Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
OPEN TO MI + ALL (Trial for Benji, Tyrrel, Lefiruc, Clariee, and probably Danny as well. ) Jak had finished explaining exactly what Magicae Incolentium was about to all these newcomers, and they had discussed things for a few hours afterword. There was also a small amount of biscuits and cucumber sandwiches consumed, and a large amount of tea drunk. By the time they all started to file out of the building, the sky was dark and ominous clouds loomed overhead, threatening rain once again; small tendrils of fog lay low to the ground and curled around the briars and tree roots at the forest’s edge. All in all, Jak was quite pleased. Other than the little squabble earlier, everything went quite smoothly. During the course of the evening, mostly all the questions were answered, they all seemed pretty enthusiastic, he had only nearly choked on a biscuit once, and nothing had been set on fire for more than a couple seconds. The chill night air met his lungs, and he sighed, letting a cloud of his breath linger in the air a moment before dissipating. "Right, all o' you! I'll see you all again shortly, an' I expect all o' your trials to go--" Jak's cheery voice was cut off by a low growl coming from nearby in the bushes. ".....smashingly." he finished, before turning. Deep in the undergrowth, there was slight movement, and two angry looking, glowing red eyes stared back at him.
Lefiruc was surprisingly pleased with this Jak fellow. He may not be quite the master magi that Daniel had purported him to be, but for one so young he certainly knew his stuff. Was intelligent despite, or perhaps in spite of his station in the world, his views were aligned with his own... it was safe to say the lad had grown on him during their talk. He was about to reply when the bushes began to growl.
The elder flyer immediately drew the sword he kept concealed in his staff, and a second later lit the oil that ran the course of the blade. The interior of the cane-sheath was lined with an oil that didn't corrode the metal, and meant he could immediately set it ablaze if need be. He held the sword in one hand, the cane-sheath in the other in a reverse-grip as he stepped off from the castle-mansion.
"Miss Clariee, take Tyrrel, take to the air and provide recon and whatever damage you can to either drive it away or flush it out. Young Daniel I suggest you start identifying the beast the moment it becomes clear as to what it is. I want strengths, and more importantly any and all weaknesses, no matter how trivial. Benjamin, I suggest you cover my left. Jakobi, I suggest you remain on the top step and ready to bamboozle the beast if it should prove susceptible, and if not, then cover my right with your ice." ordered Lefiruc, his eyes not once leaving the sight of the bushes, his wings ready to burst forth at a moments notice. They may not suffice for true flight but he can at least use the flare of the magic to hopefully blind the creature if nothing else and make himself appear to be far larger than he truly was.

Inside the building Tyrell had to concentrate hard on what it was Jakobi was saying in order to store all the valuable information he could. Anything spoken while Jak was speaking had gone unnoticed by him but when Jak stopped talking to answer other people obviously speaking, Tyrell was able to catch the movements of lips to either get the question, or get the question from how Jak handled the response. From this, the dark haired man could tell he would be able to follow Jak with little to no question. As their session came to a close and they were led outside, Tyrell began to feel a bit of discomfort. He'd heard the rumors of the things that lurked in these woods and his wings were ready to take him into flight. His lack of hearing was made up by the sight of his eyes because as Lefiruc spotted the beast, so did he. Luckily for Lefiruc, Tyrell had walked out before him so as he turned around, the lilac eyed man was able to read the instructions the eldest man spoke to him. With a nod, Tyrell lifted his hood over his head then launched himself into the air. His wing span was quite large to accommodate his huge form and as a result, the beating of his wings created a nice breeze. Now he waited for Clairee.

Benji heard the old man- what was his name again? Lefiruc or something?- giving everyone orders. 'Cover my left.' What did that mean? Then he looked to where everyone else was staring. Were those eyes? Yes. Defiantly eyes, frightening, angry eyes. Now he understood what Lefiruc meant. He was supposed to...Fight? what with? He had no clue how to throw a punch, and he had no weapon. Even if he had, it would have been useless in his hands. But the way Lefiruc had said it, stuck with Benji. He depended on him. Benji couldn't just back away. What if someone got hurt? Then again, what if someone got hurt Because he was trying to help? He remembered what that felt like, and he didn't want to feel that way again. He shook that thought from his head. No. This time would be different. "Y-yeah!" He stepped up beside Lefiruc. He wasn't entirely sure what covering his left meant, but as long as he was on Lefiruc's left side, he thought that he was okay.
"But its cold," Clariee complained but she didn't really care. There really was a threat in the night, some shadow beastie she would bet, and since this was their neck of the woods she didn't have to be told twice to get airborne. She shrugged off her jacket and sprouted her wings with a slight wince then her brow unfurrowed with the relief of unfurling them. With a few quick flutters of her wings she gained enough lift to rise up and meet Tyrell topside.

