Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Danny nodded and waited. As soon as Caitlin struck Danny swayed away from the strike and flicked his wrist at Caitlin's foil. Not what Caitlin demonstrated, but it's what occurred. It deflected the blow none the less...

She shook her head and lowered her blade. "Don't do that. See the way you leaned back on your back leg, sacrificing all your strength in your parry? If I'd been swinging at you with all my strength and the genuine attempt to maim you, I would have. You can't lean out of the blow like that, or you wont have the power behind your deflection. Lean into it, and cut strait to the point, don't roll the blade in a circle, think of it as a straight line. From point A to point B. Try again," she raised her blade and nodded to Danny to do the same.
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. Calm, muffled, the rest of the world blocked out by the closed door to his cabin, and here they were safe inside. Safe from reality, safe from their own complicated lives. Safe from duty. Safe from context. Just. Safe. --Caitlin

The boy raised his sword once more, and as soon as he aw Caitlin move, he struck at her sword. Not a gentle parry like the woman instructed, but a quick lash to knock the point as far from himself as possible. His cheeks... or what was visible of them, were flushed with embarrassment after her chastisement. The bigger reading on his face was a mixture of determination and... fear?

Caitlin saw the flush and felt a bit bad for putting him on the defensive. "here, lets try something different. When I was young they had me start out with a series of postures. I'll demonstrate them and I'll ask that you practice them for a week, at least an hour a day. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Burn these stances into your muscle memory so that the next time we work on strikes, you can move without having to think about every little part. This will improve your form as well. Better to go at it slow and develop good habits than form bad ones and have to break them later."
She demonstrated 4 different positions and listed the names of each as she hit them. "Those are the first four, their are 8 basic, some argue 9, but lets start with these four for now."

"Ya sure learnin' these won' make it 'aharder later on when we're 'perimentin' wit' diff'ren' blades?" Danny mirrored Caitlin with each pose even as he spoke and began cycling through them slowly, correcting his many mistakes as he noticed them with each pose.

she grinned at him cheekily and felt a momentary need to boast. "If it was, do you think I'd still be queen among rogues? I've gone up against many sorts of blades, and carried different sorts myself, but the technique is a step above what a lot of meat cleavers are swinging at their foes these days. proper training is invaluable."

Danny nodded as he kept moving through the forms she'd given. "I wanna try that' thrust thing 'gains ya one more time, if ya down' mind?" Dsanny had a little surprise in mind and the glint of mischief in his eyes was a near dead give away to anyone paying any sort of attention. That, and he was moving through his forms faster now. There were still mistakes, but already far fewer than one might expect from a complete novice.

Caitlin saw the spot of mischief, it was no surprise, they all got that look when they first started out. They all thought they were oh so clever and oh so agile. Everybody was a quick learner in his or her own mind.
"Slow down, your body wont remember what it doesn't feel. You need the posture to burn into your muscles for it to last."

Danny forced himself to relax. Better to try that after he actually knew what he was doing... He slowed down his stances and began again. She was right... he needed the basics the most. "So wha' now? Jus' keep practicin' these?" Danny focused on his stances as he spoke.

She nodded, and circled him, nudging a fraction here and there to get him centered the way that would benefit him most. "You don't have to stay up here to practice unless you want to, you're more than welcome to, I know the view is fantastic and something about the wild breeze in your hair that makes everything better; but if you prefer to practice alone someplace I understand. Keep at this a week, an hour minimum a day, and then come back to me - we'll return to the strikes then."
