Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"ok " Roy just flat answered since he was used to stuff like this "knowing my wife and son will be coming soon and know that as long as the pay is good and steady to support them" he said siting up "well latest this time it this oath guarantees a home for me and my family to settle down and not have to worry about an evil men burning it down?" he said as he played with a charm that was in his pocket of a rabbit that he got from his friend long ago.
"also is there a way to have the army logo stitched on to my jacket , since i kinda got a nice setup and dont want to lose a lot of freedom of movement in my arms? since kinda need that 8 points of arm motion, sure ill wear the pants and the boots but really would like to keep lot of freedom in the arms." he said as he took off his jacket.
He looked at Lorraine, choosing to ignore Roy for the moment. She was attractive, he had to admin, but then he'd never seen an ugly noblewoman. Which was somewhat strange in its own right. "We do not keep you prisoner, Madam, you may visit whomever you wish and seek a social life outside of the EIRAL if you wish, as long as your duties to the military come first and foremost. As for you," he said, finally addressing Roy, "We have married housing available for EIRAL members with families. They are located outside of the Barracks, and I'm afraid that the uniform policy is non negotiable. You will simply have to adjust to wearing it, though I'm sure you will find that they our combat uniforms offer quite a wide range of motion." Skye was starting to wonder who exactly this guy thought he was, and if he would actually fit in to being an EIRAL. The way he was speaking, he thought he was the second coming of some deity.

As she sat and listened to the man seated beside her she could not help but wonder what sort of man he was and where he came from. The way he spoke so openly to the high commander was shocking to say the least because to her and what she percieved of her culture is that respect was always given to those above her. Even with her father who had not been of high military status whenever he had said something neither she nor her brothers ever went against it. When the swordsman finished speaking, Lorraine looked to Faolan Skye as he answered her question. The sudden wave of relief that washed over her brought a smile to her full lips, and to try and conceal it though to no avail, she hung her head. Her fingers curled gently into Felix's fur then uncurled. She did this several times to scratch the top of his head before removing her hand to place on her lap. "Thank you, High Commander. Rest assured that I will not waste your time here today and I will serve under you and the Queen to the best of my potential," she spoke and held her head up, her smile refusing to falter. Nothing would ruin this day for her now.
Roy just gave out a sigh " well get you cant win them all when people love there uniforms " Being used to wearing mainly the same jacket, hopefully thought later on he could return to his normal clothing when he was a higher rank, but for now he would have to go with it and hope these uniforms have the freedom of movement he needed other wise he would have to find a way to customize it to allow the movement he needed.
"oh and no guns for me, i dont like kind of weapons that take no skill to use and make the user think that got power in there hand." he said as he felt he needed to cover this " just i learned that a gun most only can get one chance , and most time i had a gun against me just gave me an reason to chop off a finger or 2." he said, proud of his swordsmanship. " a sword is not a weapon , its a tool and an a part of the user, and as a swordsman I would only like to keep my sword as my only weapon as its a part of me that got me this far in life".
the woman next to her was beaming with a smile , something that was out of place . normally he would put them in right line by giving them a tease of real life , even if she is a woman , a person who wants to join the army should know where they are heading for. but however he didn't much care for this crazy lady and hope she would learn the hard way or if they ended up in some sort of training match.
Well, the swordsman was certainly full of himself, and at this point Skye didn't even care if he could back up those skills. In his experience people who talked so loud were often more trouble than they were worth. At this point the only thing keeping Faolan from throwing him through the window were the references on his desk, and the fact that he'd need to pay for the window. Though it was starting to look more and more likely.
Faolan had spent most of his adult life wielding swords, and here this guy was saying he couldn't maneuver without destroying his own uniform. Faolan leaned forward, standing from his chair and placing his palms down on his desk so that his face was closer to Roys. "Listen, Roy, your about an inch from being tossed back out on the street. If you want to make it in this military I suggest you start acting like a soldier and less like some drunk braggart I hear on my walk through the central square. I'll give you your shot, but you will respect my uniform, you will respect my men, and you will show some decorum. It's either that or I put you on the training grounds and let you see what a well trained man with a gun can do. Your sword isn't going to do you much good when you have a hole in your head from 300 yards. Now, if you want to make that a reality, keep talking, if not the next words I hear from your mouth better be yes sir." With that Skye rose to his full height and tugged slightly on his uniform top before he took his seat once more.
"Miss Blackmoore, I apologize, but I expect the same from you as well. Your father may not completely like the fact that you've come here, but he wrote a very compelling letter which I received just this morning, and I could use someone with your abilities in the recon unit." He met her gaze, ignoring Roy for the moment, unless the man decided to ignore his orders.
At this point Roy had Guessed this commander has never been learning from his fights or had any other training outside of his army training , a type of man who had never left his post. As much respect Roy gave for men like him he also didn't like people with closed eyes and ears. Reason why lodan had not swords for hire. Also Roy guessed that this guys had never seen sword styles outside of the basics of nobility .
" yes sir , but if you want to do that challenge than am open to it . " Roy wanted to show that he was not full of gas , like his employer before did .

