Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
She thanked him for holding the door, and when he offered his arm she blushed a rose tint. "You know what I love about this place?" She asked, then proceeded to answer. "The ceilings." She looked up. "Nowhere else in Lodan do they build the ceilings this high. I could fly up there in the rafters and not feel trapped." She bumped him with her shoulder. "Would you like to see them? The rafters, they're just as ornately carved as the rest of this place."

It took him a moment to answer her question. He had never exactly been off the ground before, well except for that time in the hot air balloon. “I wouldn’t want to trouble you.” he answered, looking up at the ceiling for the first time. He hadn’t noticed that the whole place was so high up. It was almost as if it had been built for the winged Anders to fly around in.
She grinned, her eyes lit up and she clung to his arm. "You don't know what you're missing," she whispered. Clairees wings fanned out wide and high over her head. Without really thinking through the motions, she reached for both his hands and tugged them around her neck. Clair took a step closer into his body and wrapped her arms around his back, holding him tight to her. Now nearly nose to nose, she paused to think.
"Oh, um," she stammered a little breathlessly, then grinned again. "Hang on tight."
Her wings gave a strong downward tug, forcing air to balloon under their envelope and thus, they had lift. Their feet left the ground and the rose slowly as her wings made deliberate, arching swoops.

Unsure of what she was doing, Lasair could only look in confusion as Clair came close to him. He was hardly aware of his arms until the words “Hang on tight,” reached his ears. Why would he need to do that? The answer came a moment later as he suddenly clung to his raven-haired companion as if for dear life. Face buried in her neck, he looked down and saw the ground much farther away than it should have been. A surge of emotions came over him. Excitement, fear, joy, nervousness, in all it was a truly new experience for the pretty boy. And he hadn’t experienced anything new since before he returned to Lodan. He wanted to say something to her, but the words were caught in his throat. All he could do was hang on, and that he did.
Clairee felt the jolt that went through him, the way he was startled into taking her advice and she smiled so hard her face heart. There was a peculiar sensation that came with flying. There was something about extending ones wingspan its full extent, testing your feathers and floating in the air. They reached the first rafters edge and she eased them onto it. The ground was a good twenty three feet below, and she could see from up here how all the light from the stain-glass windows painted the tiled floors with color and light. "Beautiful isn't it?" She remarked. Her eyes were still dazzling with her joy and excitement. She was glad he'd convinced her not to spell her wings away. She needed the stretch.

Despite feeling something solid beneath his feet, Lasair was still reluctant to let go of Clair. He did ease back a little, just enough to get a better view of the place. He hadn’t realized it was so pretty in here, the way the colors made a beautiful pattern and seemed to dance as the light wavered slightly. It was one of those things that could only be experienced from a bird’s eye view. “Beautiful doesn’t begin to describe it,” he breathed quietly. He was still right next to her; no need to be overly loud, and yet he was sure he would have been just as quite had she been several paces away. After several moments, he finally felt comfortable enough to ease back a bit more and get a better view of her face. He couldn’t help but return to his grinning self then, seeing her so alive and excited. This building truly was magical, wasn’t it? Being able to bring the best sides of people out to have some fun. Everyone needed that from time to time.
She'd carried others before, mostly on the retreat from a dangerous situation, but she hadn't been able to really share the thrill like they were now. Her eyes met Lasairs and he grinned. It was infectious, this carefree respite from reality. He breathed his reply in a half-whisper and she could feel it lightly on her skin. Until now she didn't know how much she appreciated running into him today.
"I wonder if this is what it felt like in the other world? High ceilings, beamed rafters, maybe they'd have no ceiling at all- just an open dome, where you could watch shooting stars and hang out on the catwalks?" She stared up at the closed roof and dreamed of seeing more.

