Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"My lips are sealed." Danielle made a zipping motion over her mouth before she let out a small giggle. "Are you going to open your house for the Foundation celebration? I mean, I won't be around for the festivities... I'll be at the next city over on business, but I'd hate to miss the chance to see where you live. Maybe next time, we'll go to your house and I'll make dinner for you?" Danielle rested her elbows on the table and propped her head up on one of her hands.

A tired sigh escaped his lips at the mention of the celebration "Yes, my father insists that we open the house for a party. It is such a hassle, I will have to guard my books all night from those terrible nobles. I saw one of them ripe a page out of a book the other day in the market. I swear, I almost punched the uncivilized brute." He shook his head with a disapproving frown. At her mention of not being at the festival he frowned unhappily at her "Really? Well that is no fun. I was looking forward to having someone worth while to talk to during the hell-fest. I guess I will just have to suffer through the whole ordeal by myself then." As he tried not to look disappointed, he listened to the rest of her explanation. At the mention of her cooking food for him he visibly perked "Really? I would love to try your cooking! My door is always open to you" he said with an excited flicker in his eyes. Home cooked food, made by a girl no less... It sounded like a dream...
Mrs. Wilon's came over with the food. With an extravagant flourish, she set the plate in between them with a proud grin. "Here ya go lovelys! Hope ya enjoy. Don't hog it all to yerself, your highness." After batting Stephen lightly on the shoulder with her cleaning cloth she gave Danielle a wink then walked back help with the other tables. Stephen nudged the plate over to her a little "You may have the first bite. I hope you enjoy this dish." Picture of the meal: www.thecriticalcouple.com/uploads/2/8/1/1/2811540/169619_orig.jpg

"You sure about that?" Danielle picked up her fork and examined the dish before her. "What's in it?" She took a stab with her fork and lifted a bite to her mouth. "You're not poisoning me, are you?" Danielle gave Stephen a small smile before she took the bite. Her face lit up like the stars twinkling in the night sky. She set her fork down and wiped her mouth with her napkin before she cleared her throat. "Ahem... You said you normally eat like this?" She glanced from the souffle to Stephen and then back to the souffle. "Maybe I'll just have to get rich myself..." She folded her hands and rested them on the table.

Stephen shrugged, watching her thoughtfully "Stilton cheese, a few greens and some special ingredient that Mrs. Wilons said she would take to the grave with her. And no, there is no benefit in poisoning you" he finished with a smirk. As he watched her face light up, a soft smile reached his eye "Not always this well but yes, most of the time. A nice quirk to owning money I suppose. Do you like it?"

"It wouldn't be a lie if I said it was the best thing I'd ever eaten..." Danielle took another bite of the souffle. "Are you going to have any? You're making me feel guilty being the only one eating..." Even as she spoke she took another bite. "So, what's the quickest get rich scheme rattling around in that brain of yours? I'm sure a smartguy like you has a couple just for the sake of having something to think about." Danielle spoke half jokingly, her attention drawn to her own thoughts. How to get rich... there's the million dollar question.
Post by Stephen Leland on May 22, 2014 0:11:09 GMT
"Well, I am charmed that you like it. I wanted you to have the first few bites since I have a bad habit of devouring the whole thing when not watched." Picking up his spoon he took a small portion of the food and started to eat. After clearing his mouth he went on with a smirk, tickled to think that she viewed him as a 'smart guy.' "Well, you could always invent something I suppose. Or possibly become a war hero, but I would not suggest something like that to anyone... There is always the fool proof way of marrying into money I guess, but I would make sure you like the person you marry first. That or accidently poison them one day. You could also be a model for fashion, you certainly have the looks for it" he said thoughtfully with a shrug, trying his best not to picture her as swimsuit model and failing. It was dirty thinking but who he was a man after all... "Or maybe you could become a star and make it big that way."

"I don't think an invention would work for me..." Danielle fluttered her eyes and wiggled her fingers at Stephen. She might be discreet about it, but there was no hiding the claws in their entirety. "As far as marrying in? You have somebody in mind?" She grinned at Stephen before taking another bite of souffle. "I'm not pretty enough for modeling. I don't have the figure for it, either... and acting? Never tried it..." Danielle began pushing around some souffle as she rested her cheek in the palm of her hand. "I guess getting rich is out of the question... so you'll just have to treat me every once in a while."

Stephen frowned "Me? Marry? Women run from me. And you think I have a chance at getting married. I am going to die a sad old man, holed up in some big mansion, buried underneath my books." The thought was actually quite believable. Reaching forward he took another bite of the soufflé. At he last comment he smiled "Sure, anytime you want. Just name the place and I will be there with my wallet.... I just signed over my soul with that comment didn't I?" he added with a light chuckle. "I will not take you out, though, if all you do is play with the food. Eat or I will feed you myself" he said with a nod, unable to stop himself from scooping up another bite of the food.

