Maybe was good enough for Cadence. It wasn’t a flat no, or a flat yes, but a possibility. She liked possibilities.
“That’s the spirit,” Cadence declared, tapping the counter triumphantly. Turning to Wern, she rushed over and grabbed the Pol-Pol from the larger man and held her up high.
“Sorry for keeping ya waiting, princess. Aunt Candy had to do some business.”
“Candy!” Poliyna squealed, hugging the taller woman. Wern, however, merely sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
“Please, Cadence. Don’t let her look in the box.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
“Just don’t let it happen again, I beg of you.”
“Aye aye. Ah— wait. I’m glad both of you are here actually. There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell the both of ya. Truly it slipped my mind until now, but eh, no use sulking over skimmed milk.”
“—spilled milk—“
“Hush, Werni or I won’t tell ya the gossip.” Adjusting Polinya a little bit, Cadence looked between the three, squinting her eyes as she pondered aloud, “Wern, trade places with me. It’s better I speak in the middle or else this little Roli-Poly is gonna make things explode.”
“Cadence!”
“Explode!” Polinya giggled as Cadence handed her back to Wern, who frantically tried not to let his daughter make his boss’ toyshop explode as aforementioned. Cadence paid little mind as she stepped forward, looking between the two.
“You boys got to be careful now. There’s a descent number of annoyed radishes in Mingos who for one, want ya kicked out of the tight ring of Mingos leadership, Wern— but you know that already. But, they also want to to knock all Robo-arm down a few pegs here too. With Sienna the Flamingo queen back, well, lots of folks are starting to think she should reclaim her title as leader of Mingos for a more, how should I put this… a more cheerful, non disappearing and dead body appearing person.”
