Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Elaine made her way to Edel's office with long strides. She was in a bit of a mood, which usually happened when she was frustrated. Her thoughts wandering back to the same few questions it wanted to desperately answer. One of the people she'd considered a very good friend of hers came up and literary tried to coax information about CAEsAL from her. But nothing that would hinder the guild itself. Mainly questions about her involvement. Which then raised the questions on how he could have possibly put two and two together to make the assumption. Elaine came up with a simple plan to solve it.
Lasair had mentioned that he'd spoken to Edelweiss. The CAEsAL leader. So, that's where the younger assassin was headed. To find her leader and report the occurance along with ask all the questions she felt Edel might have the answers to.
The brunette secretly felt rather disturbed by Lasair's prodding. Being a murderer has its perks, and it's downsides. Like the one where your friend realizes you might belong to a league of highly trained killers who work behind the scenes and then on top of that, may learn you're the second in command....
Pushing open the door she knocked on Edel's office door. Her eyes glowing in the dim lighting. "Edel? I really need to talk with you."

Edelweiss lifted her eyes from the folder she'd been reading, meeting Elaine's gaze with her own. Hm, the Feline's glow was turning quite noticeable already, it must be later than the redhead had initially thought - no wonder it was starting to turn harder to read.
"Come in." She responded simply to the knock and call and stood up to flicker the lights' switch on (blessed be those magic-resistant panels, Winters couldn't have given a better gift even if she had sent her a truck loaded with glazed doughnuts), not needing to elaborate further since Elaine was already really walking into the room. "What happened?"

Elaine approached and took a spot on the edge of the seat in the chair opposite of the desk. Already looking on edge, and quite literally. "I know you know Lasair Lupen, correct?" She ran her palm over her face and then laced her fingers through her hair. Pulling out any tangles with gentle force. "Regardless of the fact, he came to me recently and started trying to gouge information about my involvement with CAEsAL. He didn't ask any questions about the guild directly, or anything about the guild at all really. Just my... association with it." The younger girl was spilling everything and there was the definite hint of aggravation in her tone. "He said he spoke with you, as an attempt to make me give I suppose. I'm just...I'm very confused." The girls hands spread out in the air in front of her like she was trying to halt the uncertainty she had. Before green eyes wandered back up to Edel, flicking over the woman's features for signs.

"...Yes, I do." The redhead responded in a half statement, half question tone as Elaine mentioned her knowing Lasair, but then the slight curiosity and tension (mostly derived from how tense Elaine herself seemed to be) was soon exchanged for mild amusement as the younger lass went on about what was on her mind. "Curious guild prodding, huh... That does sound like him, alright." She couldn't help but chuckle dryly thinking about it.
"Lasair is from MI. Our guilds have a couple deals in place, so him trying to snoop around doesn't really surprise me." The fellow ginger had always striked her as very curious sort. "I had meant to have the two of you meet oficially months ago, but other business kept getting in the way. With what you've said in mind though, it might be a good idea to have it happen sooner than later... What exactly did he ask you?"

"He's with MI?" Elaine had always heard rumors of MI. But she'd always seen it as probably mythical. She tilted her head when she realized Edel knew more then she did. It was a relief that Lasair hadn't been sticking his nose where it might get cut off. He must have a reason, especially now that MI and CAEsAL were working together. At least her prior knowledge of that clear many things up. Elaine seemed to relax, her shoulders dropping as ease washed over her. "He said he knew there were more than entertainers hiding in CAEsAL halls and then he just asked if I was working in the quieter parts of the guild." She sat up straighter. "Lasair and I are good friends, in my eyes. Forgive me if it seems ridiculous but I'm partially worried what he's going to think when he realizes I've killed. If I may ask, what position does he hold in MI?"

"Then he didn't find out anything new, I see." Edelweiss mused as Elaine reported on what kind of questions Lasair had made. "MI has faced a recent change in ranks, but information didn't pass down very smoothly; the previous leader knew a lot more about us than the new one does - which has it's pros and cons for us, but doesn't surprise me that people are turning curious from it."
"But your worry isn't ridiculous. Being frank, I share it a lot, for many people. It comes with the job." She retook her seat behind the desk. "As for Lasair's position... it might be more practical to have him explain it to you himself. Are you free tomorrow morning?"

Elaine listened patiently and curiously, sitting very still as she analyzed the information given. So MI did exist, and it had a change in ranks. Much like hers was when she was asked to take up in helping as 2nd. At least she understood that struggle. But information in CAEsAL was vital. The loss of it, or if a report or order was given falsely, could mean the death of many. Rumors weren't just rumors here, everything had importance until proven otherwise. She sat up a bit and scratched her claws on the thick fabric of her pants once or twice. "I don't have anything planned." She assured. Tomorrow morning would be a good time for her to sort out the differences between her and Lasair, and to see if she could scavenge some secrets from the man. He seemed to have far more to him then she originally thought. The second benefit would be she got to sleep on it tonight.

