help but be unnerved, eyes going wide as he glanced around at all the devices.
Relaxing as Amon explained, Edgar quickly understood just how mechanically inclined the one-armed man was. “Just one question,” he said, pausing before continuing. “Should I wear goggles?” The feline Ander rather valued his eyes and didn’t want to have any gears landing in them.

"...Fiiiiine..." Amon sighed, gesturing one of the Twins to fetch a pair of goggles from the back. Once they retrieved the pair, Amon handed them over to Edgar.
"Though you really won't be needing those for this first test," he said as he wrote a couple of extra notes before making a new series of clicking. At that, all the toys in the room shifted, ready to pounce at a moment's notice.
"For this first test, it's really simple: hit me with a deceit spell," said Amon as he put the clipboard down. "Doesn't matter what you want it to be: big, small, whatever. Hit me up when you're ready."

He took the goggles and adjusted them over his eyes. It was better to be safe than, well, just look at Amon for the alternative.
At the mention of doing a spell, Edgar moved his weight a little, unsure of what to expect. He decided to do something simple; influence Amon’s thoughts a little. A sudden bout of sadness should be wasy enough, it could stem from his lost eye and arm. Moving his hand slightly, the magic user mouthed the words for the spell, concentrating on the guild leader and how he wanted him to respond if the magic worked.

At once, Amon felt his arm make a small spazam before becoming unresponsive. "Huh...not as bad as last time..." he thought. Then something began to trouble him. If it weren't for the loss of his arm, he wouldn't have to do all of this; heck could have normal relationships with anyone, without the fear of his arm going bust.
[Your orders?] clicked the Twins.
Amon ignored them, still fixated on his arm. As a wave of sorrow over took him, he realized some of the simple things he missed: feeling in his arm, being able to be around his mother, being able to wink, proper depth perception. He could feel his eye begin to water as he began to remember how he lost his arm and eye...
...and immediately sadness turned to rage.
He suddenly slammed his human fist on the back table, the shock reverberating through his being. "...I know I said anything at all, but some friendly advice: be sure you know your targets before you attempt to fiddle with their emotions," Amon said through gritted teeth, a flash of anger and madness reflected in his eye for a second.
With a sigh, he straightened up, shaking his hand around to ease the pain, blinking away the tear that was about to form in his eye. He looked at his arm, and after some coaxing, was able to move it again."Hypothesis 5 has support," Amon replied to the dolls after making a series of clicks with his mechanical arm. "Arm cannot function for the duration of the spell. Hypothesis 5a created: if outside stimuli is introduced, such as pain or something else to shock the mind, then duration shortened. Hypothesis 5b: if outside stimuli is introduced, then arm recovery duration is shortened," he continued, noting the faster recovery in his arm compared to the last time. "At least the increased magic resistance resulted in a smaller spazam."
"All right then, ready for Test 2?"

The feline ander jumped back as Amon slammed a fist on the table. Well, that could have gone better. Edgar could only shrug as the gray-haired man gave him ‘friendly’ advice. He had picked sadness because he felt like it was the easiest to call up in the man. Next time he’d do a different emotion, however.
He listened in silence as the new hypotheses were spoken and then nodded when he asked if he was ready for the next test. “What’s next?” he asked, curious about what Amon would have in store.

"Oh, for this next part..." Amon started, flipping through his notes.
"It would be wiser to test out Scenario 8 first," stated Abby.
"Our sensors will be able to pick up the minute differences better if we aren't hindered by magic," stated Abe.
"Right then! For this next test, we'll pretend you'll need to be taken down. The toys all around you will jump and latch onto you in an effort to pull you down to the ground and immobilize you. The good news: these have gone through a number of treatments, so at the most, a few of the toys may have a gear or two be displaced or they will completely jam up. The bad news: I can't guarantee it won't...hurt," Amon explained, an evil grin slowly forming on his face.
"Make sure those goggles are seated properly," he warned. After giving the man some time to prepare himself, Amon made some clicks with his arm and snapped his fingers.
At that, the toys all proceeded to jump on Edgar, a tide of metal and gears flowing down to pin the man down.

Sighing, he tightened the goggles around his head, making sure nothing could slip in. Was this pay back for making him sad angry? Edgar wasn’t sure, but he wouldn’t be surprised if it was. He nodded slightly, and then the attack came.
It happened suddenly, feeling all the cold metals all over him, but he tried to fight back. He brushed and swatted the creatures away, going as far as to grab and throw the ones that tried to cling to his face. They were doing their job however, as Edgar was unable to move from the spot he stood in. He wasn’t going down onto the ground too easily however, that would depend on what ran out first; his endurance or the metal creatures attacking him.
"Nothing makes us so lonely as our secrets." -Paul Tournier
"It appears that the time it takes to pin down the target will vary, there is only a 1.5 second delay in the toys' reaction," noted Abby.
"Though it seems like there are a few casualties, chances are he will fall long before they stop moving," noted Abe.
"Hrm..." Amon responded as he casually caught one of the tossed toys and gently put it on the table, where it promptly jumped back into the fray. Abe was right though: though Edgar was able to toss and beat some of the toys away, due to a combination of design and (for a few) just coincidentally breaking down, many of the toys latched and stayed on the man, effectively locking in place. In just a few more moments, they would be able to bring him down.
"Well...at least it's still working..." he muttered. "Repair estimation?" he asked one of the dolls.
"Disregarding breaks, assessment and repairs will take approximately 15 hours and counting," replied Abby.
"Factoring in breaks, about 24 hours and counting," added Abe.
"Small price to pay I guess," Amon sighed as he awaited for Edgar to run out of stamina and fall.

Edgar huffed, giving it the best effort he could, but all the little mechanics were too much for him. He was short on breath and soon fell to his knees, crouching down after that, waiting for the onslaught to stop. Hopefully he wouldn’t be too injured for the ordeal, and hopefully he wouldn’t have to be a test subject again any time soon.
