Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
The two younger members in the room remained quiet as the story was told. They weren't talkers; they were listeners. And they were more than interested in hearing about this story of the past. There were two non-assassins present, which gave Max the idea that there were parts of the story that had to be left out, or at least disguised, but she understood it for the most part.
"How long ago did this happen?" Unlike the more senior members, Max didn't know much of anything about the past war, save for the fact that it happened.

It seemed like Edel was hiding a few things, but he perfectly understood: there were secrets he wasn't supposed to know, and he was not going to do anything to betray that trust, merely nodding at Edel's mention of secrecy.
"It was like, what, five, seven years ago, give or take?" he responded to Max's question, though it was more for clarification's sake than anything else.

"Yeah, about that long, just a couple years less." Edelweiss nodded to Amon's measurement of how much time had passed since that war. She knew on truth it had been 3 years. The civil war starterted at 1887, and it was 1890 now. But she wished it was longer, and probably Amon did as well. She wouldn't specify time for it much more than he had, nor blame him for his assessment having added a couple years to it; truth to be told she honestly didn't want to. "Obviously they removed Bloodletter's body from here, I don't know what was made of it later. Either way this clocktower works as a solid remainder of the war, how a single person's idiocy can do so much damage, and how they'll end. So I never felt like fixing it even after CAEsAL was officially founded and I got the Leader seat. I don't want to let it be forgotten - nor let any of my workers become that stupid."
Never again. Even the very code of the current assassins had been made based on that event: Do not blow your cover. Do not compromise the association. Do not shed blood without reason. All things that culminated with that Civil War and which could be resumed in 'do not do anything BloodLetter did'. And if any of her workers does try to do such a stupid thing like that, she'd also hunt them down. Each. And every. One of them. Even if it kills her inside.

Maeve had a twisted thought, and she chewed on it for a few moments more before kicking herself in the gutt and having out with it. "Why don't we check the noble's grave yard. I mean... he was onn'a them fancy breeches righ'?" so 'e and his whole dead family should be there. We could dig'em up and know for once and all where they took the body?"
"...That's sorta grim..." Amon replied, wincing a little as he was reminded of Iaco. "Besides, with the guy's history, I highly doubt he'll be buried with his family...besides, not like it matters anymore, the guy's dead."
If nothing else, he didn't want another gravedigger in the city.

The young girl only shrugged to the answers. She didn’t really like being around all these people now, whether she was an entertainer or not. And when the one girl mentioned grave digging, she really wanted out.
“Thanks for the story,” Max said to Edelweiss and then turned to head towards the stairs. She wasn’t sure if Jasper would follow her. Maybe he’d prefer to stick around with Edel instead.

Maeve jumped down from the nook she had settled into along the wall in the corner shadow.
"Buncha babies." She muttered, then dusted off her hands. "not that it matters to me none, just sounded like yeh were interested in resolving a mystery." This lot o' entertainers were all squares. And fraidy cats. She was bored again already.

"If you want to check the cemetery you still can, Mae. The guy's actual name should be... uh... lex... Alexander Cohen, if memory serves me right. Just no gravedigging, I don't want to need to bail you out of prison." Edelweiss shrugged. It was true enough, for everything that had been said.
Max was leaving, Jasper was shrugging too and going to leave right after the blond girl, Maeve wanted to go to the cemetery... "Amon, can we talk in particular?"
"Ah, yeah, that's right," Amon replied as he fished his pouch for a slip of paper and handing it to Edel. "I'll be starting a fairly large project sometime in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, whenever I do a project, I have a tendency to just...lock myself in. Since I'll mostly be in a different location, I wanted to give you the address, in case you needed something or just wanted to visit. If for some reason I'm not in either my shop or in that location, just ask some of the workers in the district; sorta hard to not spot a guy with a mechanical arm. I didn't want to make you worry if it seemed like I just disappeared," he explained with a sheepish smile.
"...By the way...that was a really interesting story..." he said, a little cautious. "...Whatever happened to the hero assassin?"

