Thrakazog couldn't imagine Caitlin as a 'normal woman', even if Lorri thought it was the case. He'd been at sea for too many years, heard too many stories, and nothing about his time on the Dauntless hinted that Caitlin was anything less than what he imagined her to be. But he figured Lorri would learn that soon enough, for herself. If Caitlin had taken her on as part of one of her many crews, then inevitably, something would happen to convince Lorri of the 'truth'.
But then Lorraine was offering to help Thrakazog with reading. She was so nice! How could he say no? He nodded agreement, and said eloquently, "Okie dokies, Miss Lorri. But me tink it'll be more easy to teach youz enginez than it'll be for youz to teach me big words! Har!"
He chuckled at her, and was having a genuinely good time. But when Lorri offered him the remains of her lunch, he wasn't so gentlemanly that he refused. That was also probably why he wasn't more lean and trim - Thrakazog almost never said no to more food. They cleaned up, and he hid another blush by keeping himself busy getting his boots back on. Once they were situated, he offered her a hand and they returned to their work.
It took the rest of the afternoon to get the wood decking clean, even though ridding the place of the rat's nest was simple enough. There was just a lot of elbow-grease and mopping, over and over again, to get the soot and oil eliminated. By the time they finished, their arms were sore, but the ship's engine room was in tip-top shape, and Thrakazog thought it was good enough to bear the scrutiny of their Captain. They returned the mops and bristle brushes to their places, gathered their things, and disembarked. But before Lorri turned to go, Thrakazog offered her another option.
"Youz maybe wanna come with Thrak? Cookie iz prolly makin stew, and if youz iz part of da Cap'n's crew, den youz kin prolly eat dere too." For all Thrak knew, Lorri had a place of her own, or a husband, or maybe she slept on one of the other ships. But he figured that maybe Caitlin would be there, and he could introduce Lorri.
