Caitlin had been a shadow of her former self of late... she spent much of the wartime trying to keep morale boosted among the troops that were boxed into this city with her during the Sveden siege. It was maddening, being grounded like this, cut off from the sea... cut off from the sky... and eventually it broke all their spirits. Or all of her guildmates where were marooned on this rock with her.
There were the others of course, the ones who were adrift when the war struck, and who were unable to return for as long as it lasted. but with the recent withdraw of the foreign enemy troops, and the promise of upgrades thanks to the Inventors fair, one would expect life to get back to normal for the nefarious pirates and thieves. Strangely that was far from the truth.
They needed a wakeup call greater than that of a boy on the street corner screaming "extra, extra, read all about it, the Sveds have turned tail and the borders have reopened!" They needed something tangible. The thought - hope - words of freedom weren't strong enough. The needed proof.
Proof took its time arriving, but at last it finally did. Caitlin was walking glumly through town, unsure whether to walk the docks or not today when her eyes caught movement in the sky. She shielded her hand against the bright sunny rays as she glanced out at the horizon. Her brows furrowed in scrutiny until recognition clicked in and her heart squeezed. Then her heartbeat sped up, racketing in her chest like a wild bird trying to break free.
She dropped her hand to scoop up the long layers of her dress dragging on the ground and hold them ankle high so she could run across town and up the cliffside path toward the skylift. She needed to see it for herself. she needed to be there when the other half of her fleet arrived. She needed proof....