Throughout the meeting, Lorraine had been silent in regards to the man beside her but when the issue arose with guns and the lack of skill, she found it very hard to not speak out. Her father had been a fine swordsman himself but he had the bonus of learning archery from a traditional bow and trained how to use a gun. She'd watched her father many times fire an arrow or a rifle and between the two, the rifle was the hardest for him to land a precise mark on his target simply because guns were clunky things. Nevertheless, he'd become a fine marksmen through practice of hunting but Lorraine had understood well through him that guns did take skill to aim and hit the target just as any weapon or tool. Before she could open her mouth however, High Commander Skye spoke up and she quickly let her rebellious feelings die within her. Felix had jumped for a moment when Skye stood and placed his palms against the desks but soon settled back and rested his head on his front paws.
"Yes, sir," she replied when he'd turned his attention to her to say he had expected the same from her and then mentioned her father. Lorraine looked at him dumbfounded for a long moment. Her father wrote for her? It was not unlikely that he would do such a thing, as a matter of fact she can't say she was genuinely surprised by this news but Faolan had been correct with stating that her father had not been pleased with her decision. He'd told her all about the horrors of military life to deter her but they never prevailed. She wondered what exactly it was he wrote in regards to her when the high commander mentioned a recon unit. Of all the things she thought she could be in the military, that had passed over her completely and now that it was an option, she would be more than happy to take it. Felix quietly napped at her feet now and she looked to him for a brief second before meeting the high commander's eyes again. "A recon unit, Sir? I would--I'd be a fool not to take such a position but even still are you sure I would be fit for such a position? And Felix will get to stay with me, right?"
This time when Roy spoke again, she looked to him for a moment then quickly looked back to High Commander Skye. "Sir," she spoke up to interject. "Will we be able to demonstrate our abilities before we are fully accepted?"
Faolan considered taking the man up on his ridiculous challenge, an image flashed through his mind of drawing his sidearm and emptying the one round into the over-sized oaf. Show him just what a gun could do. The image passed, however, as Faolan was not a murderer. So he just ground his teeth, took a deep breath, and walked slowly around the desk so he was behind the two recruits, "Roy..." he paused, obviously trying to speak calmly but holding back his temper at the same time, "I understand that in your previous line of work, you were used to a quite a bit of freedom in how you acted and how you dressed, but unless you can abide by our rules and regulations I think you would be better suited continuing your previous line of employment. There are plenty of wealthy individuals in this town who might offer you employment, but I doubt they can offer you as much protection." He was hoping that last point would stick in Roy's mind. As he understood it, his previous line of work had made him some enemies. "There is a chain of command here, and as a Recruit, you are at the bottom of it. That said, I would be happy to test both your skills at a later date, but being skilled is not one of the requirements to join the EIRAL." Skye waited to see what the Man and Woman's response would be, and for Roy's sake it had better not be another smart mouthed comment or a challenge. He was out of patience.

