Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"Well, first and foremost - the necessity of food to live, money to get food, and work to get money. As happens to anybody, I suppose." The man shrugged.
"Then a friend once pointed me the large and highly unattended market potential of Lodan people who seek relief of their troubles - be they internal or external. And so, here we are."

Chuckling, Zeara spoke, “Very frank, are you? I can appreciate that. Indeed, there is quite a market for these sort of thing, of which is quite unattended.” Reading the label to one of the bottles, she continued, “Where do you get your wares? Specifically the herbal kind?”

"I tend to grow and treat them myself, or at least one brand of it whenever affordable; helps to have a reference and guarantee of quality, you see." He gestured with on open palm towards bottles that were still left on the right, in specific those he'd placed on the front row.
"Although admitedly sometimes that's not affordable - and when it's not, I have to either buy from other businesses around or import it, and the source varies."

Nodding, Zeara placed the bottle down, her auburn eyes glancing briefly to one wall and the pictures that adorned it. “My companion here used to grow it himself. Perhaps you two can chat about that sometime.” Not moving her head, she glanced at another wall, and the photographs it held. “Do you practice photography?”

"Oh? That'd be nice, certainly. Always interesting to hear new opinions and tips on 'botany'." William assented with a chuckle, turning to look at the woman's companion and see what he thought of the suggestion himself, although he did turn most of his attention back to the madam at her next question - both because she seemed to be in charge of any purchases, but and also because she'd been handling most of her side of the conversation and ignoring a customer as they speak wasould a sure way to make his business die.
And ignoring a lady would be bad manners too, there was that as well.
"I do. It's a side-business, mostly a hobby, I admit; not many people have the resources to spare on pictures, but I've always had a liking for capturing interesting sights in film."

Wallace was met by no reaction by Sayvahn as he had returned to staring at the ground. Though, his greens eyes did waver up to see the photographs that Zeara had mentioned. But he, too, held his body still— not moving his head but only his eyes. “When one has a business, they shouldn’t call it a hobby. You sell yourself short, Wallace.” Placing the bottle down, Zeara approached one wall and inspected its picture more closely. Yet, she angled herself in such a way that although she was looking at the picture, she could still see Wallace quite clearly too. “Tell me, Wallace, what is your feeling on Anders? Do you hate them? Like them? Feel nothing?” Zeara asked, her eyes scanning the figures in the photograph.

It was difficult to gauge anything about a person, be they a customer or not, when they barely (if at all) even glance at you. But then, the apothecary pondered, maybe that was who this woman's companion was; someone who's either too closed, shy or wary to be read. Or the 'skittish issue' they'd come seeking his help to fix is making him too anxious to interact much. Or then his problem was the pole opposite of what had been requested and he should have fetched something to combat apathy rather than histery. Or maybe the blond man was just tired. It was hard to tell sometimes, even in his business.
For the time being, William focused his attention back to Zeara.
"Your companion is one, is he not? And a Feline, to be more specific; human eyes don't glow." He asked back at her questioning to what he felt about anders, a bit of a curious expression on his face, but not really judgemental. "I suppose I'm a bit jealous, seeing in the dark would be very convenient in my work (mainly the photography part), but then I'd just have different problems instead of them disappearing. Anyway, don't worry, I won't kick you out. Many of those who come here are anders. Quite a few places refuse them, though they get sick as any; it's a rather annoying social issue if you ask me, even if it grants me extra customers."

With Wallace’s answer, Zeara turned to him— an amused smile forming on her face. “Very perceptive,” she mused, stepping away from the photograph and back toward Wallace. “However, he is not the only Ander in the room.” For the first time, Zeara met Wallace’s eyes, her smile still lofting on her lips. Although her eyes appeared dark brown, maybe hazel, with one blink they brightened to a flaming amber— to that of a feline ander. Her gaze did not waver as she spoke to him, “I’m glad you are sensible, Wallace. You do not disappoint.” Sayvahn had glanced up, cautious at how his identity had been revealed so quickly. He itched at his arm, shoulders slumped somewhat as if trying to hide himself. Zeara noted the action but did not look away from Wallace. “Sayvahn,” she ordered, as if the name itself was a command. Immediately Sayvahn paused, slowly removing his hand from his arm and instead to his side. Glancing at Zeara, he looked between her and the shopkeeper, ever silent and ever still cautious. “We will purchase the fresh and dried. One of each variety. My companion will chose what he likes, and from there we will stick with one style and type. However, before we continue any further— I have another business proposition.” Gesturing toward the photograph-decorated wall, she continued, “I too, am found of interesting sights. Tell me, how familiar are you with magic?” Her smile widened. “And have you ever photographed it?”

