Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to All "Why does everyone keep saying that?" Jovena questioned grumpily as she marched with displeasure to her post on the outskirt region of the city. It was 4 o'clock in the blasted morning, and the only thing lighting up the sky were the occasional mortar fire, tearing its way randomly through the city, disfiguring buildings, making some topple, and punching new windows in others. It carried a strange sound when fired, a kind of shriek in the wind. Jovena Yawned, adjusted her firing weapon, then her knives, and trudged on.

When Jovena had reached the outskirts, she would find a couple soldiers had dozed off at the base of a ruined structure in a desperate attempt to catch a few minutes of sleep despite the horrendous sounds piercing through the sky. This early in the morning during late fall was chilly so they huddled close. Among the men, perched on an advantage sat Kalum with his lens fixed over his right eye, bow in hand, and a blade of long grass between his lips. Upon hearing Jovena approach, Kalum lifted his bow and turned to face her but paused in recognizing she was only a fellow soldier. With a soft exhale through his nostrils, the huntsman eased and returned his gaze back among the forest's edge for any signs of movement. "Are you here to relieve one of them," he gestured with a slight wave to one of the two men at the base of the structure. Whether he'd admit it or not, he was happy someone else had arrived so he wouldn't have to be alone. Caracalla was nice... but she wasn't exactly capable of speaking. Reminded of his eagle, he passed a brief glance up at the sky in search of her. With the light of yet another Mortar passing overhead, he could see her vague outline among the darkness and tree tops. Good, she was out of immediate harm's way.

Jovena nodded and pointed at the who she was here to relieve. Then she unslung her rifle and picked a spot a few paces from Kalum and perched. With her boot she kicked the sleeper. "Hey, head back to your bunk, sleep there, you'll be glad you did come morning." No one wanted a kink in the neck. She gave a quick pass at their surroundings then rest her elbows on her knees, gun laying horizontal across her palms.
"Anything happening?" She asked. No news was good news. She hoped he said no.

The man groaned as he stirred awake and then heard the whistling of another mortar. In a moment, he was alert and looking about though in a matter of half a second he realized his surroundings. With a nod to Jovena, he stood and gathered the rest of his gear before heading for back for the barracks. The other soldier with them was not far in waking behind him and when he was awake, he acknowledged Jovena then went to patrol around their area. Once Jovena joined Kalum on his perch, she'd be able to see that on the other side of the building was another womano f EIRAL making her own rounds.
"Nothing yet. Just mortars so far," came his reply, looking to her briefly before directing his attention back to the treeline. "Mortars all night. Seems quiet aside--odd if you ask me." As he fell quiet he began to chew at the end of the blade of grass for if nothing, the act helped him to concentrate. "Did you come from another post or fresh from headquarters?"

Zona had been out too long and she could feel it now... After all this time she thought she could go back to her normal routine, but noooo! This drat leg just had to give her problems... As it was she came out here later than normal and was now leaving hours before she would normally give in to, the sun was normally high in the sky when she left the forest. At least her shooting didn't get any worse, still hit every bulls-eye dead center with a simple arrow. Zona had been out all night practicing her bows skill in her normal spot, a short walk into the forest that led to a small clearing, not many knew of the spot and those who did never liked going in there just because of how deep into the forest it was starting to take them. Zona didn't mine though, ever since the incident with the Devil Dogs everything had been fine there, in fact she kind of likes the piece and quiet it offered, though right now she needed to make her way home.
As she began to walk out of the clearing and into the forest a limp began to emerge with each step. The prosthetic leg didn't like the rough ground apparently, since the pain in her leg grew a bit with every step. Just because the leg was healed didn't mean her body was used to having so much weight on the cut bone that sat on the new leg. Oh well... she would just have to hurry home then.
The closer she got to the city the louder the mortar got as well, she didn't realize the trees masked the sound of them that well. Though once the mortar's sound died down Zona noticed and heard something else, it looked to be the silhouettes of people two of which seemed to walk off. "Great... They have to be EIRAL guards..." Zona thought as she stared over to them for a moment before thinking of what to do to get around them. A plan came into her head as she began to turn to head back into the woods, though for some reason she couldn't... Her leg somehow got stuck under a turned up root from the tree next to her. "dung..." She cursed to herself as she tried to pull to pull it free, only to fail and fall head first forward right into the line of sight of the people she wanted to avoid. And to add to the fun her leg remained stuck standing upright under the trees root, she must not have fully snapped all the holding for it...

Sayvahn tried to keep Mala back. Hide her from the fire and smoke that tore into the ground. But she couldn’t stay. She had to run. Dash through the alleyways, searching, killing. No food could satisfy the hunger of the kill, of breaking a rats neck, of tearing open flesh, of ripping bones. Yet, became distracted. Saw a woman walk, through the alleyways, and out, out into the forest, where she practiced. Mala had followed and watched, silently. Captivated, but no disturb, no. Just watched. Learn. Arrow, hitting target after target. Heart after heart. Beautiful. Forest dangerous, but woman, she walked through like she lived it, breathed it. Mala followed her back- she had to. Woman limped, leg, wounded. Trapped by hungry ground. The forest didn’t want to let her go. Fire and light continued to rain. Sounded, hurt Mala’s ears. But she still heard the sound of speak. Of people. Of soldiers. So did the woman. She tried to walk, but the ground held back, caught leg. And woman pulled, pulled back until she fell into eyes of foes. Caught, leg, sticking up, body, on ground. Mala jumped. Dashed over to body. Deserted the leg, and crouched over the figure, beckoning her to grab onto her. Clutching at hands, to tug onto her back “Come. Climb.” She hissed, pulling.