There goes the accent. "No! No no no! You stupid old coot! You aren't supposed to fight these things! We need to get away. We need to run!" Danny's voice quivered with fear. His eyes, large as dinner plates, were focused on the bushes. Based on the distance from the city, as well as the tone of the beast and its eyes, both the color and shape, there were a few options to work with. It was fairly high up from the ground, which meant it was one of the bigger types. Danny scrambled up and away from the bushes and began looking at the surrounding clearing for a way out. "Oh why did I do something so stupid earlier..." Danny muttered to himself. His hands shook as he pulled his goggles down over his eyes. He squinted from under his goggles, just making out the dim red glow of a third eye. "Uh-oh... No... not good... not good..." Danny wiped his hands on his pants, his mouth suddenly dry. "We've got a to-" Danny's statement was interrupted when a massive centaurian creature burst forth from the trees swinging a massive stone-headed ax. The greenish brown scales crackled and rustled as the beast charged forward, its four legs tearing up great clumps of earth as it went. "Toxidon!" Danny bolted to the side, running through everything he knew about it in his head. "It'll be only one... It produces a contact poison in its throat that it can spit, and it's lethal nine times out of ten. Its scales will generally be too hard to punch through... aim for the third eye, right where the jaw connects to the neck, and the small hollow on its back where its biped torso meets its reptilian one. It's sensitive to light and heat, and doesn't do well with extreme temperature changes." Danny's words poured out in a torrent as he got as much information as he possibly could out in as little time as he could manage.

"Our people ran before from these monsters." said Lefiruc sternly as he glared out into the shadows. "I for one, am done running." When the creature burst forth and revealed itself, the elder gentleman took rapt note of the rapid deluge of information coming from young Daniel. He smirked. "Excellent. When I blind the creature, Miss Donya, I want you to rain down as much ice as you can on the creature. Yourself as well Mister Jakobi. Whilst they bombard it with the cold young Daniel, I want you and Mister O'Callaghan to aim for that hollow on its back you mentioned earlier. Benjamin, you and I will attack it with fire when I give the word." strategised Lefiruc.
"Only when I say so... timing is critical here if we're to take advantage of the temperature weakness of the beast. When fire starts, Ice stops. When fire stops, Ice starts. Understood?" he asked, waiting for everyone to confirm they understood their roles. "Flare." he said, his wings suddenly blazing out from his back in a fiery light in an attempt to blind the creature and create the opening needed for the assault to begin.
Jak was a little startled by all of the sudden yelling and commotion around him. He stuck out his chin, a little annoyed that a new recruit was giving him (and his members) orders, but seeing as he was older and had had more experience, figured he probably knew best. Jak nodded and took up his position, but as he slowly turned, he saw something move out of the corner of his eye. "Er.....mates...." he pointed toward the shadowy figure emerging from the tree line. At least nine feet tall hunched over, it has a long serpentine face with six eyes, a long tail and large arms it used as front legs. The hair on Jak's neck and arms stood on end. He tried to remember what those things were called....Nightrunners? Nightstalkers? Something like that. "...Not very good news, I'm afraid."

"It doesn't work like that!" Clariee called down from her vantage point. She couldn't just make Ice out of thin air, it had to come from something, like the dew in the trees earlier. Then Jak's words rose up to her ears and she swiveled to see what he was talking about. Her skin blanched and lost a shade of color.
"I've got a different idea. How about you sprout them wings ol' boy and the three of us haul our companions up off the ground. That or just - retreat?" Her voice grew meeker and her eyes trailed back to the HQ building, estimating their chances of getting behind closed doors before or if these long legged beasts would get there first.

"Aim for the hollow in its back?! With what? My hands?!?!? You're insane! There's a -reason- we run. The-" Danny's tirade was interrupted when Jak mentioned the second beasty. No. Not good.... Not good. "No... no no no no no..." Danny's voice trembled and he looked like he was about to collapse. Dammit Danny! Get it together. You can do this. You can do this... "O-old man! D-d-d-do what she says! Get up, get away. Take Jak and Benji with you! And whatever you do, don't use any magic!" Danny turned and mumbled to himself. "Alright... I can do this... I can do this..." Danny took a deep breath, and started running right at the Nightstalker, screaming his head off as he went. "C'mon! C'mon c'mon c'mon!" As he drew close, Danny made a sharp cut to the side and jumped. The minute he reached the apex of his leap, a platform of pearl light appeared beneath him and he launched off of it towards the wood line. The sudden surge of magic drew the attention of both of the monsters, and the Nightstalker gave chase right away. The Toxidon's attention was divided and it took a step to follow, but turned back towards the main group, it's ax held ready. With a roar and a snarl, it charge the remaining group.
Danny practically flew through the woods. "Okay... two more uses today..." Danny leaped into the air, and another platform of light appeared beneath him. He jumped off the platform and into the branches of the nearest tree. Now that he had a better vantage, the boy raced further into the woods, making as much noise as possible. The Nightstalker was nowhere to be seen, but it was there and it was chasing.

