Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Dusk had settled over the quieter than usual Merchant district, few vendors packing up the last of their inventory as the shopping day had ended and found most of their consumers had retreated home. The street was so sparse with people in fact, that the clacking of Ellowyss' heels against the cobbles could be heard from several doors away.
Ella had never seen the streets so barren, not since the days of the civil wars, where friends turned on eachother and no man or andersweltler could be trusted. The sight of shop keepers quickly packing up their wares, without even so much as raising their heads, made the young woman's golden eyes narrow and her brow furrow upon her forehead.
Surely she hadn't been away for so long that the city now held a fraction of the personality it once did? Scenes of familiarity that now held an alien feeling beneath them.
Another figure was having similar thoughts to the other ander on the streets. Everything was so familiar and yet so not at the same time. Same streets, different faces, attitudes all up in a tizzy. The unnamed person couldn't really settle on her feelings for the place. Did she miss it? Kinda. Maybe? There were good memories here in these cobblestone streets, but there were so many painful ones too. Just walking the streets made her feel like she was wading back through old blood she had split.
Oh well. By gones be by gones, and she had come only as a favour, after all.
"Ah hey, before you close up shop completely, can I get one of those?" She pointed to a pack of boiled candy lollypops and gave a good natured smile.
The Shop keep gave her a strange look, clearly uncomfortable. She made for a strange figure on the street, appearance stark white and black, monochrome in the colourful city of gears. Still, when the woman dropped money, far too much money for the simple bag into the shop keepers hand and swiped the pack up, they didn't complain. She tore off one of the wrappers and popped it into her mouth with a happy hum.
"Oh that's a point, old man Johan sent in a request for me. He said there was some weird happenings going on in the merchants district and asked me to look into it. I see now I got here a little late though. Know anything about it?"
The shop keep startled, then looked around nervously. Suddenly it all made sense, in a way. Only a wierdo like her would willing involve herself when it came to those things. "You're here about... Them?"
A smile grew on her lips, the sucker in her mouth rolling to the other side of her mouth as she leaned in too, peering at the merchant with a knowing look, bright hazel eyes flashing over her tea shades. "But of cause." She stated, tone borderline patronising, edged in playfulness, unheard unless someone was really paying attention. She doubted the skitty sweets shop owner was.

The echoes of a conversation a few paces down bounced off the walls of the shop fronts lined either side of the street, catching Ella's ear as her heels continued to clack against the stones beneath her feet.
It wasn't until she passed the old bordered up butcher shop that she noticed a monochrome figure in the distance, the appearance a stark contrast against the gloomy and almost miserable street. The look of the figure caused Ellowyss to raise an eyebrow in curiosity, her approach slow as she attempted to distinguish the conversation that was happening between the two people, ensuring that she continued to wear an expression of mild boredom as not to give the game away that she was eavesdropping.

The shopkeeper nodded frantically, going back to packing up their things now edged in a sloppy kind of rush. The whitette just watched with an amused smile, straightening up and adjusting her specs so they were rested against her eyes again properly. Even in the latter part of the evening when the sun was on it's decent, the light and bright colours still hurt her eyes. The ever present low grade headache twinged behind her eye sockets, but it was deal-able. Some days all she wanted to do was stick her fingers into her sockets and rip the drat things out.
"Right right. so, care to tell me your experiences?" She hummed, prompting the merchant when they refused to start on their own. They jumped much to her amusement, shooting her a nervous look before packing more stuff into boxes.
"Oh uh- of cause. yes. They've been a problem for the merchants district for a few weeks, now. I've heard a few stories; entire stocks going rotten before the crates are even open, even the wood disintegrating. Even things that shouldn't have a cell by date going so bad it's beyond selling. The smells been enough to make people retch. I'm just lucky it hasn't affected my business yet."
the monochrome individual nodded sagely. Yes, it would definitely be a shame if the sweets suffered. "Do you know how many cases there's been?" she questioned, keeping conversation flowing before flickering her gaze to the figure slowly approaching, gaze hidden thanks to her shades. "How often for that matter?"
"Hrm, I've heard of a couple of different cases, too often for there not to be a cause right? There was two alone this week! It's got to be because of them right? there's no other explanation!"
The snow haired female made a lazy affirmative noise, like agreeing with a small child. Shifting slightly, she leaned to the side to pull a little leather journal from her pocket and flick through the information she currently had. It all seemed to match up, although she was surprised Amon hadn't stepped in yet. Who knows with that man though, she had never known him well enough to predict him, even when she was well known on these streets.

Because of them?
Catching the last parts of the sentence, immediately intrigued the young pharmacist.
So there had been some sort of goings on in the last few weeks? A new group? An old group? Something more sinister? Perhaps something linked to the spike in shadow beasts roaming the outskirts of the city for the last few years?
Whatever it was, Ellowyss found herself approaching the pair in a step much quicker than her previous; reaching the monochromatic's side just as the leather journal appeared within their hands.
"So, that would explain the bare market and jumpy folk." Ella quipped with a short smirk.
