Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to Viktor Croswell The air was fresh and crisp. The ground was soft under his feet. The trees seemed to part for him as he walked. It was a nice day, a perfect day even to be out of the city. With the ever present curfew and the never predictable bombing, Lasair found himself exiting the city more and more often in favor of its outskirts. Anything to take a step back from the business, the sourness, the sadness.

The wind passing through his red locks was an incredible feeling every time he rode whether it was his own steam-powered bike or one he was making for someone else. Every movement he could feel felt different compared to when he was riding passenger--as though when driving there was a deeper understanding between himself and the mass of metal he was currently huddled over. The test ride seemed to fair well at every sharp turn he took while dirt kicked up behind him. She gave little to no complaint at the treatment and seemed to excel at the reckless behavior but what would it matter? Few people ventured far from the city with the red alert that came from the war breaking out. Many would say Viktor was reckless to be out so defenseless especially without NK-5's presence, but the red head didn't care. So much destruction and pain wracked the city. With stress being at an all time high and Stephen's bike finally finished, he only wished to reward himself with at least one moment of peace.
The final bend proved to be a near fatal error. As he rounded the curve a familiar sight caught his eye though in the moment it was nothing more than a blur as he jerked the steering to avoid the figure. Rather than hitting the person, his bike skidded and angled lower than what she could bare and so both she and her rider were promptly dropped to their sides where they slid in the soft mud and came to a grinding halt. Behind them, a streak was left in the ground marking where their path had taken them. With a groan and a curse, the red headed mechanic pressed the heel of his right palm into his bike to try and push it off of his leg while is left arm hugged at his side. The steam-powered bike budged little and so the man laid there for a brief moment simply trying to assess how much damage might have occurred to himself and the bike. He couldn't feel much--there was pain surely, but not enough to merit a broken limb of any kind. Scrapes? Certainly, to both himself and his customer's purchase but nothing he could not fix. Hopefully, scrapes were they only thing on the bike that needed fixing.
"Hey! Mate, think ya can give me a hand," he shouted to the person he'd nearly ran over.

What a nice day. Such a calm walk. Everything was great. And then someone came out of nowhere and nearly ran him over.
“Are you okay?” he asked immediately as he walked over to the man. A moment later he recognized him as Viktor, and with it, a ball of nervousness grew in his throat. He offered the familiar mechanic a hand to help him up while trying not to accidentally bump the bike at all. What with ander touch being bad for mechanics and all. “What are you doing all the way out here?” he asked once the man was on his feet.

With another groan, the merchanic peeled his hand from his side to use both hands to shove the bike off enough that when the hand was offered by the other he could easily pull himself out. "Thanks, Mate, I really app--" spoke the older of the two as he stumbled to his feet, brushed himself of dirt, then pushed his goggles off of his face to peer at Lasair. He hadn't seen the ander in some time--since they went to the island months ago. "Lasair...?" The scrapes and pain in his side was mostly forgotten now--mostly because when he didn't move it seemed to grow numb. "Lasair! How are ya doin'? How's the old man? Been busy? So, uh, been awhile." The first of his words came out in happy exclamation but as he continued to speak, he turned to try and upright the bike once more. "I was testing out a client's bike--just got it finished and I'm a year late so... yeah, but better late than never. What are you doing out here?"

The ander laugher nervously as Viktor seemed to rush through what he was saying. “My dad? He’s doing fine. And yeah, I try to keep busy, doing well otherwise. I was just out for a walk. You know, getting a breath of air away from the city and all the mayhem associated with that.” Lasair found himself talking fast and took a larger than usual breath as he finished. Turning his attention to the bike, he examined it with a curious eye before speaking again. “I like the design,” he added with a nod to it.

"I could see how you'd want to get out of the city, yeah. Most of it is in ruins... but it's dangerous out here, you know?" He was certainly not one to talk. "Glad to hear your old man's holdin' up fine--Oh, hey thank you. The design is based off of something in one of my dad's old books," he replied, voice softening with the last statement while his shoulders slumped a little. There was a small smile at his lips that soon brightened once more as he looked back to Lasair. "Hey, you want to walk together for a bit? I think there was a pond up ahead or something that is real nice around this time of the year--maybe it'll be frozen? I mean it's not that cold yet but who knows. Some of the days have been frigid enough."

He relaxed a bit as Viktor talked, smiling even as he mentioned the pond. “Yeah, that sounds nice.” Turned back towards the path, Lasair waited for Vik to pick up the bike before they began walking. “What’s been happening with you lately? Have the mortars been hitting you hard?” He shoved his hands into his pockets and looked forward, admiring the scenery around them. Viktor was pleasant company to say the least. He was good conversation and not bad on the eyes either. Lasair almost felt bad for avoiding the mechanic’s company these past months.

