Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

The question severed the purpose Lasair had wanted it to. Even if it had been a mixed bag of reactions, it got their mind off his presence for a moment and hopefully they wouldn’t be too quick to put him under inspection again. “Thank you for the food,” he said gently as it was presented to him. He took the first few bites in silence, unsure of what might come his way next. Everyone seemed friendly enough with him, so that was good. Now he just had to hope Clair would finish her meal quickly and then get the pair of them out of here. He gave her a loving look when their eyes caught each other’s. After all, he was introduced as the secret lover, better act like one.

The look Lasair gave her made her heart skip and she could feel the flush rising in her neck and cheeks. Even her ears were feeling a little red and tingly. She knew they were pretending, but that felt real. Either Clairee was very naive, or Lasair was a very convincing actor. She wolfed down the food on her plate as lady like as she could manage, then set her utensils on her plate in the universal symbol for I'm finished eating.
"This has been truly.... revelatory, thank you for making room for us at the breakfast table, but we really must get going!" She said in a hurry, pushing her chair back and standing quickly to her feet.
"No hold on a tick sissy, we ain't done grilling your beau jis yet," Adelheid objected.
"Let the boy go," Pa overruled. Clairee gave a silent sigh. As she walked around the table to collect her guest her Pa continued. "Just walk the young man to the door Clair, and see him out but you need to stay put."
"But Pa!"
"No butts. I need a word with you too, and we're going to set some ground rules before you leave again understood." She stiffened a little, but gave a small nod. She wouldn't verbally agree to anything tho until she heard what these rules would entail.
Turning back to Lasair, she smiled again, a genuine smile that reached her eyes. "Thank you so much for coming here, I really really appreciate it." She Would walk him out so she could shut the door behind them and talk to him in private, if he wished to say anything to her now, but they'd part ways on the step. No doubt at least half of her brothers would be in the window waiting to witness how they said their goodbyes.

Seeing the speed at which Clair was eating gave Lasair the cue to get through his plate a little faster. He chomped and chewed with speed and finished his plate a bite after Clair did her’s. The conversation that happened after was quick, and Lasair could feel the shifting tide of emotions from everyone around. In truth, he wouldn’t mind staying to entertain the siblings, but he wasn’t sure how deep they would pry before he’d end up stuck with nothing to say. It was probably best to go.
They walked to the door and then stepped out it. An instant later Lasair saw the curtains shift and knew eyes were peeping out at them. He put his arms around her torso, holding her but not pulling her in too close. He spoke low, just above a whisper, to make sure no one could catch his words. “Your family is nice,” he started, giving her a smile. “Thank you for bringing me. Did it go as well as you had hoped? Also,” and this is where he paused. “How heartfelt should our goodbye be?” His head was tilted downward and he realized that he’d need to lean in to reach her face. But he could, and had a hunch he probably would. Clairee had been so nervous, and since she needed him to be calm, he was. But there was something more than that, something genuine behind Lasair’s eyes. He didn’t mind that he was catching some feelings for her—after all, it helped him play the part.

Clairee sighed with relief as soon as the door shut between them and her family. She loved her family very much, but they could be a lot, and when it came to her and the opposite gender... they could be a lot more than usual. Lasair's arms around her torso sent shivers up her spine but it wasn't scary, it felt kind of... good.
She looked up at him as he spoke, feeling a proud swelling in her chest that he liked her family. "That went as well as I think it could have, you were perfect." She answered his first question. As to the second-
Her heart skipped another beat when he asked, and she could feel the tinge of red rising to the surface of her face again. How heartfelt should it be? It didn't have to be much, a hug maybe. But how heartfelt would she like it to be? If she were being honest, she'd like it to be more but she didn't know if she could ask for it. Clairee's emotions could easily rat her out though, not just the color of her cheeks, but the look in her eyes, the way they glanced at his lips before remeeting his gaze, and how her body leaned into his hold even though he hadn't pulled her any closer.
"It could be, pretty heartfelt," she answered. Her voice shaking a little. She felt immediately embarrassed but she wasn't about to take the words back. Even if she was a little hesitant to start something, she wasn't the type to back down once she began.

The joy that spread to Lasair’s face was genuine. He could allow himself this indulgence—in fact he wanted it. His heart was beating fast and he felt alight and alive with emotions. When was the last time he had charmed a lady so? He couldn’t remember. But this was more than just charming, it was another step further. If it weren’t for the fact that he was playing into the part, he’d be scared right now. Scared of her believing in his feelings, scared of committing to something more. This felt something akin to a free pass, or a royal pardon. Best to enjoy it while it lasted.
“In that case,” he started, unable to take his eyes off of her pretty face. “It’s been lovely meeting your family, and thank you for having me over.” He said that line at a louder volume, assuming one of the brothers would hear. “Come see me again soon, alright?” He gave her a moment to answer, and then leaned in for the kiss. He knew it was as real for her as it was for him, but he didn’t know if she’d acknowledge that after today. Her lips were warm and his face burned as they held that moment. They stayed pressed against each other for what felt like forever and only a moment both at the same time. And then he pulled back, a goofy smile on his lips while his eyes were a mix of desire and apprehension. He knew it was time to go.

When he raised his voice, she understood it wasn't for her benefit. The thought that someone was probably watching made her feel more nervous; but the thought slipped away once she saw the joy and genuine expression on his face. It was almost as if he wanted to be kissed too. Being 8 inches taller than her, he had to lean down quite a bit, but on instinct Clairee rose up on her toes to meet him and was washed away by the moment.
There weren't really words going through her head just then. Only the way it felt. It felt... intense, like time slowed down, but then just like that he broke free and time moved fast again. The look on his face as she stared up at him made her heart race. What was that expression? She didn't understand, but she definitely didn't mind it.
"I... will, thank you," She half whispered, only barely holding on to the last thing he said before the kiss. She kept her feet planted but gave a gentle wave. Maybe she'd just wait here until he was out of sight before she went back inside. That is - if her brothers didn't come out and get her first.
She'd been kissed. Her first kiss!
Even if it was all an act, it was real enough for her. The heat in her face started to rise up again, but it was a gentler feeling, not like embarrassment this time, more like... glowing. Was she glowing? Could Anders do that? She covered her cheeks with her hands. Only then did she hear the howling and whistling from inside the window.
Ah there it was, the embarrassment, creeping in at last. She turned to glare at her brothers, and couldn't help but laugh at the kissy faces, and weird making-out-with-myself way they hugged their own bodies and pretended to snog.
She looked back to where Lasair was. Wow.
That was.... that was something. ...And so was the necklass in her pocket, that she'd forgotten to ask Lasair to put back on her that morning. Clair lifted it from her pocket and held it up in the daylight. She'd cherish and be extra careful with it from now on. She'd been in such a hurry to get through breakfast, they hadn't even used any of their cover story or alibis. No doubt she'd still have to answer for them when her father got her alone.
