Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
OPEN TO MAGICAE INCOLENTIUM The trees swayed in the cold breeze that swept over the land, their branches hypnotically rocking to and fro, their bark creaking, aching, in the eerie stillness of the morning; the calm before the storm. Clouds loomed dull and low over Lodan as Jak paced up and down the dreary edge of the city. To the untrained eye, it would appear a mere street urchin was wandering about the border of the forest, most likely to pick pockets of unsuspecting travellers or some such delinquency. However, not all is as it appears to be.
Blood is a funny thing, invisible under the skin until drawn to the surface by blades or ills. Just a fluid, flowing inside our bodies, yet the very essence of our being; it controls us. It is passed down from parent to child, a legacy of wealth and renown, or chains of poverty and stigma; a blessing, a curse....or a gift. Within the blood of an Andersweltler, there flows something more than cells of red and white and the bitter taste of iron..there flows magic. Magic only those of Andersweltler ancestry possess, that which humans fear and envy.
There have been whispers that the Andersweltler are on the rise, and today, Jak felt he should stand watch outside of the Magicae Incolentium headquarters, in case there were any new recruits or prospective members. He paced up and down, and to the eye of someone who possessed this magic, he paced not in front of only trees, but a grand building, tall and daunting, in the cover of the forest. Anyone with questions or curiosity would head straight here, and Jak knew this without a doubt.

Bruised, tired, cold, and miserable, Danny made his way back into the city. It seemed like he was stuck with a string of bad luck, and had been since Tuesday. He flopped down to rest as he thought about his week. Tuesday, he came back to the city to find his stash of trinkets robbed. Wednesday it rained and he couldn't find a place to huddle through it. Thursday, he ran into some trouble with a couple of bums, human and Anders mixed in the group. And now, today. His trip out to catalog some of the shadow beasts in the area had been a failure. He'd lost his journal with most of his work, as well as his coin purse. There wasn't much in the purse... but that was besides the point. Yes, it had been a thoroughly rotten week.
Danny pushed himself to his feet and stretched his arms over his head. Maybe there was a soup kitchen or something nearby. Maybe it was going to be something good a potato and ham chowder. Yeah, and maybe Danny would be plucked from the streets by a kind noblewoman, taken to her estate, and made her heir. Danny tromped through the streets, turning this way and that, all the while singing to himself quietly.
Danny wandered for ten minutes or so before he pulled up short, his breath stolen from him by what he'd found. It was massive! Who lived there? Couldn't be anyone from around here... they wouldn't be able to afford it. Noble? No... too close to the city edge. School? Couldn't be it. Too grandiose. Danny's curiosity got the better of his caution this time around as he walked towards the massive building before him. He drew nearer and nearer to the building before he noticed a boy standing around in front of it. "'ey, mate! Ya, ah, ya know who'sit is?" As he spoke, Danny turned to look at the boy before facing the building again, his eyes sparkling with an all consuming curiosity.
A small, lopsided smile crept over Jak's lips. He casually walked over to the small looking boy standing before the headquarters' entrance. "Yeh, as a matter of fact, I do." he grinned broadly. "..Mine. Well, ours." he looked the boy up and down, and took his hands out of his pockets to rub them together in an effort ot warm them up. "Perhapse, even yours. Not everyone can see this place, y'know. What's yer name?" he walked over, held out his hand and beamed. "I'm Jak."

Danny looked away from the building to Jak."Tha's yers? No kiddin'?" Danny tugged his scarf up higher on his face as Jak moved closer. "M'names Danny. Whaddya mean not everyone can see it? Things massive there!" Danny turned back to look up at the building with awe. "Whaddya mean it could be mine?" Danny shoved his hands into his pockets and tilted his head down to veil his face even more. "Ain' tryin' ta stiff me, are ya? Not robbin' me?" Danny took a step back from Jak, just to be safe.
Jak chuckled and shook his head. "Well, Danny, not belong to you, exactly....but you might belong in it." he flicked his head to get the strand of white hair out of his face. "No worries, I wouldn't rob ya. You're Andersweltler, aren't you?" he cocked has head. "That's why you can see it. Only Andersweltlers, or halfbreeds, can."

