Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
During this time, Amon had mostly been still and asleep.
"Mostly" being the key word, as Amon stirred a little, as if waking from a dream.
Only to quickly get up as if he just had a nightmare.
"Edel?" he called out, panic rising a bit. Where was she? Where'd she go? How long was he out?
...wait...
Where was she? She had gone out.
Where'd she go? To his place to pick up some things.
How long was he out? He looked at a clock. Not all that long.
"Okay...It's okay..." he muttered to himself, breathing hard and trying to calm down.
"Trying" being the key word.

Edelweiss didn't have any issues on the way back. Sure, this was the first time she was entering a public space (the building's front lobby) in daylight hours while carrying a detached limb in a suitcase, but oh well; nobody could arrest her for it and therefore there was no need to hide it either.
Upstairs she goes, open door, close door, nothing unusual---
"Edel?" She heard the voice calling out to her with a clear tint of panic in its tone, and that made her rush back to the bedroom.
"What happened?" She left the case on a chair and approached the bed to check on Amon. He was visibly breathing really hard, she didn't need Health to notice that. "What's wrong?"

"Oh...you're safe..." Amon said, releasing a sigh of relief as he relaxed a little.
Though the crushing realization of his own situation kept him a little tense.
"...Um...did everything...go okay...?" he asked, a little hesitant.

"...Yes?..." She blinked at that slow statement that she was safe. She had promised she'd be just fine and not going to be doing anything dangerous while just going to fetch his belongings, hadn't she? What had happened to him while she was out? She quickly opened the gate again to retrieve his requested things (and the adorable sappy notes) and placed them on the nightstand - notebook atop suitcase atop notes - and then her hand reached out to touch his forehead again, searching for fevers.
There was one, yes, though weak. The previous medication was doing it's job still, just being slow to fully kick in it seemed. She couldn't perceive anything else off. "Did you have a bad dream?"

"...I...I don't know..." Amon sighed, rubbing his temples with his left hand.
"...Am I...a bad person...?" he asked quietly. "...What else have I done to cause you pain...?"

"........" She took a second in silence to process the questions, not really sure where they were coming from (and if it was from a nightmare she didn't know what kind would usher those either). But she also figured she wouldn't find out without asking, and that being so...
"To answer that," She moved to sit on the mattress next to him. "I'd need to know what you are referring to first."

Amon stared at the sheets, collecting his thoughts.
"...In my dream, you had gone out for a mission..." he begun. "You were supposed to investigate reports of kidnappings happening in the Hovel and their potential ties to a trafficking ring. If it was small, you'd take them out yourself, but if it was too big, then you'd go and get help...you were able to trail one of the suspects to their hideout...but then..." he paused. "...Part-way through...you got caught...and...they..."
He explained every graphic detail, the images of the tortures that Edel was put through was fresh and vivid in his eyes.
"...And I didn't know...in fact, the only reason why I ended up in the same place was because another section of that gang was responsible for stealing tech to resell on the black market or use for themselves, and they made the mistake of kidnapping Abby..." Amon continued. "...Abe and I ended up simply raiding the place to retrieve her...after the dust settled, I happened upon the room they were keeping you and..." he paused again, slowly becoming more distraught. "...I attacked the guy next to the door, but before I could get to the guy holding the remote to your torture device...the guy I attacked...turned into my dad...my biological dad...Louis...and he turned and pointed at you and...suddenly, I was the one holding the remote...and..."
Amon buried his face in his hands, the sight of hope and relief changing to pure terror and despair clear in his mind. "...I awoke before I could use any of the devices...but that wasn't the worst part: I enjoyed it. I was initially disappointed when I woke up. I guess my dad was right..." he chuckled, turning to look at Edel, his eye watering as he gave her a sad smile. "I inherited his sadistic streak...I am his son after all..."