The other man's shrinking demeanor (added to Zeara's commanding tone to him) made the theory about him being 'too finnicky to socially interact' be the most probable one, and Wallace silently stashed the information in the corner of his mind for if needed be later.
Then there was the woman's eyecolor changing display. "Well now that's interesting..." Truly, and his intrigued look back at her matched it well. Was that Deceit? Or something else? Either way he'd been asked a question, and it was a matter of good manners to respond.
"Hmm... Somewhat." He said after pondering for a second, moving to place the customers' chosen merchandise within paper bags, to be promptly held out to them after receiving the money. "I know of what customers and friends mention or are willing to show. However I possess no magic of my own, and no, I have never photographed magic. What pictures of it do you have in mind?"

Amusement never left Zeara’s face. Indeed, Wallace’s awestruck nature was only natural, as he was human. Reaching for her purse, Zeara withdrew her wallet. When the total was to be given, she would take out the money. Until then, “Portraiture. Full body, maybe close up depending on the spell.” Giving Sayvahn her wallet, she spent a moment removing her glove. The black material steadily was pulled, revealing long pristine nails against lightly tanned skin. “For the first set of images, however, I would like to see how this appears,” on cue, orange and green light flickered around her hand, turning blue on its edges as it dissipated into the air. “Both in normal lighting, and darker. After that, well, we discuss the next project,” she stated, letting the magic retract as she put on her glove.

"...I'll see what I can do." The apothecary pondered, between agreement and caution as he watched the colorful aura display wavering around the woman's hand.
"Experience tells me that technology doesn't fare very well in close presence of magic, and my photography equipment is delicate," He explained, although she might already know that as it was somewhat common knowledge: anders break tech. Being more specific, their magic - or whatever energy they harness and use to create magic - damaged tech through its mere presence in the proximities. And as much as magic did fascinate him, he was still aware cameras were something expensive besides being relatively hard to find for sale, and he wasn't well-off enough to send it to get a magic resistence treatment nor to buy a new set on the fly if his current one broke. "so I'm not sure how much of a 'close up' would be possible. But I'll see what I can do. Fullbody portraits should be possible anyway."

“If you do not have a long range lens, I will get one for you. I’m willing to go to certain lengths, as this is not only for interest but also for scientific reasons, you see,” Zeara explained. “Distance should prevent any ill effects, but we shall do tests before hand with smaller mechanisms to ensure nothing befalls your… “delicate” equipment.” With Zeara’s tone around the word delicate, Sayvahn laughed. He eyed the man steadily as if trying to judge if the photography equipment was not the only “delicate” thing. Although that intention was not meant by Zeara, it still amused him. In response, Zeara closed her eyes for a moment, as if to clear a migraine. Yet, she said nothing of the affair.

"...." Wallace's brain bluescreened for the following couple seconds, until he could find his voice again.
"...Madam, I apologise if this is an indiscreet question, but how much money are you willing to expend on this project?" Because while she was, in fact, right about that attaining a lens for his camera that could work from a distance would certainly solve the risks of his photography equipment breaking due to excessive magic exposure... Cameras, including their parts and everything related to them tended to cost a considerable (if not cringe-worthy) amount of money. So from the looks of it, either this woman new how to make camera lenses, had much more money at her disposition than she and her companion (and the vast majority of Wallace's customers) seemed to have, or in case not was willing to at least sell or mortgage some belongings to get him that lens... or she simply did not know how much it would cost her. And he had to make sure it was not that last option.

The question along with the reaction made Sayvahn chuckle. Yet, he tried to hide it as Zeara looked to him to hush. He only succeeded partially as he started at the ground off to the side, the back of his hand hiding the rest of his smile. If she was amused, she did not express it. “Indiscreet questions are not minded. I prefer cutting to the chase anyhow. To answer your question, quite a bit. I rather not pay for multiple replacements, mind you— thus I ask for tests with smaller and weaker instruments first, but overall— I see a business opportunities with our “experimentation” that I assure you will make up for the costs at some point in the future.”

"Very well, then." The apothecary nodded. As long as his customers know what they're getting into, enough to not allow complaints about his work or merchandise at a later date, he didn't particularly care. That was applicable in the same way for both his photography and herbal goods - they genuinely had uses in cataloging, research and medicine and therefore were included into what he worked with, but if the customers in question wished to repurpose those for other personal uses then so be it.
"For when would you like to schedule the first picture appointments?"
