Edelweiss Fjäril You are more than welcome to join! As well as anyone else wanting to pitch in!
The leaves had already started their yearly turn of color by the time Elaine really got to look at them with the kind of appreciation such beauty deserved. Autumn had set in heavy on Lodan and between the light chill in the air and the slowly shortening days she'd found herself staring out her window with the curtains drawn back instead of pulled tight. Perhaps it was the weather that started pulling her out into the city again. Who can deny a pleasant evening in the cool breeze that smells of apples and harvest under the usual musk? The black glass eyes of the doe on her beside table watched as the days went by and Elaine quit occupying herself with anything mindless to dull the ache on her heart. A sunrise to sunset excuse to hide to herself away was slowly dissolving to the ever insistent press of curiosity that lingered where it hadn't before. With her hands full painting magic she began to wonder...
This led to a quiet morning where Elaine got up early and sleepily waddled into her kitchen to set her kettle on with a yawn. She hadn't been up this early in a few weeks and Cas absolutely agrees as he comes walking in with her on one of those slow stretches to wiggle his stiff limbs into working. They share a look as she waits for the kettle to boil and she snorts, "Don't complain. We're going for a walk." Cas seemed far more excited for the day after that magical word and they go about the routine. She got dressed in a warm long sleeved shirt and made sure to layer up some with a vest against her most hated adversary, the cold. It wouldn't warm up to something comfortable until the sun rose but she was prepared to face that fact. Castiel earned himself a short scarf around his neck that matches, the ends tucked neatly into his collar so he couldn't trip on them. By that time a whistle cut through the house she is ready to run.
Elaine walked through the streets of her city with Cas on her heels and the enjoyment from the sun warming her back as they stopped by the bakery for some donuts and biscuits to nibble on their way as breakfast. The streets soon giving way to yellowing grass and scattered leaves that color the ground in puddles of red, orange, and gold. She was hoping there would be a nice layer of crunch on the ground for what she had in mind. They walk along the edge of the forest and dip into the woods where Cas bounds a few feet ahead sniffing at every rock and gnarled root he can see with interest. She laughs and finds a clearing with a cluster of large, flat rocks off to the right that she set their goodies on while her loyal hound inspected every inch of the clearing, huffing through layers of leaves he stirred up happily prancing about. But Elaine has other ideas. She gave a tug at her fingers and pulled her gloves off to tuck them into her belt. Then she slides her coat off her shoulders and lays it beside the donuts to walk out into the center of the clearing with a stretch of her hands above her head.
When she drops them back down a faintly green light colors her palms and she focused on the leaves at her feet before they rise like they're being lifted by a breeze, the sound they make as they swirl over the ground in front of her makes the feline laugh to herself. She flurries the spot around her with a spin on her feet and Cas perks in the background at the motion. Bouncing on his paws in a happy step before galloping over to run through her practice and scatter them out behind him as Elaine drops her hands and arches her brow after him with amusement. She then starts to kick leaves up into a pile, bending to move them with her hands but stopping herself to lean back and look at her hands again. The thought crosses her mind and soon she's running around the pile she's made playfully flinging leaves at Castiel on the other side with a flick of green aura. Cas hops about on his back legs barking at the scattering of color falling to the ground around him while Elaine laughs and happily throws a handful into the air to spin where she is and grin as they came fluttering down, catching all in her hair and off her clothes before she yelps and dodges the lunge Cas made for her legs with a bounding run her direction. The two running around the pile until Elaine drops out of view in a flash of color. A mouse darting into the mass as Cas stopped and stood sharp at attention, ears starkly forward, his excitement palpable when he drops into a bow and huffs at the edge of leaves before curiously slowing to sniff with more dedication.
"Boo!" Elaine suddenly reappeared in an explosion of color as she sits up from the depths of the mountain of leaves sending her dog skittering away only to return with barks that are clearly him demanding her to explain herself! How dare she! She laughs as he met her with licks and happy tail wags despite his complaints.