Lorraine fell quiet when the man behind the desk circled around them and stood behind their chairs. She could tell he was aggravated and dreaded what might be the result but as he spoke, he continued to keep his demeanor. Turning slowly in her chair so that she did not set him off, she looked up at him with furrowed brows and simply nodded her head. Felix, who had felt the movement of her feet against one of his legs, perked his ears up before lifting his head, awakening from his little nap to inspect his surroundings. His green eyes settled on the man behind them now and he stood so that he could turn around and see him in his field of vision completely. "Yes, sir," she vocalized quietly.
Finally Roy found what he was looking for , the one thing that all his other employers had never said "there , now that is why I came here for" he stood up to face the gentleman "protection, the one thing I was wishing and searching for." he smiled at the man , " i am sorry for putting you though a hard time before, I had to make sure that this would not end up like the others and finally have a safe place to call home for my family , you have earn my respect , Sir as well as my arm , I will abide" he said as he kneed down on one knee with his sword in front of him in its hilt standing up as a show of honor.
this is what he hoped for , never an army let alone a man who employed him never said to or protected his family , the reason why there where always moving , always looking for a home to call home. and now he found it. but will this man's words be back with strength will yet to be seen , but for now Roy will take his word for it and allow his life to be placed in this mans hands.
"It's not something special we do just for you Roy, this is a family, a brother and sisterhood that supports and protects its members. Attack one of us and you attack all of us." he said, his voice deepening slightly. It wasn't what he'd wanted to come out of Roy's mouth, but the man would learn, especially if he was relying on his brothers and sisters to offer protection to his family. He moved over to the left wall and took an ornamental sword from the wall. The hilt of the blade was plated gold with a few rubies set into the pommel, but the blade itself was twice folded steel and reflected the light in the room with its mirror shine. Faolin examined the sword carefully for any imperfections before dropping it down even with his right leg.
He turned and walked back over to the pair. "Kneel," he ordered before he began the oath. Normally, this was something done by the intake officer, but Skye had insisted, when he'd taken the position of High Commander, that he take the Oath from each and every recruit. "Do you swear on your life's blood to serve the Ebony and Ivory Royal Army of Lodan until your last breath, and protect Lodan and all those who reside within her protection from all threats near and afar?" It was an old ceremony to be sure, but the Army was built on tradition. Tradition was in her blood and bones and to change such a sacred Oath would be close to treason.

Her eyes followed the large man beside her when he stood as she could not be sure if she would need to move out of his way or if things would suddenly spiral out of control. When he'd kneeled in front of the high commander, she remained tense but was able to relax some. It was Faolan's turn to have her eyes follow him as he made his way to the decorative sword then inspected it. When he'd made the order to kneel, she stood then came around the chair to kneel some distance away from the other recruit. Felix stood for this occasion to come stand beside his master before sitting himself so she could place her hand atop his head. As the oath was repeated to them, Lorraine kept her eyes on the man before her. Only when he was through did she bow her head and answer, "I swear."
Already kneeling on one knee and seeing the sword being drawn Roy was impressed by the old sword, as his new commander started the ritual he waited for the woman first to swear her life away. as it came to Roy's turn, he took a deep breath and spoke the words " I swear my life, my arm, my honor and blood to protect these walls with my blade, I swear never to brake this oath ,even when i am at deaths door ,I will make sure my children and my children's children will carry on this oath with there own swords as I do now"
He nodded, choosing not to address the fact that they weren't a slave institution and his children would not be made to serve unless they wished it. Good, he thought, but there was more to be done. "Repeat after me. I do pledge my life to the protection of Lodan and her people. I am the sword that protects her borders, I am the shield that defends the peace. Even when the night is at its darkest, I will be the torch that lights the way. The people of Lodan are my charges, but I take all those who wear the blue and gold as my brothers and sisters. I vow to protect them as I would my own family, knowing that they will do the same for me. All of this I swear until the day I draw my last breath." he said it all, giving pauses so that the two could repeat. He didn't expect anyone to remember all of it otherwise, though it would be one of the first things all recruits were required to memorize. Once spoken it was their vow, and they drated well better take it to heart or end up in one of the dungeons, or worse. A brother had not been executed for treason for some thirty years, he had no desire to have it happen again under his watch.
When both had finished the recitation, he would lay the sword on either side of their heads, in turn, tapping their shoulders with the flat of the blade before telling the two to rise once more as Ensigns of the EIRAL. "Congratulations. Ensign Blackmoore, you are to report to Captain Zeist, head of the Recon Unit. He will be expecting you. Ensign Greenheart, you are to report to Commander Zallow, Swordmaster of the EIRAL. Both of these individuals will ensure that you are unformed, armed, and assigned housing."

After the blade was placed on Roy's shoulder than hers' they were finally permitted to stand as soldiers among the ranks of EIRAL. Felix remained seated at her feet but peered up at her then looked to Skye as though he was unsure of what was going on before standing on all fours. Lorraine stood for a moment in front of the commander her right hand rubbing her left arm as she resisted the urge to shift from one foot to the other. Was she allowed to leave now or did she have to wait for any other word? Instead she would fall back and allow Roy to take the initiative.
