Special invitations to Zona K. Noakes, Lasair Landevier Lupen, and Alonzo K. Ruxton. Everyone else welcome at their own accord. (This is the opening thread for Elaine's new plot twist. There will be an NPC....you have been warned. This is just sticking toes into the water with a bit of pre-event trouble.)
It was going to be a stormy day. The skies were turning an intimidating shade of gray and distant peals of thunder warned everyone of the oncoming showers. These ominous clouds reflected in the emerald green eyes of a young girl named Elaine. The young feline ander had gone for a run and went to the hovel instead of the Theater District she knew so well. She wanted more practice hurtling herself over obstacles. Elaine pulled her cropped jacket on as a gust of wind tore through the alleys and whistled through the empty houses. "Big storm eh?" Some residents of the Hovel murmured to one another as she passed. The girl merely ignored them and pushed herself to a jog. She could get home well before the storm hit. Her corset had been left at home on upper window sill in her room to dry, she needed to go take it inside.
After jogging around the corner the girl saw a group of people headed her way. Many of them citizens rushing to get home and none were a threat. As the crowd surged around her she slowed down to weave her way out. She listened in on any conversations she could catch a fleeting sentence of. "I hope this doesn't tear off the shingles. We need those!" To her right, "They say storms like that are premonitions for trouble. I hope it doesn't involve us." Elaine was reaching the end of the crowd. Just before she stepped out from in between the group when something sharp sliced through her upper left arm. She hissed in pain and grabbed her arm. The cut burned and she could feel blood welling up under her fingers. The feline glared unto the fleeing crowd looking to catch someone's eye. "Hey! Who did that!" She yelled at them. Several turned with wide eyes in surprise. No one looked suspicious and the people slowly disappeared further down the street.
"What the hell!" Elaine cried moving her hand to look at the wound. It was a devilishly clean cut, a newly sharpened knife it would seem. Blood flowed freely out of it and down her arm. Quickly double checking her pockets, belt, and daggers she made sure she hadn't been pick-pocketed. Blood was soaking into her sleeve staining it red.. She needed to get it bandaged soon. Turning on her heel suddenly cross the girl took off at a speed walk. Her loose tunic like shirt billowed a bit in the rising winds. As badly as she wanted to investigate, today was not the day. She could report the incident to Stephen or Edel and find out if there were any other occurrences that matched this one.
Elaine turned down a nearby alley to take a shortcut when a small chuckle of laughter caught her attention. Whirling around she called out, "Who's there." The girl circled on the spot and stopped facing the way she came. She couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. The laughter faded and Elaine began to wonder if she had imagined it but suddenly something cut across the lower part of her rib cage. "Gah!" Elaine cried out and looked at the wall beside her reaching for her side. Circular plates of metal were lodged in the brick. Thin as they were they had four pointed blades. (Throwing stars) The wound on her side was the same as the clean cut on her arm meaning that they came from the same attacker. She was being targeted. But why? Two flashes of metal caught her eye and she jumped out of the way to see two more stars hit the dirt behind her. Elaine's head snapped up in the direction that they had came from.
Up on a roof edge with its knee propped up was a figure in a long trench coat. Elaine reached down and unsheathed her daggers. The blood on her right hand made it hard to hold on to but she would manage. Raising her daggers defensively she saw the figure perk up in interest. Thunder boomed, even closer now. They stood there glaring at each other when Elaine quickly turned and bolted from the alley. Slipping her weapons back into their covers as she ran. He may have had height advantage but the girl had endurance. It would be tougher to keep up with her on the sloping uneven rooftops. Her shirt began to stick to her side and she put a hand over it to apply pressure. Whoever the guy was he was deadly accurate. The feline had a feeling he hadn't missed but the one time. Racing as fast as she could with her attacker on her heels she felt herself begin to slow down. 'Who is he?! And why is he trying to kill me!' Her frantic thoughts screamed.
