Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Elaine pondered the ideas of drawing different magics and found herself wondering how to perfectly depict aeromancy. Breathing underwater might be something interesting to sketch... Lasair interrupted her thoughts with a very suggestive comment that made give a roll of her eyes and a subtle shake of her head. He was feeling extra frisky with his flirts today. Fair enough.
"My bedroom is very private." She shot back with an even amount of her own quip. Casting him a glance that starred some tauntingly wiggled eyebrows before she settled her gaze back on the road. "It's attached to the entire upstairs of my own floor that I don't have to share with anyone." She really shouldn't encourage him, he'd only grow more amused and he'd get used to the pampering of her catering his little suggestive banters. He was gonna get the one pass, and the comment was also functional beyond the suggestive point she made it out to be. She kept all her paints and art supplies in the rented large upstairs at the Curio she refurbished into a bedroom and living space. It had excellent privacy and Archie didn't care what Elaine did up there, she paid for it and as far as he was concerned the space was hers.

Grinning, Lasair took a half step closer to her. Just enough of a movement for him to lean into her slightly. "Perhaps you won't mind sharing it with me then, hm? It sounds lonely having an entire floor to yourself. I'm sure Cas makes good company though." Flirting aside, it did make for a good setting for them to work together in. He could cast most magical spells within the closed walls of the house and he shouldn't have too much trouble holding the magic long enough for her to capture the imagery. It would work well, provided that she didn't need to see any of the spells with a bit of a… grander scale. Mentally nodding, he felt like it could really work.
"In case you need to see any of the spells with a bit of a… range, we could always visit one of the fields outside of the town. Nobody watched people out there. Besides, you always get excited to go on our little field trips. Are you familiar with the range of what each spell can do? I might not be personally trained in everything, but I do know quite a bit." He gave a more wholesome smile, excited to share talk about magic. It was his favorite subject after all.

She nudged him back up to standing with a roll of her shoulder and joked, "Cas is the fluffiest breathing pillow I've ever owned." Elaine figured she could get the magic she knew out of the way first, at least shapeshifting and projection. Those would be relatively easy to portray as she thought about it. Ranged attacks though, would prove a little more complex as Lasair mentioned. "I do indeed love our field trips," She chuckled before adding, "I know the ranges on the magic I can do, but I'm not that schooled in pyromancy or the majority of what you can do. I've seen several magics in action from various people, like gating, so I won't have a problem with that one." She'd seen gating by both Lasair and Edelweiss, Edelweiss had also once before performed an act of projection that still confused Elaine to this day. When you find eleven different figures of your boss it tends to make you a little dizzy. Despite this, Elaine should have no trouble unless Lasair asked for them to be painted a certain way. She would do her best to appease his mages core. She looked up at store signs as they passed them on the hunt for the books Lasair was searching for. If he wasn't in a big hurry back after they got their shopping done they could stop by the Curio and relax a bit before he had to tote his books and ink back to wherever he lived.

"I think it would be lovely, honestly. I do appreciate you being so kind and willing to work on it with me." Lasair was honestly excited for the prospect and eager to get started on it. But, that would come in time. At the present, she had a bag full of art supplies and he intended to pick up a hefty quantity of books soon. He felt happily touched that she looked up to him as a sort of magical expert; it was honestly what he wanted to be and what he was fighting for because it mattered to him so much.
As they continued to walk, his eyes caught the sign on a building up ahead. It was a worn down sign with a picture of an open book on it, one half of the pages blank, and the other side with a pen pressed to it and a line of ink being left behind. "This is where I was going to buy my books from," he stated plainly. "I suppose that means I should enjoy the rest of my time without the encumbrance, at least for this little bit." He stood up a bit straighter and rolled his neck, flexing his shoulders in the process. The ink in the larger bottle swished around as he moved, but the seal keeping it from leaking never broke or cracked. He shot a small glance towards Elaine, smiling at her. He wondered if she ever took empty pages and filled them with words like he did.