A dream. Pain he'd caused her in just a dream, caused him to look that pained. There was so much that was there, and for so long either left ignored or unseen, and he'd picked just what wasn't even real - or maybe his subconscious picked it in his stead, who knows. Edelweiss felt something she couldn't name welling up inside her chest, slamming against the barrier of layers upon layers that kept in smothered down throught the months, and she had to force herself to gulp it down again. It didn't want to stay down.
"I already knew." Some words are better left unspoken, because they do nothing but hurt people. She wished she could un-say them. But she couldn't, just like she couldn't detain the next ones coming either. "I tried to tell you before. You dismissed it; said you had 'bigger priorities'." She wanted to slap herself dead. If she had a second body, she'd have done it. "And those 'priorities' weren't to just survive, or protect anyone," Shut up. "just having fun with murder." Shut up, stupid ginger brain. "It was terrifying..." Shut up shut up shutup.
But it was too late, the dam was already broken. "Terrifying to look at you, walking and breathing, and still not know if you were alive somewhere in there. To sleep with the thought and wake up wondering every morning. But you are. I'm so, so glad you are." If anyone asked at which point she had leaned her forehead on his, or since when she was cupping his cheeks in her palms, she wouldn't be sure. Her eyes were closed afterall. And her own cheeks were turning wet. "Because it bothers you. That's a difference between you and your father. You have bad emotions (I think everyone does), but you can also acknowledge they're bad and police them."

Amon made a small attempt to embrace Edel in return, but couldn't bring himself to do it.
"...Why didn't you try again..." he asked. "...If I was that terrifying...why not try again...?"

"I did." She sighed. "Then you made a point on ranting to Sayvahn how I'd been 'reaming at you' over and over. And I didn't want to feel like that again." It just didn't work, and she wasn't a masochist. From that it had been clear to her he either didn't understand what she was saying, or understood but didn't care - and she didn't know which option would be worse. So afterwards that she had just... gave up on being the one talking. It was already painful enough to keep it in mind whether she wanted it or not, without adding the reactions on top of it.

"...I didn't mean it like that...at the time...I thought that everything was okay...I just wanted Sayvahn to just shut up..." he sighed, closing his eyes.
"...Times like these I wonder why you haven't given up on me..." he said with a dry chuckle. "...Or if you ever think being with me was a mistake...or why you even accepted going out with me in the first place..."

"........." For a second, she didn't know what to say. Did he really think she would be complaining even when everything was alright? Did she really seem that whiny of a person?
...No. It didn't matter anymore, did it? It really didn't. They had all been facing different issues at the time; no surprise that there was some severe miscommunication going on. She let out a breath she didn't even notice she'd been holding.
"I don't like whinning for little things. If there's something I mention, it's because it's important... Just like it's important when you talk to me too." As for the rest of what he said... "Maybe I'm stubborn. And/or a little bit crazy too, I had warned you of that before we started dating. ...But no, I never thought of us as a mistake. And" Now it was her turn to chuckle, though rather than dry it was just light and a little bit awkward. "if you asked me why I love you (present time) the answer would be a bit different, but back then... You dared to say you loved me, when not even myself could... Besides, you were being absurdly adorable and I just melted." Even the memory was already enough to tint her cheeks with a faint tint of pink. Just the faintest tint though.
That felt so long ago...when he had to work up the courage to reveal his secret crush...
"...And what is the answer now...?" Amon asked quietly.
Was she willing to accept that deep down, he had these dark tendencies...?

"Well, you have quite a few sweet qualities on your side. Gentleness is one. I'm pretty sure I mentioned before, that you're kinder than give yourself credit for (that's something that comes from choices, people pick whether they'll be gentle or cruel on a minute basis for everything they do, and I don't think a two-years-worth balance can be tipped off in a single horrid night). Then there's thoughtfulness, loyalty, respect. Having a darker side doesn't mean the lighter one doesn't exist. Abby was ever so kind to show me proof of that in that sweet little pile of poems you had hidden in your backroom." No shame in admitting that last part. At all. Hurray for the sappy poems, that by the way are still neatly piled under Amon's suitcase on the nightstand.
"And questionable decisions aside, you're incredibly crafty - creativity and versatility are always a plus."

He brought her into a quick and tight embrace, bringing her in close, as if she could leave at any moment.
"...I'm sorry..." he whispered, tears freely flowing now. "...For putting you through all of this..."
She still loved him. And he still loved her.
"...I don't care...I don't care if you think it's a little whine or complaint....I'll listen to all of your problems...I'll be there for you...more than ever, so please be here for me..."
It was as if some weight he was never fully aware of was being lifted; the clouds of his mind becoming more clear.
He continued to hold her for a while longer, rocking gently back and forward, before speaking up again.
"...I'll try to go back to being the sweet man you knew before...I might have more spice than you remembered, but I'll try," he said with a light chuckle. "...As for loving yourself...I think we can agree that I can cover for the both of us, based on those poem-"
He paused.
Poems?
He loosened his grip a little, enough to properly face Edel.
"...Could you...say that again...the part about the poems...?" he asked, slowly becoming pale.
