Having been at the forefront of the group, Kalum was not so lucky in finding his cover as fast as the others. He turned when the first mortar impacted the ground and lost his footing with the second. The sound of the booms so close by made his ears ring but he ignored the dilemma as he crawled under cover behind a tree opposite of Jovena just as the third mortar impacted. As Kalum sat up and pressed his back to the tree, he hadn't dismissed the fact that the third had over shot them farther than the other two. They mustn't know where they were exactly, he resolved and had a brief moment of relief until Pendrake's voice filled the vicinity. What was he doing screamed the soldier in his mind as he turned to look at Jovena to see her own expressions of confusion and displeasure. Whatever time they had had was now depleted with the other's actions. Just then another hazard caught the raven haired male's attention. Gladys, their trap expert, was moving and there were three large armored soldiers standing between her and her goal. She had the cover of the trees, but would it be enough?
Advancing toward them in a slow pace were the three soldiers. Their heads turned this way and that as they scanned the tree lines for any movement since they were not able to pinpoint the four EIRAL soldiers' exact locations when the mortars were fired. Each carried a melee weapon and one carried a rifle as well. The two without the rifle bore no face mask though had head protection while the third was covered completely head to toe. With Artorigus' sudden appearance they halted, and a shout in their native tongue was made from the fully covered soldier--likely their leader. The other two replied with a cry as they lifted their weapons and charged for the man while their leader lingered and lifted his gun in response. Without hesitation, he unloaded his rounds toward Pendrake.
Kalum had peaked around the tree just like Jovena to see what would be coming. "Jov," he called to her in a harsh whisper. "Their faces--aim for that." From their vantage point, their faces were the easiest to target though Jovena might have had the extra time to notice that the hydraulics of their armors were also exposed in the joints and capable of being disabled.
Gladys was lucky. With the soldiers' attention on Artorigus, they would not notice her movement in the brushes, making her trek to the cabin relatively easy if not adrenaline induced. However, what awaited her at the calm looking cabin was likely unexpected. Inside there was nothing but a small fire in the fireplace, pots on a stove, a couple chairs for seating, a cot for sleeping, and a moderate bookshelf. There were no real rooms save for a bathroom and no one inside. A sudden boom would shake the grounds beneath her feet, however, and if she went to inspect the cause, she would be able to see an explosion among the hillside just behind the cabin and opposite her allies. From where Kalum, Artorigus, and Jovena were, they would be able to easily see the plume of dark smoke rise from the sudden boom that occurred moments ago, and they would not be the only ones surprised. The two men still charged Artorigus, but the soldier holding the rifle stopped to see what had happened.
Behind the cabin stood a rather tall figure dressed in the advanced ranks of Sveden military. Upon their head rested a hat and from beneath that hat flowed a thin lock of red hair that whipped about the figure as a breeze swept through the valley. Their trench coat had been removed from the left side and pushed down to reveal the mechanical arm that secured the grenade launcher to their shoulder as they held it. When the figure turned, it would become clear that the person was responsible for the destruction in the hillside and they were also female. Her face bore an eye patch to cover the right and her from the patch a large scar marred her face. One question was left to be asked, why would she shoot at her own men? Where she had shot had been the source of the mortars.
