"Ok," she said but it came out funny, like there was a frog in her throat. She stood up and brushed off her skirt. Carefully she picked up three of the six knives. They were beautiful, but she supposed that was to be expected given who their owner was. Jovena popped the blade up from her palm and caught it again experimentally like she'd seen a lot of the expert knife throwers do on her island. She wasn't sure what this was supposed to tell her about the weapon, but she thought it had something to do with weight and balance.
Carefully she squared her feet in front of the target and held the first blade up in her left hand at shoulder height. The other two she held down at her side in the right hand, evenly spaced on either side of her middle finger. Jovena was left handed, which meant she was lucky in her culture. She hoped it was true as she took a deep breath and drew back her hand.
With a flick of her wrist she sent it flying forward and the knife lodged itself very close to the bullseye with a quick jolt. Her eyes got a little wide but she quickly hid her own shock. These were extremely good quality blades. She shifted another of the three knives into her left hand and cocked back her wrist to throw it. This time she wasn't as lucky, and the blade just barely missed the board, embedding in the wall a hair beneath the target. She winced and quickly drew the third knife, hoping to distract from the last miserable throw. This one flew a little wide but she silently thanked her stars that it at least hit the board. After a quiet sigh she turned right face and locked her hands behind her back.
"Will that be sufficient?" she asked, not knowing if she was supposed to throw all six. She'd like to quit while she was ahead 2 out of 3 in the dart board.