Danny crossed his arms over his chest. "Yeh... 'm an Ander..." Danny shuffled away from Jak as he muttered his reply. "Who're you? Whaddya mean I might b'long there? Whatcha sellin'?" Danny stuck his chin out, still hidden by his scarf, at Jak. He had to look tough. Like he could take the other guy. It's how you kept out of trouble around here. "Ya mess with me an' I'll clock ya..." Yeah... that sounded about right. He looked around for a second, to make sure Jak didn't have any backup hiding somewhere close by. Nobody in sight... that was a good sign. "Whaddabout you? Ander or Halfy?"
Jak laughed and crossed his arms. "Nuthin'. Ain't selling nuthin'. Only, if you can see this place here," he mostioned with his thumb to the mansion behind him. " then, that means you're Ander, and possibley, have some kind of.....magic ability." he lowered his voice a little. "As fer me.....I'm the leader of this place. Well, of sorts. And I'm interested in people like you. You see?"

"You? Leader of this? Right... ain' foolin' me none. Betcha half the stuff ya told me's jus' some lies ta filch my pocket." Danny shoved his hands into his pockets and took another step back. "Ain' no way you can be the leader... Yer what, eighteen mebbe? Don' look like ya could afford even the front porch of this thing..." He glowered at Jak from under the brim of his hat. The guy was lying... had to be it. But... what if he wasn't? Danny wanted to believe him, but it was too far fetched. Too out there. A kid was in charge of this massive place? Yeah, right. Danny mumbled loud enough for Jak to hear. "If yer in charge, prove it..."
Jak flashed a toothy grin. "Seventeen, acctually. And the only way I can prove it, is to show you." a hint of mischief glinted in his eyes, and he turned toward the steps. As he slid his hand along the rail, frost spread over it, and small iceflowers traced over the sides while tiny icicles formed and hung beneath. He stopped, and turned to look at Danny. "Well...you coming?"

Danny let out a quiet gasp at the ice flowers. They were so pretty. He walked up close to the flowers, his attention completely focused on the flowers. "They're... beautiful..." muttered Danny. After a small moment, he coughed, cleared his throat, straightened up and shoved his hands into his pockets. "Ah... I mean... eh? S'what? Jus' some sparkly flowers... don't mean yer in charge here." Danny kept his gaze away from the flowers... or tried to. Every once in a while, he'd take a peek at them from the corner of his eye. He took a deep breath then wandered up the steps, following Jak as he went. "Ain' convinced jus' 'cause ya can make some shiny ice..."
Jak chuckled heartily. "That? Oh, no no, that's nuthin'. I mean, come in 'ere." He gestured toward the giant double doors. "This," he made a grand sweeping motion into the hallway beyond the doors (that were seemingly opening on their own), but it fell short as Jak was no showman. "..is our base of op'rations." he turned to Danny. "So, Danny. You looks as if you could use a home. Like ya feel.....tired o'the way humans treat you, and barely scrapin' by on the streets. I know the look, I used to be the same." his face was somber a moment before he grinned energetically again. "But here, we can change that. Who says humans should be on top, anyways?" he winked. "...If ya catch my drift."

Danny crossed his arms defensively and tucked his chin further into his scarf. "I'm doin' fine..." He took a peek inside the building before muttering, "Might be nice to stay..." He quickly tried to cover up his lapse with a loud cackle. "Ya mean we're gonna get even? Be on the same footin'?" Danny leaned forward at enough of an angle that the lower part of his face wasn't hidden by the scarf. Through his grin, he asked "Where do I sign up?"
Mischeif sparkled in Jak's eyes and a large smile crept up his cheeks. "There's not much we require of you, just a few things." he shrugged and tried to look casual, but it was obvious he was excited. "And a test. Just to see you're serious, you under stand. And that you'll be.... loyal." He looked at Danny out of the corner of his eye. "If ya pass in one piece, you're in."

"Dammit! I knew you were sellin' something'!" Danny harrumphed and crossed his arms again. "So whaddya want me to do?" Danny grumbled under his breath as he waited for Jak's response. Of course this would happen. Nothing ever comes for free. Danny made a mistake thinking he was just being nice. Nobody's that nice. "C'mon, spit it out..."
Jak blinked, a genuine, sober expression on his face. "Loyalty. No sellin', no lyin'. How are we to build a counter-army without soliers?" he smiled devilishly. "So....whaddya say?"