"Enjoy the view, Mae... Or the, well, grave-exploring, if you're still going to do that..." The redhead told Maeve, giving a small goodbye wave and moving to get Amon's human arm and go back downstairs with a quite convincing look of 'sorry but I have a date and it's a bit too crowded for us here'... which was really true in a way. She felt a little bad if that might be seen as rude, but really talking freely wasn't possible like that, and she was also curious about what was it that Amon had passed by her place earlier for and then ended up wandering through her whole District till finding her up the clocktower.
She blinked when he fussed around his pouch and gave her a piece of paper, but ended up smiling at the explanation for it. "I guess that means you actually won't 'stare at this view forever', right..." Just a bit of teasing that she did catch that flirty comment of his earlier, but it just hadn't been possible for her to respond to it back then while also talking of bloody murder and war. "But I appreciate that you told me beforehand, that would really make me worry. ...May I ask what will you be working on, or is that a secret?"
Edelweiss thought that maybe she should say something else to continue the talk, but that thought got derailed when Amon suddenly asked that last question. Oh well, they were far enough by now that there should be no one else to hear, and she couldn't help but give an awkward and a little sad smile. "I'm far from being a hero. I was just frustrated and furious, and that fight was terrifying. His death didn't bring back what I lost either, nor what anyone else lost." She shook her head. Being frank, she didn't regret killing BloodLetter; that man was a danger to society, caused too much suffering from his actions and deserved what happened to him. But she didn't regain anything she lost by killing him. Anything that could be rebuilt for her had been done so with har but clean work, not with death. "...But I'm alive and breathing, at least. Fine enough to be walking beside you."
"Awww..." Amon cooed, bringing Edel into a hug. "Still, you prevented further tragedy by the hands of that fool. So in a way, you're a hero to me," he said, giving her a kiss on the head. "And I am very thankful you are alive."
"As for the project...let's just say it's something big, something bigger, and something that I've always dreamed of," he said with a wry smile.

"Something that will make you fly then?" She asked back with a chuckle, remembering that time when he 'paid an unexpected visit' to her at her father's old house. It was a strange feeling to be hugged like that; strange yet not unpleasant at all. "Any forecasts on when it'll be ready and you'll be back?"

Mae shrugged noncommittally and made her way to the window looking out, instead of filing in line for the stairs. She was a drated feline ander after all. She took off her gloves and stowed them in a pocket. Flexing her fingers, she gazed appreciatively at her claws. Rumors had it, Feline Anders were excellent tree climbers. But had one ever climbed the face of a clock tower? She'd taken the stairs the last few times she'd come up this high, and she knew that their winding decent took ages to complete. "too nice out to be cooped up indoors." She murmured to herself, then without further adieu, and regardless of the others inside - human or not- she slipped from the window pane and dropped from the sky.
a few feet below her claws caught on a protruding stone in the tower wall and her boots slipped on the flat plane. Hmm... next time she'd remember to take those off too.
Maeve looked down.
allll the way down...
"Well, only one way to tell if it was worth it..." She had to beat the others to the bottom. And it seemed like a far more exciting idea than reading headstones.
"...Can't say unfortunately...making the Twins took about a month or so to build and get them ready for society...this might take just as long..." Amon replied.
He smiled at Edel's correct guess. "Did the little song give it away?"

"The song and also how back then I offered to see if I could help with that and you said there was no need since you had something in mind already."
A month was quite a long time though, but she couldn't complain. Not while still remembering she had been the one who stayed away from everyone and everything for five whole months a still-too-recently-for-her-tastes while ago. But just like back then she had needed a little incentive as to when head back out, maybe she should give him something to want to get back out his inventions place soon too. So she pulled him closer.
And if Maeve does catch up to them now all the 'prize' she will get will be watching her boss kissing the eyepatched guy.