"Anytime Lassy." Elaine hummed sweetly, more than delighted to help since it involved two of her favorite things. As he pointed out the store she looked up at the weathered and fraying sign and wondered how long it had been there. Noting that it sounded like Lasair intended to take home enough books to start a small library as she loosely shifted her weight to one side and adjusted the bag she held. He really shouldn't try to carry that much home by himself. He wasn't old or anything but it was better to caution against overdoing oneself, which she had the suspicion that he was a repeat offender. As he smiled down at her she chewed her bottom lip briefly in thought and then gazed down into the meager space she had in her bag. It would be exceptionally useless. However...
Her eyes brightened as an idea struck her, turning herself towards Lasair to share. "If you'll go ahead and buy your books and come back to the Curio with me I can give you a bag for you to take them home." It would be much easier to go the short distance carrying them and then he would have a lovely, deep satchel to pack as many as he could in. It would save him the trouble and potentially some backaches. "As long as you're alright with that? You could keep the bag and bring it next time you have to get books." The feline grinned at her little solution though she knew if Lasair would rather not she'd just bring the bag to him next time they saw each other.

Lasair paused in his step towards the door. Elaine looked positively delighted with her idea, but behind the words Lasair could get the faint sense that she didn't want to part from his company. At least not yet. He became aware of the small presence of something in his inner coat pocket; a folded up cloth bag that he had been saving to use for a certain purpose. His eyes looked up to the door of the shop again before sneaking another glace at Elaine. Perhaps it would be best to ignore the object in his coat. "That sounds like a great idea," he smiled. "I wasn't sure how many books I would be getting and thought that I could get away without needing one." His words flowed seamlessly as he continued, pausing to hold the door open for her. "Borrowing a bag from you would be greatly appreciated."
Once inside the shop, the smell of books greeted their senses. A good portion of the shop was simply a book store that sold written books. Tomes that told stories of other lands, explained the concepts of physics, or even detailed how to build houses. It was an informative shop that sold useful books; not the fantasy laced ones of creative writers. And as a shop that valued the preservation of knowledge, the shopkeeper was one of the few people that would make and sell blank books for a reasonable price. He was an older man that was missing a handful of teeth, but his eyes always had a knowing look to them and his smile was always true. Lasair strolled past the shelves of written word, his eyes hardly glancing at them as he walked to a back corner of the shop. There he found a bookshelf filled with books, all of their spines void of words. He became looking at them intently, picking out a few and making a small pile on the ground next to him.

She smiled and hurried to enter the door he'd opened for her. She took a moment after entering to get her bearings of the store, eyes flicking over the shelves and the spines of the books whose titles she could barely make out from where she was. Lasair took off on his own with purpose so he clearly knew what he needed which left her to roam as she pleased. Elaine smiled at the shopkeep kindly and set her bag down by the door so she could wander unburdened. Her feet led her to a few steps down a row of books closest to the door so she could keep an eye on her things while she read down the spines of the books lined up neatly on the shelves. The smell of leather and paper made her smile softly in remembrance of her parent's shop. She really ought to go visit this week, her mother was supposed to make her a cake to take home. Maybe she could find a way to tell Lasair when she got it so she could share. She slipped out of the first row to snoop and see in the second as Lasair piled his selections up. Her green gaze watching him pick and choose from time to time. Elaine smirked as she leaned around to view Lasair again, "Taking everything you see Lassy?" If he turned around she'd stick her tongue out at him with a playful snicker.

His focus was momentarily broken by her words and he turned to glance at her, shaking his head and suppressing a small laugh at she stuck her tongue out at him. "Perhaps," he answered softly, reaching up to grab another book. "My budget allows for… eight? Or so books. I'm just trying to pick the ones with a binding that I think will fit in to the growing shelf I have at home. But honestly, all of them would fit so it makes deciding rather difficult." After staring at the books for a bit longer, he made his final selections and picked the stack up carefully to set it on the counter. The shopkeeper nodded to Lasair, apparently having recognized him, but didn't ask about what Las could be writing or why. Instead they simply went through the exchange of money for goods with few words, and in a short moment, Las was ready to leave. He ended up buying nine, unable to decide between the last two he had considered.
Holding the pile of books in his arms, he rested his chin on the top of them and looked to Elaine with a lifted eyebrow. "I'll follow you there. I should pay more attention to balancing rather than directions right now." If she stepped forward to take a few from him, Lasair wouldn't stop her. But if not, he would trek forward without the smallest peep of a complaint. He was a stubborn man when he wanted to be.