"No," he chuckled. "If they hit me then I wouldn't be hear now would I," grinned the red head back at the other in a smart alec reply, winking as he took the bike by the handlebars. "Jus' teasin'--They've been a bit bothersome with the noise and the booming, the crashing, the shaking and what not but I've no room to complain--I feel terrible for all the folk that lost their homes. Most of them are ander aren't they," he paused to look at Lasair, brows furrowed and frown tugging at his pierced lips before turning back to push the bike onwards. "So I guess the military isn't going to do anything to help? Last I heard a lot were crowding the Central Square--Lasair, how has the mortars been affecting you? I hope with better fortune?"

“Well I’m glad you’re still here then,” he chuckled with Viktor’s reply. He really should have phrased that better, but it was too late now. “As for me, well, my house is still standing if that’s what you mean. Otherwise…I don’t really know. I don’t like them, but it’s hard to really think more on it.” He shrugged, continuing to walk at their leisurely pace.
The walking stopped when he heard something ahead, something that sounded like a branch breaking, but not the normal kind of breaking. “Did you hear that?” he whispered to Viktor while his eyes peered ahead. The path in front of them looked natural, but he suddenly felt rather suspicious.

"Glad you are too," came the reply, toothy grin briefly flashed at the other as he pushed the bike along. Viktor was fit but not in the sense that he did lots of cardio or worked for it. Instead, he was fit from lifting things around the shop and as such his poor health in everything else was beginning to show as they made for the pond with the bike at the mechanic's side. "Huh?" Lasair's inquiry brought the green eyed man to a pause so he could listen but with his light huffing from his struggles he hadn't heard a thing--that and he was particularly unobservant in nature outside of anything that interested him. "Uh, I don't hear anything now? Maybe your ears are playin' tricks on you with all the mortars and stuff. Besides, its just probably an animal or something in the woods. Come on, the ponds only a little further ahead--right around the bend there," he gestured with a nod ahead.

He shook his head, continuing to walk again. “Yeah, probably just an animal. I admit I’ve been a bit jumpy lately. Always feel like something bad is gonna happen, you ever get that?” Kicking at a stone in the path, he didn’t even notice that Viktor was struggling with his bike. It hadn’t even occurred to Lasair to offer to help him; his mind just wasn’t there really. Up ahead, the shimmering of the pond was coming into view. It was a welcome sight for the ander. It meant a chance to relax.

"Hey, with the mortars and the announcement of war, can I really blame you for jumping? No, I can't. Besides, better safe than sorry, right?" As the pond came into view, Viktor paused to catch a few breaths of air and grin before shoving the bike forward while the gears turned in his mind about designing a lighter model--would make the bike easier to get up to speed and travel farther and faster... not to mention easier to push. "So," he began as they drew nearer, "You haven't done anything exciting these past months? Visited no place special or anything? Lassy, I didn't upset you or anything did I? We haven't talked since that last time we hung out and I know I've been busy, but," he let his voice trail off as they reached the pond and then he kicked the stand of the bike out to let it rest without his need of support.

Lasair nodded along as Viktor mentioned it being called for in these war times. And while he was right, there was something else to keep in mind too; the fact he was leader of a guild now. Leaders should be prepared, not jumpy. But that was an issue he couldn’t bring up the mingo’s member, as tempting as it was. “Nah, I’ve just been spending more time than usual at a library.” He paused, however, before continuing to speak. “You didn’t do anything to upset me, no. I just, well, I have no excuse really.” His shoulders moved up and down in a quick shrug and his eyes drifted away from Vik. No, he really didn’t have any reason, let along one he was willing to admit.

"Ah, gotcha. Alright then." Accepting Lasair's answer had seemed relatively easy though the mechanic didn't give much thought into it. With all that was happening in the city both of their schedules were rather clashing--at least for the mechanic. He could have easily gone to visit Lasair and not done so himself, but many things distracted him. A forced exhale through his nostrils escaped as he was reminded of NK-5's current state and how he still needed to repair him... "Hey, so, I don't have the best memory, but can you tell me about yourself some again? You liked reading, right? Your parents make--what was it--jewelry?" As he spoke up, he stepped away from the bike to draw closer to the pond, kneel down to scoop up a stone, then stand and toss the stone across the water to make it skip.

The ander chuckled as he looked out over the lake. It seemed that the mechanic’s memory wasn’t the best, but that was alright. “Yeah, they make jewelry. Recycle old pieces into something new mostly. People sell stuff to them and they rework it to turn around and sell it back. Sometimes I find a lost ring or something similar and give it to them, that’s how I earn my keep in the house. But if I want to actually buy something myself, like one of those books, then I gotta find the money myself.” Bending down, he picked up his own rock and tried to skip it like Viktor had, but it landed with a bloop instead.