With another monster appearing, and then the pair of Anders yelling at him to fly away Lefiruc shook his head as his wings spread wide. "I cannot!" he yelled as he put out the fire on his sword before regarding the younger generations around him. "I cannot fly... my wings are too damaged from the Civil War... burned and torn and scarred... feathers are missing for the Gods sake..." he said, still keeping his eyes on the first beast. "You lot run... I will try to buy what little I can for you. I cannot fly, and I cannot run... there is nothing left for me... but to fight." he said before regarding the charging Toxidon, leaving the rest of the sentence unspoken. Lefiruc closed his eyes for a moment as if accepting his demise, before sharply opening them, his azure eyes glaring forth at the creature like twin stars of hatred, his sword and its sheath meeting the beasts axe in a cross-guard. He used his wings to brace himself from the creatures powerful blow, gritting his teeth from the pain to his shoulders and arms and legs. "GO! NOW!" he bellowed as he tried to hold the creatures weapon with his own. Lilith my love... we may be meeting again sooner than I had thought... thought Lefiruc to himself.

Despite all the shouting of orders and commands Tyrell did not hear any of them and knew only to go by instinct. It had gotten him thus far and now in the air with his black wings beating to keep him up, he could only assess the situation. Adrenaline was coursing through his veins already from the first beast but when the second beast came forth he was shocked. His thoughts were interrupted when he saw Danny bolt away leading the Nightstalker into the woods. At first his instincts were kicking in to help him but seeing the first beast charge and the old man parry him made him reconsider. Danny had gotten to higher grounds so maybe he'd be alright but not for long. Ripping his brawler's gloves off of the back of his hips, he flipped them on then pulled down the claws. Any moment now and it looked like the old man was about to give in. "Miss, help the other two," he called out to Clairee as he dove down. "Old man, get ready to move!" As he descended on the toxidon, he curled his right hand downward so the claws would stab into the third eye in the center of its head. His feet came crashing down at the hollow of its back where the two species of bodies met. "Move," he commanded as he dug his fingers into the socket of the third eye where the claws remained embedded then yanked to pull the head backwards so it would not bite down on the old man. In no way did he think he killed the thing but at least he hoped to severely harm it while allowing the eldest of them to escape. "Get the others to safety, we have to help that other kid!" Despite the things he shouted out while desperately wrestling with the Toxidon to keep it from throwing him off, he would be incapable of taking the time to see what they were saying. Tyrell could only hope Danny would stay safe enough for either himself or Clairee to fly him to safety.

Benji stood, unable to move as events unfolded before him. Lefiruc had told everyone to run, as he stayed to fight. Benji couldn't think of anything more heroic. And maybe benji would have listened to him. Run away. That's what Benji wanted to do. But then Tyrell had swooped down, also staying to fight. So how could he just run away? Benji felt ashamed that the thought had even crossed his mind. He had to try to fight. He yelled what he thought was a battle cry. "EEWWAHH!! " He Ran at the beast that Tyrell was fighting and punched it with all his might. As soon as his fist came in contact with it, flames burst out from his hand.

Danny darted from tree to tree, just barely managing to stay ahead of the nightstalker with every jump. The branches he had been on were exploding into wooden shrapnel as the creature kept lunging for him. Not good... Danny was rushing further and further into the woods without even bothering to try and disguise the sounds. If he could get more attention on him then the creatures might forget about the magic from earlier. "Okay..." Danny looked over his shoulder, but there was no nightstalker. He looked back ahead and let out a girlish scream as he dropped to the ground. The nightstalker had gotten in front of him and almost had him for dinner. Danny landed roughly and quickly rolled to his feet before he started running again. Danny dodged and wove as he ran, using everything he could to try and keep a barrier between him and the stalker. It wasn't looking good for the boy who's desperate flight was slowly being worn down by the inexorable march of the nightstalker.

Clairee was torn. At first she tucked her wings back and careened in a nose dive toward Bengi to get the lad airborne but too soon he let out an eerie cry and darted forward. She let out her wings like a parachute and they caught her about 10 feet off the ground. Her eyes trailed the boy to find him laying a fist into the creature and his hand glowed with fire. Her breath caught
"A fire starter?" She said, but then there was another glowing blaze and she could see the light off of Lufiruc's blade. Tyrell's voice echo'd over her head like a muted slur and she tried to listen but in her mind a clearer voice rang out with warning.
"Wait, stop! Danny said don't use magic!" For some reason he'd sounded so confident in relaying his knowledge that it made her fear the effects on the beast. Would it only increase his own? feed his appetite? or would they actually inflict any damage to it? Her eyes riveted to Jak. "We need Danny back," She hated saying it, and the words were ground through her teeth with resentment. She didn't like the little snob, but in a moment like this she could get past that. He had given them warning without explanation, and they needed the explanation.
Turning mid air she thrust back with her wings and plunged into the forest after the know-it-all and hoped she wasn't too late.