Jovena nodded. "Yea, fresh eyes, fresh ears." Speaking of which. Movement caught her gaze, a flash of blue in the dense burn oranges and reds of fall leaves and naked brown trees. It was gone as quickly as it had come however, she couldn't tell that the whip of blue hair was now hugging the ground. What she could latch on to though - was the flash of Mala running toward the spot Jovena's eyes were already fixated on.
"THERE!" She barked hotly, and snapped up her rifle in the same direction.

Kalum had been looking at the other end of the forest and so hadn't caught the initial glimpse of Zona yet when Jovena seemed to grow more alert, he drew his attention to her then where her eyes were set when she barked the direction and moved. His eyes scope locked in on the spot the moment he stopped moving his head and he reached up to flip the lens to get a better view before dipping a hand into his quiver to notch an arrow to his bow. As the last light of the previous mortar died, everything went dark again. He kept his eye trained on the area waiting for the light of the next mortar to reveal what their targets were so he and Jovena could dispatch them.
"Do you have sight on the target? Did you see who or what it was?"

"What the hell!" Zona snapped as someone tired to pull her onto their back, "Let me go!" She added as she pulled her hands from the other person, pushing off and away from them some causing her to roll backwards some. Zona ended up rolling out of the forest and into the clearing in her attempt to get away from the other person, forgetting about her fake leg being stuck and the EIRAL officers that stood not to far off. "Who the hell was that?..." Zona asked herself as she rubbed the back of her head some. Another mortal flew in the air just moments after the other died down, lighting up the sky and everything on the ground. As The mortal went up Zona turned around some to see where it would land, only instead of her seeing where it would land she noticed the EIRAL officers standing guard with their gun and bow up, ready to fire. "dung..." Zona said as she flopped back onto the ground, realizing she was out in the open and missing a leg.

Woman pushed away. Refused Mala’s help. Mala staggered back, out of line of fire, but woman, staggered in. Mala crouched low to ground, growling. Fire again flew across the sky, lighting everything. Claiming earth for its own. Illuminating shadows, illuminating them. And the soldiers. They peered, aimed. Would fire? Fire at woman? Mala growled again. If rushed, would get hurt. But woman wounded. Didn’t want help. So, held back. Beautiful or not, Mala not stupid. Woman on her own. No convincing- but distraction, perhaps. Keeping in tree line, Mala took out bone. Held in palm, whispered into depths. Then threw, far away from woman, closer to Mala, summoning a skeleton—to distract, to let the other flee. If woman did not accept help, then that would be it. Mala would leave. No point in dying for stranger.

"n..no, its just a couple of, women?" She was guessing, even with the renewed light, the hugging tightly to the ground and hiding behind the trees meant she had to guess at the briefest of glimpses she'd received. She started to lower her sights when a skeleton burst from the ground and ambled forward.
"SHOOT, SHOOT, SHOOT!" She gritted through her teeth as she raised the rifle and refocused aim on the moving target. She remembered these things, she remembered them Far FAR too well from the prison escape. One had nearly killed her, and she still had the scar on her wrist to remind her of that night for the rest of her life. No wonder the EIRAL hated the witches coven, guild, whatever.
Jovena didn't even flinch when she squeezed the trigger and let the first bullet fly.

With the scope situated over his right eye, Kalum had a better vision of what it was that might have been lurking in the dark when the mortar lit up the sky. Jovena had been right--or appeared to. Those did look like two women and one of them with... blue hair? In the darkness or mortar colored light, it was hard to tell. They certainly did not look like Sveden units which made this entire ordeal more difficult given that leaving their position to seek the two women out would offer an opening of attack for any enemy units lurking in the forest. Jovena's cry of SHOOT rang in his ears though did not startle him. He was used to that. He saw the skeleton jut as he did and it made him clench his teeth. How he -loathed- anders but none more so than those who destroyed the balance between natural and unnatural. Necromancy was evil--taboo. Just as the woman fired her rifle, he wasted no time in loosing the arrow notched in his bow and immediately set another ready to fire.

Zona watched some as the one solider shouted out about shooting at the un-dead thing. "DON'T SHOOT!" Zona shouted out as she quickly rolled out of the way as the two let their weapons speak. If she knew anything about these skeletons it was that they went down easier in a hand to hand type of combat. After all it was a skeleton... It had holes, and opening, and gaps all though out its body meaning less chance of anything hitting it. She kept an eye out as the bullet and flaming arrow flew though the sky towards the creature, only time would tell if what they did actually worked against the creature. Zona would have gone up to it and smacked it down but with the projectiles coming at it and the fact that her leg was still off in the edge of the forest she was kind of stuck sitting off to the side.

Mala watched. Woman, not fleeing. Soldiers, firing. All for naught. No point. But interested, none the less. A minute, and skeleton crumbled. Bullets passed. Silence. What now? What next? Mala crouched in bushes, waited. Waiting to run, to pounce, to flee.

Her bullet tore right through the skeletons ribs, not that he felt it. It fit cleanly between the bones and flew onward to strike the face of a tree. The bark splintered where it embedded in the trunk. The walking dead continued forwarded, unperturbed. Not sure the arrow would fair any better, but she didn't have time to wait and watch, she had to reload! Jovena's fingers trembled but she managed to get the bullet in the gun and raised her sight to aim again. By the time she found her target, the spell died off and the bones collapsed to the ground inanimate again.
She continued to hold her breath as she watched it, waiting for it to twitch, rise, anything.... but it didn't.
"I hate those things..." She said with venom. She'd been attacked by one in close quarters before, she never wanted to see one up close and personal again.
