Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to Amon and anyone else in or visiting his store. After the battle of Castamere, a funeral had been awaiting the Croswell family in which Syd had attended with his grieving aunt. Conducted by the generous Merchanic's guild leader, Syd felt inclined to visit the man and thank him as well as collect his now deceased cousin's belongings. The cold seemed to be an ever persistent problem for the Ronuvian man, however. Despite being young his muscles and joints still ached though grew worse with how cold it got so although the air was mildly chilly he was still bundled in several layers of clothe. Beneath his trench coat he wore another coat, then a vest over a button up shirt and bow tie. In his hand he held an umbrella and on his head a wool hat.
He stood in front of the Toy Store for a moment with hesitation as he glanced back. Thin brows furrowed as he looked at the shop across the street and down a ways with the Croswell name splattered over the window in bold then drew in a breath. He was not ready for this. All of it was too soon and he had not had a moment to cope since he had to be strong for his aunt.
"Hello? Mister Amon." Syd's voice was thick with his Ronuvian accent but still easy to understand much to the relief of others who have had to speak with him since his arrival to Lodan. Once inside he stole the chance to peer around and look at everything.
Amon was a bit of a mess...more than usual, that's for sure. The news of Viktor's death didn't truly hit him at the time, as shortly after, he was called to help out at Castamere, which in and of itself was a disaster. Viktor's funeral was only one of many he hosted and/or attended that week, and that was only for Mingo's. While tears don't come easily to him, it was still an emotionally draining experience, raising his stress levels to the point of mild insomnia.
At least it gave him time to devote his attention to other things.
Amon was busy studying over a set of blueprints when the shop door opened.
"Oh, hey...Syd, was it?" Amon said, looking up, rubbing his tired face with his left hand.
"Can I help you with something...?"

Syd's eyes found the man behind the counter and it caused him to frown. How haggard this poor soul looked. He could only imagine what struggles Amon was dealing with while the war was ever ongoing . As he approached the counter he tapped the end of his umbrella on the ground. "Yessir, I, uhm, I am Syd yes. I wished to thank you for the great service you have done me and my aunt. Additionally, my auntie has told me that you had something of my cousin's. I, uhm, well, I had hoped to retrieve it among any of his other belongings. I hope this is no bother..."
"Ah, no...it's no problem..." Amon replied as he got up, rubbing his face with this left hand. He went into the back room and, a moment later, returned with some keys and a clockwork doll head.
"In addition to the everything that's in Viktor's shop, he also left behind Nikolai," he explained. "Unfortunately, due to a recent event, all that's left is his head, and I just never had the time to sit down and do a complete repair of the rest of his body...sorry," he continued, presenting the keys and Nikolai's head.

While Amon retreated to the back Syd waited patiently in the front. Upon the Merchanic's return the Ronuvian was surprised to see the clockwork doll head in his possession. "Nikolai...?" Taking the keys and doll in hand he thumbed over the details of the doll's face plate.
"I do not appreciate being handled in such a manner," came a voice from the doll causing Syd to nearly drop him from being startled. Shocked, he looked up from NK-5 to Amon.
"Nikolai! You are alive," he declared.
"Not necessarily, Master Miklos, but in the sentiment you mean I suppose I am."
"May I leave to see my cousin's shop," he now asked Amon. "Uhm, what will happen to the structure?"
Amon shrugged. "It's up to you to be honest. Whatever is in there, I trust that you'll see his possessions go to the right people. As for the place itself..."
He paused, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Depends really...do you want to leave the shop for someone else, or take up your cousin's business?"
"You don't need to give an answer now, you can visit the shop before you make a decision..."

He could just take Viktor's shop? The thought almost seemed cruel. His cousin was not deceased for long but on the other hand he needed to find work quickly so that he could pay for his living and his aunt. Viktor was a mechanic, however, and he was not.
"I am not... I do not do work like he does. I work with tattoos. Would I be able to utilize his shop for such purposes? I would like to take his shop then if I could... Keep it in the family of sorts. Uhm, if that is quite alright?"
Amon rubbed the back of his head. "I don't see anything wrong with it. Take a look around the place, and if that's what you really want, we could schedule another time for you to fill out the proper forms and have the place officially transferred to you..."
He paused. "Will you be joining Mingo's as well, or simply become an independent business?"

