Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
It had been a while since Edelweiss had last found herself walking by the docks, mainly with how much work there was to be done at the guild. But she really needed a break. Not only from work, there was far too much stress and emotional strain pressing on her mind and if she was to remain mentally sound and be able to do whatever must be done in her guild, then a walk to wherever her legs took her today was the best idea.
The sound of the breaking waves was soothing, and the salty air brought forth a feeling of lightness and freedom, an urge to get lost for a little while before heading back home when night falls. Jumping in the water for a swim was tempting as well, though the fact she's still fully dressed in work clothes kept the temptation in check.

Her ears must have been burning, since someone was thinking her name. Caitlin turned from the dock where she had been looking out and hugging herself in deep thought. It was a beautiful day, and the warm breeze, crashing waves and smell of the salty sea had a freeing effect. It was cathartic, lifting anxieties and stressors when the mind had had enough.
Whatever caused her to turn and look back, she espied none other than Edelweiss. When was the last time she'd seen the woman? It felt like a lifetime. Caitlin gave a closed lipped smile and raised a hand, prepared to wave the moment she caught Edel's eyes.
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. Calm, muffled, the rest of the world blocked out by the closed door to his cabin, and here they were safe inside. Safe from reality, safe from their own complicated lives. Safe from duty. Safe from context. Just. Safe. --Caitlin

Thinking of the Devil, and there she was. Edelweiss almost snickered at the thought, but just because she might question her own sanity at some points it did not mean she intended to leave room for other people to do it too.
It had been a long time since the redhead had last seen Caitlin though. Last time she could recall was when their group gathered under the cover of pouring rain to rescue Skye... wow, that was a long while ago. Well, better fix that then. She waved back at the pirates Queen with a small smile and, since herself had nowhere specific to be, why not approach and catch up on some chatting? "Hi Cait, it's been a while."

"A while is a bit of an understatement," She spoke with a smile. She reached out to embrace the other woman, they rarely met but she felt after all they'd been through, they were close enough of companions for a small hug.
"I think I caught a glimpse of you at the Queens Garden Party, but not since to be honest. It's almost shameful... but we've all had so much to keep us busy." She waved a hand out toward the motionless ships at dock. With the embargo's from other nations, the seize from the Sved's, there wasn't a lot of day to day life being lived, but a lot of fear and anxiety and living in suspense to keep the citizens more than busy. It gave the city a supercharged staticy atmosphere. And then there were the casualties. Of which she'd lost so many.

It was always nice to hug a friend. And hey, Cait was right. They had met at the Queen's party... but didn't really stop to talk to each other, somehow. "Oh right, you were the Goose girl." She recalled with a grin. "I guess so. Between explosions, guild work and mortar fire... Why does it seem like 90% of times we meet, something explodes?" And funerals. Funerals a plenty, it was almost ridiculous if it wasn't so sad.

"I think it comes with the territory," she said with a wry smile. But in the back of her mind she couldn't help but think of others in their position... Others like Will, and Sienna, and Danny... Others who were no longer around to lead their gaggles through the fires. "Eventually even we will get burned, I'm sure of it." The last bit was said with a bit too much sincerity and the glint in her eye dimmed. It was hardly a joke these days.

"Fair enough, but I'm fine with that prospect, as long as we're honest about it. Some would rather pretend to be dead instead... Ahem." She shrugged, and pretended that little thought whispered aloud wasn't mentioned at all.

She had to really consider it, one the one hand she'd had enough to drink recently to last her a few years, on the other hand everything in moderation and you'd be alright. The thing that pushed her over the edge was that little under-the-breath comment Edel made which spoke to Caitlin on so many levels.
"Absolutely."

Not all drinks are alcoholic, so there was theoption of the ones that aren't still. Although Edelweiss wouldn't oppose to one that is if Caitlin so chooses. But... "I don't know many good places around this area though. Where do you recommend?"

"I know of one that is rather nice," She beamed, leading the way to Rava's pub the Saltly Dog. Anytime she could steer patronage into there she would be glad to do so. "They have great appetizers too," she offered, so that they wouldn't be left only to drink midday like this. Though as soon as they entered it was all to obvious the deflated souls from the dock took no issue with drinking midday, as the place was packed. Rava's dog Dice yipped at them from the door and Cait momentarily paused to lean down and pet the pup on the head.

The redhead chuckled as she spotted the happy dog and how Caitlin crouched down to play with it for a little while. The place was packed full, but not bad, she would freely admit.
"So," She started after they'd found seats. First round is on her. "What have we to tell since that ball... I must say, I'm starting to think the Queen's gardens are cursed or something. That was the second time hell froze in Lodan after a public party there."

"I'm convinced of it," She laughed, remembering how the previous queen had thrown an Alice in Wonderland themed party and it set off the civil war. Then, her sister hosts a Brothers Grimm Ball and the Sveds invade. "The next time a royal decides to play hostess I say we launch a protest. or Boycott, whichever is more effective. Save us loss of life and limb." She'd lost someone in both altercations; first Frees (lost his friendship moreover) and then Levi.
Cait passed Edel a menu but didn't grab one for herself. She knew what was on it by now, knew it by heart.

"Heavens forbid a real royal to throw a better party than us two. Literally." She snickered. May no one try to outshine the Queen of Rogues or the Red Queen, lest the skies would part. It was an amusing thought, when not taken seriously at least. Because in serious talk, they all lost far too much for there to be amusement in it. And the comment served as a two-thirds joke as she glanced at the menu and chose something small for a start. Not much her style to get stuffed at that hour - be it with appetizers or drinks.
"It has been months since we last saw each other though. Was it all guild business in your case, or you had personal matters to attend to too?"

Cait faultered, and her eyes dropped to the table. She reached for a menu after all and pretended to read it. "I wish it were all business," She said in a softer voice. "Unfortunately, everything that happens in this city becomes personal for one reason or another. But even I can't blame the Queen or the Sveds for someone else faking their own death. If I wasn't so relieved he was alive..." Cait's gaze snapped to Edels face. "I'd kill him myself."
Though she hadn't specified who 'him' was.

"....." Ok. While the topic at hand made Caitlin bury her face in the foods list, it was also very effective in unearthing Edelweiss' own face from her respective menu. "I hope we're not thinking of the same person from what you just said. If we are, let me mention he's not as 'killable' as he looks, although I perfectly share your feelings on the matter. And if we are not talking of the same person - then what the hell is wrong with men (and with us for liking them)??"
