Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
OPEN TO Edelweiss Fjäril "Sorry again about earlier," Amon said sheepishly. He was away for only a month, and even though they really didn't hang out as often as lovers should before he shut himself in, it felt so long since he had seen Edel. So when the invite came along to hang with her in her apartment, he gladly accepted, bringing along a long suitcase containing a side project he wanted to show her. In the meantime however, he still felt a little guilty for seemingly giving her the cold shoulder.
"I guess I just didn't know how to act; I didn't want him to figure out you were an Ander, and I didn't know if our relationship could compromise anything...I guess I was just being paranoid..." he continued with a small shrug. "...Can you forgive me...?"

"Well, I was wondering what exactly you were up to pretending you didnt know me, that's true." Edelweiss stated while closing the apartment's door again after the mechanic had entered, but she didn't sound upset by it. "I don't think it would compromise anything. EIRAL isn't aware of the 'darker' side of CAEsAL, and their relations with the open side of the guild vary between neutral at worst to positive at best; acting inconspicuous is our speciality, you know. I've instructed my workers to be friendly to as many from the EIRAL ranks as they may afford and I did as well. Even if not counting intel purposes being on their good side can be a handy ace on umpleasant situations - although acting that way feels disgusting."
She gestured to the nearest couch if he feels like sitting down, then gave a small smile. "...I'm not upset, though, if that's what you were worried about. Want a coffee or something else to drink?"
"...Thanks," Amon replied with a small smile, feeling a little relieved. "Sure, I'll take a coffee," he said as he placed the case down next to the couch.
"Need any help?" he asked. If nothing else, it was an excuse to spend more time around her.

"Might be more fascinating for me to see how you work without any tech," Amon replied with a small smile. As he turned to follow Edel, his eye fell upon the table in room. On it was his gift: the gear box heart that he gave when he confessed his love to Edel, acting as a center piece on the table. It wasn't that long ago, but he still remembered that night vividly. And then another thought occurred to him...
"...Speaking of paranoia and compromising intel, I feel like you couldn't share the finer points of your past during our little...date," he said a little apprehensively, remembering how she only later shared the finer points of her "bloody history lesson" with him after everyone else left. "If it's okay with you, could I hear more...?"

"There's still -some- tech, it would look suspicious without it when I get visits, but yeah... not much of it." She shrugged, Amon would see it anyway once he's there, her fridge wasn't exactly the small kind of furniture... or the fact she avoided getting too close to it and only opened that door with a laddle, cable or anything serving as an extension of her arm. Thankfully the coffee bag was kept in the cupboard, not the fridge, and the stove was of the wood-burning kind, so settling coffee to brew was rather simple.
"Hmm, sure, I don't mind telling you... Anything specific you want to know?"
"Start from the beginning," Amon replied as he followed her, ready to give her a hand...er...at least help her out. "I remember that you had an actual family at one point, and that after your dad passed, you did odd jobs until you became a doll maker. What I don't understand is how you made the jump to being an assassin..." he continued. For that extreme of a jump...something must've happened...

"......... It actually came along the 'doll-maker' part. And my mother is alive, just so you know, we just don't live together. It wouldn't be very safe." Edelweiss gave a bit of a nostalgic smile at that. This was going to be a really long story if he wanted her to start from the very beggining, but so be it. They had time.
"I'm a halfbreed, my mother a General Ander and my father being human. My mother had always been quite sickly, and she was clumsy enough that most work wasn't fit for her; a maid who keeps breaking plates or calls in sick every week doesn't last long in a job. I was a really sheltered girl though, and didn't really understand any of that until after my life hit its most wrecked points since they made sure I didn't run any risk of doing anything that might end in me bleeding, including leaving the house without supervision or playing outside with other kids. Thankfully I was still homeschooled though, so wasn't completely oblivious to the point of disaster. My father was responsible for the house's income, and he disappeared when I was 13 - exactly 13, to be more exact. It was my birthday." She shook her head as if that would send that thought away. "Up to this day I'm not sure what happened to him; he simply went to work and never came back home. I don't know if he died or just left us, and to be frank I don't know which I'd prefer... he was a good dad though." At least from what she could still remember. "Me and my mom lasted for about half a year with our saving and any sporadic job she could find, but then she had to start selling things from the house so we could keep buying food. Paintings and vases, shelves and chairs, carpets, curtains, books, most of our clothes and all my dresses and ribbons and girly things (dresses are always expensive, shorts not so much). You remember how empty it still looks, right? I kept the place, but never gathered will to refill the furniture there." That was deviating from the topic though, she should go back to the main point. "And even then it would run empty soon or later, and us too. It was a dreaful feeling, so I decided I'd do something as well. At first simple things my mother didn't notice or mind: babysitting the baby of the lady across the street, teaching people how to read musical scores, washing dishes, mowing the law. Then once I sold my hair." She pointed at her own head with a bit of a wry grin. "My mom almost had a heart attack when I came back home, the barber cropped it so short I looked like a mini soldier. But red hair is pretty uncommon, mainly at that length, so I got a pretty good price. Did it a couple times again every time it grew out enough. And around that time people started to think I was a boy, so I started finding more quick jobs and that escalated what I could do little by little. Selling newspapers, delivering letters, carrying packages, running errands. I got quite a taste for running then, even through unusual places like roofs and narrow alleyways if it meant I'd get anywhere faster. When I was around 14 I had found a more stable job at a bakery as a delivery kid. Didn't pay all that well, but was enough to live. Pretty normal work." That was about when things had suddenly went wrong, so she made a small pause to take the coffee and pour it in two cups for Amon and herself. Just a short break to breathe and take a sip before continuing.
"Normal? Queens, you've done more in your childhood thus far than I pretty much have most of my life..." Amon replied, dumping in milk and sugar into his cup before taking a sip.
"...It didn't last long...did it?" he said after a short pause, more of a statement than a question.