Elaine walked to the door to pick up her bag as he went to the counter to pay. Feeling it crinkle slightly under her fingers and feeling the glass jars clink against one another softly. She was excited to take them home and set them up on the dresser. As Lasair spoke she turned around and then leaned back a little to see Lasair properly over his stack with a laugh, "Give me a few, you'll never make it if you can't see your feet." As much as she knew he would carry them all proudly she didn't feel the need for him to have to do that. She neatly took the top two, unfortunately all she could fit in the top of her bag, and turned towards the door. Pushing on it with her back on the way out and holding it open with her foot for him to pass through and as he said she took the lead to guide them back to the Curio. "Cas will be so excited to see you." She mused happily as they walked. Her dog was always somewhat happy to see her friends, if he got more than a sniff Cas really liked him.

Lasair relented and allowed her to assist him in sharing the burden that was his purchase. It was a shame really, he certainly could have managed to carry them all (or even admit that he has a bag folded neatly and tucked away) but instead, he was willing to brace tired arms and more time with a friend. The walk back to her place was relatively unremarkable as they chatted lightly. Lasair was both nervous and happy to see her dog again. Mostly nervous. Still, when they finally reached the destination, he was a bit relieved to be able to let go of his would-be tomes.
Scouring his mind for something, anything to say really, the tired ander gave up and simply spoke "It's been a while since I last visited." He wanted to say more, to say something that would capture her attention and let them both be drawn into a deep conversation. And yet he could not think of anything. Surely there was more to discuss with her, surely he had something of meaning to say. But instead, his mind left him with simple thoughts of 'arms tired, dog scary.' If only they could be a smidge more useful.

Elaine was just as happy with the small talk as she was when they were ready to wear each other's ears out with stories and debates. She led him inside and found Archie was nowhere to be seen at the present time as she bounced up the steps. Oh well, he must have gone out for something. "It has been a long while." Elaine agreed, she would have to go see if there were any mysterious books downstairs for him today. From the top of the stairs, her home consisted of a hallway, the kitchen is the first door on the right at the top of the landing. It is connected to the living space by a large open doorframe. It appears that the living space has a second door at the far end of the hall, making a large circle. On the left is two closed doors, the one closest to them was a small spare room, from the paint on the door handle Elaine used it to keep her supplies in. The other door at the very end of the hall was her room. She'd painted the door with a mural of the citie's skyline. A beautiful sunset beaming at him on the wood. They headed for the kitchen first, the small table that made for a dining table could hold their things. Her house was neat, albeit with a few sketched papers laying about wherever they pleased. It was quite quaint and seemed to be a nice place for the young woman.
However, there was something else to address before the true beauty of the space could be enjoyed. Once she got to the top landing there was a sudden thud and rush of paws on the wooden floor as Cas slid out into the hallway scrabbling to come and greet her as she and Lasair sat their things down. "Hey, Cas!" She crouched down and met the large, furry mutt with a loving bundle of nose kisses and squishy face petting. Of course, she was making adorable coos to the dog as she absolutely spoiled him with smothering affection because that's what you did to your baby. After one final, grand face smush she stood up and leaned out of his way so he could see Lassy. "Our friend is here! Go say hello."
Cas immediately paused and stared at Lasair, the same human he'd seen before who looked kind of like his stuffed lizard. Although, he might not be as chewable. Elaine knew Lasair wasn't the best with animals but she kept a close distance as Cas stepped up to him to sniff him out. The feline cut Lasair a smirk in amusement as the dog would sniff, snort a little, and continue sniffing. He started at Lasair's shoes and worked his way up the side, making it to his hand and feeling satisfied he gave it a rough lick and then bounced off back towards Elaine to circle around her feet. She pulled her gloves off to give him a wonderful scratch fest down his back, "Such a good boy you are for not eating my favorite friend!" Cas was incredibly well trained and it showed as he promptly sat down at her feet while she straightened up to start to take her things out of her bags to be put away. "Please, make yourself comfortable. I'm going to put these up quickly and I'll dig that bag out for you. You're also free to follow me around." She chuckled, in case Cas made him too nervous. The canine would bother him as long as Elaine told him not to. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

