Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to Fawna Evans Since the battle of Castamere, Lasair had been spending almost all of his time in the HQ. He spent most of the time reading and sleeping, and this moment was no exception to that. Books were scattered on a desk in the library, the desk Lasair had claimed for his own. Some stacks were neat and tidy, some didn’t have these characteristics. There were stacks of books on the floor around the desk too. In the center was a pile of open books, each one turned a different way.
But Lasair was absent from the books at this moment. Instead, he was at the top of a ladder, pulling books from the shelves and piling them in his arms. At first it was just two, and then four…and then six. Now he faced the challenge of getting down the ladder, with the very scary possibility of the books slipping from his grasp.
He started to make it down without a problem, but then the ladder moved, and one or two books slipped from his hands…
Fawn walked in the massive library with a relaxed sigh. The day had been rough and the new war was not helping matters at any point. Nothing could be said in its favor to make anyone in the city feel any better. Figuring she was alone she muttered a few words and her wings stretched out into life. She stood in a big enough space to stretch them back and up instead of out, green feathers fluffing out a bit, and it felt so good to let them free for awhile. That's what she loved about HQ the most, she could be herself and not have to worry about much of anything. No annoying people to try and report her to ERIAL or try to shoot her down out of the sky. With a small shuffle she folded them against her back and walked down the rows of bookshelves.
As she rubbed the back of her neck a bit trying to work out a stress knot she noticed the library in a odd state of disarray. Most of the time the books were kept neat, or at least as neat as you were going to get them. So a desk littered with books that seemed to have not been put up yet was a rare sight. And judging by the massive amount of books on the desk and the slight rustling she heard the person reading them hadn't left yet. The winged ander stepped around the corner just in time to see Lasair trying to climb down a ladder with a pile of books in his hands. 'Is he crazy?' She wondered as she watched until she saw him slip a little, the books falling into air on a collision course with the ground.
Jumping forwards she reached out and managed to catch the two falling books. Tucking one under her arm as she caught the other one like a serving tray. "Easy with the merchandise!" She said taking a moment to balance it before looking up at him, the feathers on her wings a little ruffled by the sudden start. She shuffled them again forcing them to lay flat and stacked the books in her arms hugging them a little. "Didn't anyone ever tell you not to bite off more than you can chew?"

At the sound of a voice, he nearly fell off the ladder. Someone else was here? Right. He forgot that there were other people who could access this library sometimes. Glancing towards the sound, he recognized the mint hair as belonging to Fawna. It was nice to see her again, she hadn’t been around the guild as much.
Stepping off the ladder, Lasair deposited the books he held onto the desk, and then took the ones from Fawn’s hands and placed them on the stack as well. “Thanks for the save,” he said with a nod of his head. The usual smile was absent from his face as he glanced towards her wings. He was about ready to dismiss her so he could get back to work, but then a thought came to mind. Holding up a finger as if to say ‘wait a moment,’ he rummaged through a few piles of books and pulled a specific one out.
“Would you mind helping me do a bit of investigating?” he asked. The worn journal in his hands was the only obvious clue to his request.
Fawna watched him carefully, she hadn't meant to give him such a fright. The glance at her wings wasn't unnoticed but she didn't think too much about it, she knew he wouldn't say anything against them. However in the back of her mind she counted seconds growing more and more confused as he didn't even attempt at some flirty joke. That was unusual for him, even more so the curt attitude he was showing. The look of concern was clear of her face by now as he turned away. Realizing he wanted to show her something she crossed her arms and shifted her weight giving the journal a good look in his hand before holding a hand out to ask if she could examine it closer. She flicked a glance up at him, "Anything for the leader of MI." Her wings made a dry rustling sound as they moved. "And if I may be so bold as to ask, what's eating you?" He wasn't his usual self and it was really throwing her off, even if they weren't close by any means sociably.

When she extended her hand, he placed the book in it. Upon opening the book, she would find that it was a catalog of some shadow beasts, however a majority of the pages were blank and the ones that weren’t only had scarce writing.
Giving her a chance to examine the book, Lasair spoke up then. “I need your help to explore some place in the forest, and the place might hold a shadow beast or two. It’s near HQ so it shouldn't be any of the bigger badder beasties, but I still would rather not go alone. Not to mention a pair of wings would make entering and exiting much easier. Would you mind joining me?” He explained everything in an even tone, one that had minimal emotion laced into it. As for her question about what was eating him; he promptly ignored it.
Fawn gave him one more glance before looking down at the volume in her hands. Shadow beasts scrawled across its pages and short, hurried notes scribbled down about them. She makes a worried face as she looked back up at him, her obvious concern showing for the idea. But despite the danger involved she couldn't let him go alone. He also ignored her question, another unusual trait now surfacing in him for whatever reason. This wasn't the Lasair she first knew and she wasn't sure if she was going to like it or not. Sudden changes in personality like this usually meant something drastic, whether by fate or malicious intent, had thrown him from his usual self. Fawn narrowed her brown eyes at him with reserved curiosity. He wouldn't take kindly to prying and it wasn't in her nature to do so unless she needed too. So with a bit of a restrained sigh she flexed her wings. "I'll go."