"Mingo's..." He'd heard of it. Viktor spoke of it--but Viktor talked more than anyone else he knew and to keep all of everything he said ever in his head would be complete and utter torture though now he wished he had listened better. "I am unfamiliar with what that is, sir. A group of businesses I take it? What are the benefits of being under such a group? Does it offer aid in finances and advertisement?" Those were the only logical things he could think of, unaware that he stood in the center of a bunch of toys that could become weapons in just a moment's notice, that the man he stood before was no simple toy-maker, but a genius capable of devising the most intricate of robotic marvels also quipped to kill, that many beneath the banner had something more to them than meets the eye. Didn't he have his own secrets however? He was still, in fact, a Croswell.
A thought still struck him. Viktor had joined--admittedly because of his father though Syd didn't know his uncle had been the reason--but his cousin had joined and it meant that perhaps he should as well. But first he wanted to be certain what it was he was signing up for.
Amon raised an eyebrow. "Not from here I take it? The city is revolves around a system of guilds; there's EIRAL, the army of Lodan; CAEsAL, the entertainers; and Mingo's Merchanics, the merchants and engineers. There is supposedly a fourth one, made up of thieves, pirates, and rogues, but I don't know much about them..." he explained. He neglected to mention the fifth one, partially due to keeping it a secret, and partially due to having even less knowledge on it other than it is made up of Andersweltlers, it exists, and that Danny is their leader.
"As I mentioned, Mingo's consists of the merchants and engineers; although CAEsAL has their hand in the city's economy, we handle the commodities and trade. As such, a majority of the products that you see in this city was most likely bought from a Mingo's store. Although it is possible to step up a store without joining Mingo's, it's really...difficult...very few shops can handle the competition successfully..." he continued, rubbing the back of his neck.
"As for benefits, you've pretty much hit the big ticket items; we do provide financial aid, and the mere fact that you are a Mingo's store pretty much guarantees you customers to begin with. Plus, you have the benefit that if something goes wrong, you have a community ready to help you with almost any problem. And that's pretty much the gist of it," he said with a shrug.

"No. From Ronuvia." Guild system? That sounded very familiar to the mob and gang system that overtook many of the cities of his homeland--especially those heavy with the slums like his own city. He hoped these guilds were not as bad. As Amon explained them, he was relieved that they in fact were not like what he thought. A rumored fourth? He wanted to find out more about that but he did not wish to pester the other any longer.
"I think I would like to join this guild then. Uhm, I presume you are the one I still talk to about these things...? Would it be best to sign for the guild at the same time we switch over the title of my cousin's shop?" Whether it could be converted for tattooing or not, he was sure he would likely take it just to keep it in the family.
Amon shrugged. "If you want. Why don't you take a look at his place while I get the papers ready. Sound good?"
It was a rather bittersweet feeling: he lost one Croswell, and now he got another...though there really was no replacing Viktor.
He was...a rather interesting soul...

A nod was returned to Amon's words before Syd left the store to make his way over to Viktor's shop. It was perhaps a couple of hours before the Ronuvian returned without NK-5's head in his hands. There was much work that would have to be done but nothing he could not get by with. There was even a space for living up above the shop too! An added bonus.
"Uhm, hello again, Amon? Are the papers ready...? Or should I come back?"
"Hm? Oh, yeah," Amon replied, pushing forward the papers and a pen. "Everything in order?"

A nod was given in reply as the Ronuvian stepped forward to claim the pen long enough to look through and sign all the papers necessary. He was quiet throughout the duration with the weight of everything baring down on him, but perhaps that was for the best. Amon seemed fairly busy and distant himself. When he was through, he set the pen down on top of the papers then slid them back toward Amon. "I suppose that is all? Thank you for this, mister Amon."