"Great." She smiled in approval. "There's a magic lesson for the guild kids with MI tomorrow. Meet me here at 6am, then we'll fetch the children and head to the forest. You'll be able to have a talk with Lasair then."

Refreshed. That was a good word for Elaine today. She was no longer utterly tied up in a ridiculous knot over worry and confusion about Lassy. She had calmed down since the talk with Edel yesterday. The woman had the most uncanny way of easing her fears just by being nearby. Not that Elaine was the super paranoid type to begin with. Some questions just hit close to home she guessed. The feline was walking into the Theatre with an entire load of fresh donuts. For Edel and the children if the redhead didn't confiscate them all. (Her love of donuts could prove the only problem there.) "Edel?" She called, amused at a performer that passed all tied up in ribbons complaining about the outfit being too stringy. All the lovely daily life of Lodan. Too bad they didn't get to see the more exciting parts. She walked up to the children and smiled, lowering the box for them to choose one if they wished. "A little treat before you go?"

"Good morning--- oh, thanks." The redhead greeted, turning to spot Elaine carrying that huge load of the sweet pastries and then thanking for those with an amused smile on her face. And no, she didn't confiscate them all, just one. The same couldn't be said of the children, however.
Their trip would take them half an hour through one of the guild tunnels, crossing the District and then getting out at the edge of the Hovel to enter the borderland forest. No lamps, no lanterns and no torches. Their path through those dark walls was illuminated solely by the kids' auras flaring into view like large colorful will-o'-the-wisps until they left the tunnel to meet morning light and the surrounding vegetation.

Elaine kept quiet as she walked with the group. Her eyes constantly moving to take in all the new sights and sounds and such. Blinking in discomfort at the light after the long walk in almost compete darkness. Her feline eyes had to readjust from the blinding change. Holding up a hand to shield her eyes she glanced at Edel.

While the CAEsAL leaders and their group of kids were on their way to the meeting location, Lasair was busy doing laps around the area to check for shadow beasts. He set up a couple extra measures to make sure they were sufficiently shooed away, as was a normal part of his routine at this point. When that was taken care of, he returned to the edge of the field and sat down at the base of a tree, ears turned towards the direction they would be arriving from. Usually some of the winged kids could be spotted from the sky at first, but they didn’t bother landing until after Edelweiss and the rest of them arrived as well. So until then, he sat back and relaxed, listening for the chatter of children.

Elaine watched the trees pass. They must be around the edge of the city, along the Borderlands? The children didn't speak much to her but she had a few that came over for a little bit of chat, one of them making her laugh quietly. She noticed some of them melting out of the woods into a clearing, this must be the area they trained in. A few flew overhead, sending a bit of a wind down over the ones on the ground as they circled above. The feline ander stepped out of the forest shadows along the edge of the group, casting her eyes around. Taking in everything with a curious look, keeping her posture up though. Keeping a head over most of the children, her curly hair hard to mistake.

Lasair looked up as shadows began to pass over the field, catching his eyes and pulling them upwards. There were the winged kids, enjoying the open skies, as they could on these days. Standing up, Lasair stretched a bit before walking forward to meet the group. A few kids rushed forward to hug him, as was usual as the meetings. Amber was the first tackle him, but then again, she had an advantage of using the sky to gain the lead. At least she had gotten better at not knocking Lasair down as she landed.
Laughing, Lasair greeted the kids in turn before he looked up to notice that Elaine was standing in front of him. Blinking for a few moments, he wasn’t quite sure what to say, but then recovered and offered her a light smile. “Fancy seeing you here,” he greeted, welcoming the feel of using his signature line. “Are you here for a lesson? I am the best teacher around, second only to the skills merchant himself.” A couple of the kids around giggled at the light joke he made. As the rest of them finished filing into the space, he looked up to try and gauge how many were around, as well as where Edelweiss was in the group. She never missed a meeting, after all.

Elaine smiled at the fond memory of a familiar catchphrase. Her smile soft but her eyes were alert. A lethal killer kind of alert, often passed up as general observation. She was actually used to seeing Edel look about the world with the same kind of eyes. Nothing much got past the woman. "No," The feline shook her head, "I'm not here for a lesson. Perhaps another time Lasair." She crossed her arms a bit, shifting her weight to one side. "I came for another reason today..." Elaine felt the usual worry rise in her chest. Secretly this was up among that of her worst nightmares. She didn't like the fact that she was setting an old boundary aflame like an arsonist with a keg of kerosine and a dry house of sticks. Lasair, regardless of her thoughts, would take it good or bad or however he fancied. The less of a reaction the better to her but it wasn't her choice at the moment. This was like telling your mother you broke her favorite dish after it had been several months of denial and she had finally let it go. "You haven't met the right hand girl in CAEsAL yet." Simple enough start... The assassin straightened her shoulders and untangled her arms. Slipping a thumb into the edge of her belt. "Elaine Anncroft, CAEsAL Second-in-Command."
