I don't want good and I don't want good enough...
Caitlin sat down by the river, brushing pebbly black sand off her boots for the millionth time since sneaking back down here this morning. It was nearing dusk and she still hadn't left. She hadn't spoken a word all day either. When she left home this morning, she'd gone straight to the sky harbor, got on her ship and checked in with navigation. She poured over their charts, couldn't find what she was looking for, and left.
Something was eating her up from the inside out. It was under her skin and she felt anxious, a need to get up, to go, to be busy. She went from the sky harbor to the docks and didn't realize till she got there that all her ships were out at sea. Dejected she started back toward the Central when her feet took over. At some point she realized where she was going. Maybe when she hit the train tunnel, maybe the bridge. She peeled off her boots and most of her clothes before jumping in this time. She tossed them down on the bank then got above the middle of the river so she could dive in.
The buzzing in her mind didn't quiet till she hit the water. Fingers extended, chin tucked in, she gave a performance worthy dive. It was eons better than the fall she'd done the previous time. Cait resurfaced and slicked back her long hair. There were birds chirping. Sunshine met her smiling face and she closed her eyes to soak it up. Finally, some peace.
It wasn't until perhaps an hour later that she left the water and laid on the shore. She had her boots in her hands, not on her feet, and kept cleaning them absently, just to keep her hands busy. Her eyes were on the water... reflecting, unseeing in the here and now.