When she agreed, he was happy. But the happiness didn’t show on his face. Instead, he merely nodded and reached a hand out, taking the mostly empty volume back from her. Looking towards the desk now, he shuffled some thing around until he found another journal, this one looking far more aged than the one Fawn had just been holding. He handed her this book, a shadow beast archive that was filled cover to cover, and then turned to head towards the exit. The mess of books on the desk could stay there for when he returned.
“It’s only five, maybe ten minutes at most away. A short walk. But it’s chilly out so you might want a coat.” As he said this, he lifted his own garment from a coat rack near the doorway and put it on. Once Fawn was ready, they could head out to the woods immediately.
Fawn looked down at the new book he handed her. It's pages far more filled than the last. She didn't bother to look up when he mentioned a coat. If they needed a quick escape she would need her wings, and being the stubborn woman she was she was not confining them again. She'd do without. She looked at the book again flipping through its pages before sitting it back on the table once she felt she had a decent look. She shifted her wings on her back and turned to him with a nod, heading his way ready to go.

He watched her flip through the book and then set it down again, turning to leave. He frowned slightly, picking up the book himself and sticking it in his pocket. They might need that; shadow beast knowledge was hard to know off hand unless studied. With that, he turned to walk outside now, leading the way into the forest.
After a short walk (which was also probably quiet, given Lasair’s new tendency to avoid questions), they came to a large hole in the ground that seemed to come out of nowhere among the trees. “I was out here with Jakobi, an old guild member, when this hole suddenly opened up. It’s not too deep, but the edges aren’t very climbable. I did come down once with a rope and saw that the place opens up at the bottom, but I wasn’t prepared to go exploring it at that time. And my rope broke as I was climbing back up.” If Fawna glanced to the side, she might see the rope tired around a tree, the end looking as if it had been sawed off.
“You did really well in your trial, and you’d be able to get in and out of this thing quickly, so that’s why I’d like you to help me explore it a little,” he concluded peering down into the hole. It was dark, but they could just faintly see the bottom. It wasn’t more than 7 feet deep.
Fawn gave up trying to talk to him during their walk. Settling for the relief that silence offered to her in place of awkward attempts at conversation with the man gone almost mute. It really aggriavated her to be honest. She was used to being able to talk to people, him more in particular with his cheesy flirts and sometimes fantastic failures at trying to make friends with everyone. She sighed quietly and rubbed the back of her neck with one hand as they came up on the hole. She arched an eyebrow feeling a shiver work it's way up her spine. She didn't say anything as he explained but she did walk over to the rope and pick it up, finding the frayed end to be of more than just a little suspicious. "Are you sure it just broke?" She asked peering at the end and twisting it in her hand. She wasn't overly sure, plus there was really no way of knowing but still....
Her exploring stopped suddenly as he mentioned them going down in the hole. "Wait. Wait. Wait. You want me... to go down there?" She asked incredulously standing up, rope forgotten. "Why do we have to go down in it? Why can't we just like...explore around up here?" She realized her voice had hit a higher pitch then normal and with an annoyed huff she forced it back down. She shuffled her wings nervously at the thought of going down into an underground tunnel. She by no means was claustrophobic, not at all, its just...underground was not a place the ander enjoyed being.

He shrugged at her first question. “No, but I’d like to think that as opposed to the other options.” He had seen the end of the rope himself, but he shrugged it off as simply breaking. Shadow beasts shouldn’t be smart enough to simply cut a rope and move on, and it’s not like one of his guild mates would have done it.
And then she started to freak out. The feathers of her wings fluffed out, her voice seemed to crack a little. It took him off guard as he arched an eyebrow in her direction. “Well, look around. There isn’t anything up here to really see. You can stay by the entrance if you’d like, but I would like you to be nearby. In case there is anything down there.” He could understand her being afraid, and it was okay. However, that didn’t change the fact that he didn’t want to have to climb his way out of the hole again. It was such a struggle the first time. So many falls. So much lost time.
The woman shuffled a little nervously considering her options. She didn't like the look he was giving her. She by no means was afraid of whatever might be in that tunnel, a little unnerved yes, but not quite afraid. She just didn't want to be underground. If that thing collapsed..... But she couldn't just let him go in alone. "Fine, fine." She agreed to come, and that meant she agreed to help him. If this is what he needed she should go without complaint. A few minutes underground shouldn't hurt her. "Let's go and make it quick." She said with a nod. Her hesitation was probably evident, so the winged ander did her best to shove it aside. Fawn approached the hole and looked down into it with the little curiosity she possessed for the place, brown eyes scanning the depths. "How are we getting down? Just jumping in?"

He had to give her credit; she was doing rather well in hiding the fear that she held. Well, not quite hiding it, but more like being able to ignore it and think rationally. Not everyone could do that as well as she did. It was rather impressive. “Sliding along the wall isn’t too hard, but otherwise yeah, just jumping would be quickest. You at least have your wings to held slow your fall, even if you can’t open them all the way.” Stepping forward, he crouched down by the edge. “Ready?” he asked.
"As ready as I'll ever be." She said approaching him and peering over his shoulder. "Go ahead...." She made a reluctant flicking motion at the hole with her hand. Shuffling her wings to fit more to her back, just before she jumped in so she wouldn't bend her wings the wrong way on her decent. She could figure out how to manage once she jumped.

Crouching down to the edge of the hole, Lasair braced his feet against the edge of the wall and allowed his weight to tip forward, making him slide down the steep wall rather quickly. As he came to the bottom, he tumbled a little and landed on his side, ever so gracefully, before standing up again and dusting himself off. He waved at Fawna above him and gestured for her to follow. “It’s not that far down,” he coaxed her, hoping to ease her fear of the underground.