The inspection from the dog had Lasair frozen in place for the moment as the ander felt as though he could do nothing but be subjected to the canine's appraisal. A simple lick was all he received in verdict, which evidently was a good sign as the dog was gone in a flash after that. Lasair found himself able to breath again, thankfully. He stepped forward then to set his books down on the table, taking a moment to stretch his strained muscles and squeeze a pop or two from them. His joints were already thankful for the relief and lack of stress. "Water please," he spoke in answer to the question, his pulse finally relaxing enough for him to think a bit more clearly.
The household was quite lovely he felt. Small, but not so much so as to feel cramped, but also just big enough to fit one or two people comfortably. It reminded him a lot of the upstairs to the house he grew up in, yet this one were different in many ways. It still had a familiar homey feeling that he couldn't quite place, maybe it was in the wood of the walls or the creaking of the floor. Either way, it did help him feel a bit more at ease. While Elaine busied herself with shuffling around to put things away, Lasair pulled a conversation from his mind. "Do you have any art pieces to share at the moment? Or would you rather discuss what inspirations you will need for the works of the future?" He wore a light smile, eager to answer any questions she might have about the magical artwork series they had so quickly planned together.

As he requested water Elaine sat down whatever was in her hands to go filter through her cabinets for her glasses and down one came. She filled it with a pitcher of water she kept on the counter. "There you are." She handed it to Lasair in passing with a smile as she went back to removing bottles from the back, the array of colors glistening in their glasses on the table. She was looking at labels in the light of her open windows at first until he asked about her artwork. His adorable eagerness made her laugh softly. "Grab a small handful of paint if you would and follow me." Elaine beckoned before she filled her arms again and walked out across the hallway to the door covered in paint. She pushed it open and inside were piled canvases laying about, some stacked against the wall while clean ones were carefully placed by the door for ease of access. She walked through the fairly small space and pulled up the curtains over a window on the far end. Natural light filling the storage space and lighting up the paintings she'd already done.
"You can look through them while I put these paints up. If you like any style or theme, in particular, let me know. I think we can get started on at least one new piece today. If you're willing to surprise me with more magic." She hummed grinning setting up the ones she carried and taking whichever he might've brought with him. Cas trotting himself down the hallway to go find something that interested him to keep himself busy. Perhaps it would be another nap. "Everything in here are paintings and things I intend to sell...." Elaine frowned at a wash of sadness but shook it off. "Whenever I get around to it I suppose."

The water was a welcomed sensation; it took a good portion of the edge off of having had to interact with the dog so closely. After enjoying a couple of long drinks, he set the glass down to follow her instructions. Grab some paint jars and follow her down the hall. As he entered the room his eyes widened with wonder at all the artwork haphazardly spread across the area. Different colors were lit up by the natural light all showing pictures and messages unique from one another. He took his time appreciating each on in turn, his mind lost in the brush strokes of each piece of artwork.
"What kind of magic haven't I shared?" he asked himself as much as her. The concept of surprise magic was a curious one, but he had to rack his brain hard to try and come up with just one more trick. His mind was lost in the focus of the task at hand and he didn't dwell on her comment of wanting to sell her work. She'd find buyers, he was certain of that. In the mean time, he couldn't decide what style would be most fitting either. Perhaps the one with the most defined lines? He honestly wasn't sure.
Post by Elaine Anncroft on Apr 11, 2019 23:26:21 GMT
She lined up her paints and slid each one into place with little readjustments here and there as Lasair looked around. he seemed enamored by the artwork which surprised her. Surely in his travels, he'd seen works better than what she kept stashed in this closet. She laughed softly as he asked aloud what magic he hadn't shared with her. There was a slightly lewd remark to that that flashed across her head but she swatted it away and turned to lean back against her shelves gently. "I'm sure there's something you can come up with, or you can just amaze me with things I already know." She opened her hands wide before clasping them in front of her, she was open to anything he wanted to show her. Make flame dance to make her laugh? Perhaps an illusion that she could compare with. Elaine then motioned to the row of paintings he was nearby, "Which one do you like best?"
