“I’ll need a minute to recall a happy story,” he replied, gazing at the stars as he made no motion to remove Sayvahn from his shoulder. Tonight the man could indulge in his feelings, enjoy the time spent with his guild leader. Lasair felt like he deserved that much; a happy night. But tomorrow would be another story, whenever they got there at least. Tomorrow felt so far away at this point.
After a few moments, the general ander cleared his throat and began telling the story. “I was sitting at the bar. It was a smaller place, not many people in it, but I knew the bartender and he owed me a drink or two, so I decided to start my night there before hopping to another livelier place. But after a few drinks, a fresh face walked in. I remember it well; two piercings on his bottom lip, a bandana wrapped around his hair, and a carefree look on his face. He greeted me and introduced himself and well, me being myself at the time, I start flirting with him. New people were my favorite to flirt with; I couldn’t resist. I expected him to reject my sideways compliments, as most guys did, but he didn’t. He took them well and hell, he even bought me a drink or two.
Of course then the bartender started giving us some odd looks. You know how it is; being gay is a crime around here, so I paid my tab and walked out with this guy, suddenly realizing I had drank enough for a good buzz. Then he asks if I’d like to smoke with him because he has this really nice spot he likes to go to. So I went with him, saw this nice spot, and we shared a joint while we talked about life. He was human, worked with technology in the Mingo’s guild, didn’t have much interaction with anders. And then there was me, ander, studying magic, in a secret guild. Those things alone shouldn’t mix well and to top it off, we’re both men. I didn’t expect anything to come from this meeting, but I found myself craving his company again a few nights later.
I didn’t really see him after that though, at least not for a while. But then he showed up at my place one day, back when I lived in the city. He caught me right as I was getting up and said ‘Hey, let’s go on a trip, get out of the city, just you and me,’ and normally I wouldn’t accept that sort of invitation, but well, it was coming from him. So I grabbed my stuff and ran with him. We hopped on a ferry, headed over to Masaa, and spent the day together. He showed me this waterfall that was simply beautiful, and the forest was actually alive, actually had animals in it unlike the one we call home. When the sun set we went to the beach and went swimming and afterwards, stargazing. Masaa doesn’t have the blanket of smog that Lodan has, so you could really see all the beautiful shapes and colors in the sky. It was nice, fun even. I’m happy Viktor invited me out there, to experience all that. It brought back memories of when I was still traveling the world, experiencing something new around every corner.”
He tilted his head back again and closed his eyes, a tear falling from each of them in that moment. Sometimes the good memories brought pain in a different sort of way.