“Have you ever tried sitting on a rooftop at night? It’s the closest thing I can imagine to this.” He wondered if it was still daylight outside, or if it was closer to night. The stained glass windows seem to say that the sun was still up, but it could be fleeting by now. He couldn’t even remember what time of day it had been when he arrived here; the time had just melted away.
“You should fly more often,” he added after a moment. “You deserve to smile like this all the time.”
It was indeed still daytime, though in that moment Clairee wasn't living in the present. Her mind was elsewhere, like a dreamscape, and she'd dragged Lasair there along with her. His words cut through the fog of her brain and her expression softened. She was genuinely touched by his sweetness. It was, it seemed genuine...
"Thank you," she breathed back, just as softly. Then she ran out of things to say. Although he'd put some space in between them to look around, they were still holding on to one another. Was he afraid of heights? He didn't seem like it, but maybe he was afraid of falling. That could be it. Clairee relaxed her shoulders and let her wings hang down like the cascade of a waterfall, except with feathers. The beams of light filtered in actual beams at this height, cutting through and around the rafters so that they left varying shapes and patterns on their bodies and faces.
Lasairs hair was half in, half out of the shadows, catching fire where it was touched by natural light. Clairee remembered thinking earlier that it's color distracted her from his smile. Both were pretty bright though, now that she was paying attention.

“No, thank you. For teaching me, for showing me around, and for dragging me up here to see how amazing this place is; as well as how amazing you are.” With her wings settling down, light poured in from behind her face, highlighting her hair. It shined and shimmered in a way that you’d have to be there to understand. And her wings simply looked amazing with the added light. He had never exactly examined feathers before, but hers were beautiful. Or maybe it was the wine. He could always blame the wine. But no matter the cause, he truly liked being here with her, right now, in this moment. It was magical, to say the least.
Too many compliments, she was sunk. Clairee's chipper relaxed mood, his pretty words, the dancing light, that smile? She almost giggled, and she actually did lean in with her eyes drifting closed. I think I'll kiss him, she thought. Then her eyes shot open and she gasped at herself. Clair turned her face away and stared out the window like something had caught her attention. That was close. She hoped he couldn't see the thoughts burning behind her embarrassed tinge of skin, because they were reeling a hundred kilometers a second. What was she thinking? How could she think that? What was she trying to do here? How did they even end up UP here? What about her supplies- oh crap.
"Oh no, what if someone cleaned up my notes in the library?! We've been gone a while," she shook out her hands, trying to shake her nerves, then she stepped close to him again. "Going down?" She asked, ready to hold on tight and drift them both back to the ground.

Still admiring her wings, Lasair looked back to see Clair leaning in close, eyes closed. One kiss wouldn’t hurt, he thought with a mental grin. But as he was about to lean in too, Clair snapped away, as if guilty for almost letting herself do that. Alas, perhaps another day.
“You’re right, we should head back,” he said with a less-intoxicated grin. He tightened his grip around her and prepared for the return to the floor, hoping it would be as smooth as the ride up.
Clairee had to focus on not hyperventilating as she lowered them carefully to the ground. All of a sudden she was hyperaware of everything. She could feel how his weight balanced with hers as they tied themselves together for the descend. She could feel each of her breaths in the space of one of his, and she tried, so hard to breathe shallow breaths so she wouldn't press against him too much. He was warm, drat it. And she was aware.
"Uh I don't think, I mean, does wine spoil? I feel funny," Clair said after their toes touched the ground. Her wings curled in around her and hugged her body for comfort. She watched Lasair's face as she waited for an answer, and hoped she wasn't saying anything stupid. She didn't drink more than a glass, so was it the wine, or was this just her - being a stereotypical girl?

The ride down was as gentle as Lasair hoped for, except for the fact that Clair was suddenly on edge. Stepping back to give her some air, Lasair smiled at her gently. “Wine does not spoil. It becomes more powerful with age. And do keep in mind that we found the wine in a magic building full of magic people. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of that magic found its way into your glass.”
He gestured to a hallway at their left, hoping to distract her from whatever ailed her, be it the wine or his gentleman charm. “Was the library this way?” he asked.
Stap bein so gosh darn charmin j/k j/k Clairee perked up and looked what direction he pointed. "yeah, see, you're learning the place pretty well. That's the right way, lets go before my stuff disappears in this 'magical' place. I wouldn't be surprised if it tidied itself up," Not saying that it did... just that , you know, she wouldn't be surprised is all. They hustled down the corridor till they reached their destination. (there may or may not have been stairs involved, I can't remember) But once back in the library Clair was relieved to see her things were right where she left them. Immediately she spelled her wings into wisps and slid into the desk chair.
"Alright," she said all matter of fact, brushing a few strands of hair behind her ear. "Lets make a map."