"Oh come on... I know how you nobles do it. You've probably got an arranged fiance or something. Though you might still die alone with your books. Tell you what, you kick the bucket first and I'll make sure you get a nice funeral! There'll be flowers and everything! I'll even use some of your money to hire mourners." Danielle gave Stephen a devilish grin before taking another bite of the meal. "And yes, you're pretty much stuck being my wallet now." She set her fork aside with a contented sigh. "Oh? You? I'd pay money to see you do anything more strenuous than carrying a stack of books."

Stephen grimaced "But all those noble women are... boring and unimaginative. It is like marrying a rock- no, that is an insult to rocks. They just sit around and think their job is to look pretty. It really is quite annoying." At he comment about his funeral he let out a laugh "I see, I am just a walking checkbook to you, hm?" Quirking his eyebrow at her he smirked, taking the bait "Hey, you try carrying "War and Peace", "Moby phallus" and 5 other hard covers for 3 blocks. That is not easy! Lifting a fork to shove into your mouth would be child's play."

"I'll do one better. You try carrying a shipment from three cities over through the woods and back into Lodan." She wiggled her eyebrows at Stephen as she grinned. "I think Ive got you beat, fancy pants." Danielle tilted her head at his comment about noble women. "Well, you mean their job isn't to be an ornament for the lord of the manor? That's a bit of a shocker..." She took another bite of the meal. "Although I can't really say anything about boring. Tell me, Dandyman, what isn't boring? What captivates your attention and makes the time fly by? What kind of person could do that?" She set her fork down and leaned back in her chair.

So, she was in a delivery service. Well, that was one more thing he learned about her. He paused thoughtfully to think about the question. Mrs. Wilons took this pause in conversation as an opening in which she could deliver their main course "Here ya go! I wasn't quite sure what ya wanted dear so I though i'd bring ya the same as Mr. Leland here. It's his favorite. Salmon with jasmine rice and lentils. If ya don't like it, just call me over and i'll get ya something new. 'kay?" She turned to glance at Stephen for a moment and snorted "Stop droolin', it's unmanly" with that she turned away and Stephens stopped staring at the food in front of him to shoot her a glare.
Shaking his head with a slight smile he turned back to his guest and the food "An answer to your question would be someone who was not sheltered from the world I suppose. Someone who can fend for themselves and think on their feet. I do not much care being depended on for everything, it is quite bothersome. A unique personality is always nice. Love of literature could not hurt much too, I suppose." he finished, taking a bite of his food, trying to hide how utterly pleased he was with it "What about you?"

Danielle stared at the food in a manner that very nearly mirrored Stephen. After Mrs. Wilons spoke to Stephen, she quickly wiped her mouth with a napkin before looking back at the one eyed noble. "Me? I... don't really know..." Danielle looked fluster as she thought about it. "I guess I'd like to meet someone who is sweet, and honest, and makes me laugh. He'd be strong, but gentle... and he'd do what's right even if it meant he was harassed for it. When he'd smile it would light up the room and he'd have a heart of gold. He'd be someone who you could sit there in complete silence and not feel alone, or you could talk for hours and it'd feel like the blink of an eye." Danielle sighted wistfully. "And he'd be there when everything feels like its falling apart, just to hold me and run his hands through my hair and tell me everything was going to be okay... That'd be nice..." Danielle flopped forward so that she was resting her chin on the table. "Go ahead and dig in... I'm not that hungry."

Glancing up, he watched her with a smile as she went on in a fluster. Sitting there listening to Danielle talk about her image of the 'perfect man' made the noble examine his own personal traits- which, in his eyes, were more than just a tad disappointing. Really, there was not that much in his favor. He was irritable to most people, did not socialize very much, was always putting up false airs and hiding secrets from others, not a party person, afraid of going more than 8 feet off the ground, self centered- the list went on and on... There was really no way for him to even compete with such high standards; Heart of Gold? Definitely not; Always do the right thing? define 'the right thing' (that is a no then). Some of them he could do, like listening and talking with her, or being there when she needed it. To put it frank, given from her description, he did not have a chance.
As he sat there, inwardly cursing his every fault, he still managed to keep a pleasant exterior as she finished. "Well, it is impolite to eat if the other person is not eating, so I can wait until you regain your appetite" this must be some sort of torture; a plate of his favorite food and a breath-taking woman sitting in front of him, both unreachable. It just was not fair. "Are you not feeling well or something? I could take you to a Doctor if you wish?" he asked with concern.

"No, it's okay. Really." Danielle gave Stephen a lopsided grin. "How about you eat enough for the both of us then." Just to be sure, Danielle gave Stephen one last big smile before she stared into an empty space at the table. Her thoughts thundered in her head like the pounding of a drum. Ideas were nice, but they were never going to happen. She seemed to come back to herself when she glanced back at Stephen. "It doesn't matter what ideals are though... they're just that. Fancy ideas we wish were real but are never going to come true."