"Compared to my current work, yes, very very normal." She let out a sad chuckle. "Lasted around 7 to 8 months. It was me who quitted, though. On one of those trips I was supposed to bring some packaged ingredients from the docks to the bakery and then be out again for a home delivery at the Central Square, and a couple thugs followed me from the docks; when I left the bakery again with the actual food they started giving chase... don't know if after me properly said or just for being hungry. I ran like hell's spawn was on my heels, occasionally slamming against random things and trying to lose them in the crowd, till I found some footing to climb and reached the rooftops. Kept running over there, and they right behind." She took a sip of her own coffee; properly (or overly, depending the opinion) sweetened too of course.
"I'm not sure how much you know about magic, but the first tier of Speed allows the caster to double jump midair. It was one of the very first spells I knew, and I used it to jump across the distance between two far away roofs. They didn't notice that detail and tried to jump after me the whole way - and we were way, way above ground." Sigh. "I think the first kill affects everyone differently. Im my case my legs gave and I just sat there panting and shaking like a rattle for a while." It not being intentional probably added to it along her young age, but thinking of it back then she felt relieved she at least had not vomitted or similar. "After that, it just felt really dull, like I was mostly just letting my body move without my mind being fully aware of what it was doing. I think I somewhat made my way down to finish the delivery, but by then I was covered in dirt and scratches, and the sole of my shoe had given in and I threw it away so was barefoot too. The woman who attended to the door just gave me a disgusted glance, muttered 'filthy brat' and shut the door on my face. And to think I had been chased around and almost mugged or killed because of her. What a pleasant evening~" Sarcasm at its finest. "I was exhausted and depressed and just sat down somewhere to eat and cry, but another brunette lady walked up to me. And the first thing she said was 'I saw what you did there'." Clue had truly given her the biggest fright ever back then.

"Funny how they can be persistent," Amon replied with a sad smile. At least she got away...
"So that was just the first of many life-threatening experiences...can I presume that the right person saw you at the right time?"

"Pretty much." The redhead grinned. "Her name was Clue. A bit of a quirky, but bright lady - the leader of the Assassins Guild back then. She became my new boss, and was an in-between of an older sister and mother figure. Our headquarters used to be under the cover of a toyshop, so that's why I ended up getting a dollmaker work, meanwhile being trained for the more dangerous things. Don't get me wrong, it was an actual job - I made and repaired dolls, attended customers, sold and purchased stuff, got paid, all the odds of the job - it just wasn't the only thing I did there."
She finished with a shrug. "And that's about it. The rest you already know."

"You continued being a prominent member of the Assassins until the Civil War, in which you then assassinated the instigator, and somehow rallied up the Entertainers and the remaining Assassins under one guild," Amon concluded with a nod and a smile.
"You never cease to amaze me, you know?" he said, giving her a kiss on the forehead.

"You make me sound a lot more amazing than I am though." She had to add, but smiled a little at that forehead kiss. That seemed like something he liked to do often, but it wasn't bad at all.
"What about you? If I may ask... how the arm thing happened." She pointed at her own right arm, meaning how Amon got a metal prosthetic. "And everything else." She knew he was a great mechanic and made automatons for sale, but she couldn't picture him (nor anyone even vaguely sane) removing their own limbs just to test their tech-building skills. And it just didn't seem to be a birth defect, at least that's what her intuition ws telling her.

"Ah, that reminds me: there's something I wanted to show you...turns out to be a great segue into that particular topic," Amon replied, going back to where he left the briefcase.
"Is there a bathroom or a room with a mirror I could use to change?" he asked as he picked up the case.
