Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Well, thank God he had brought along the landrum. It had gone through his whole body. Tingled every sensation, bringing forth nice happy thoughts because the man had taken his sweet old time, which was really, really, pissing Sayvahn off. All he knew is, he had better have been doing something important, that is for sure. When the other finally did come, Sayvahn was sprawled on the steps, smoking a cigarette. He didn’t bother getting up as the other passed, but instead raised his brow as the other greeted him. And wow. That was some hair he had on him. His fingers tingled, almost wanting to cut it. Such tender colored locks were hard to come by these days. “My, handsome and bold, Lasair. Can I ask, is this all natural?” Savyahn questioned, taking his time in getting up as he approached the door, cigarette still in hand as he waved at Lasair’s hair. “Or does the carpet not match the drapes?” Puffing one last O, Sayvahn tossed the cigarette into the purple fire pit as he walked inside, still not impressed. Really, the guild must have been overcompensating for something symbolic. That, or they had picked the place off from some noble who had horrible taste in decoration.

Lasair paused in his step, but only for a moment before he laughed lightly and turned around to look over the other. His eyes were red, probably from the various substances he had lurking in his coat. “Yes it’s natural,” he said with a grin while he laced a hand through the hair, allowing it to fluff slightly. “And as much as I would like to sit back and chit chat about myself, I gotta give you some information about the guild. You know, rules and formalities and all that.” He gestured to the entryway they stood in before continuing. “This place is headquarters. It’s a safe haven of knowledge, as well as a literal safe haven from outsiders. The library is quite extensive, and throughout the halls you’re find many rooms serving various purposes. As for you specifically, you’re welcome here any time. Just remember that this is a secret guild, so keep it a secret.”
He stopped his lengthy talking to give the other a chance to answer, even though there was one other bit of information he needed to share, it was probably better not to bombard him with it all in one breath.
As the other spoke, Sayvahn wondered why the hair seem to move on its own. Was it, in fact, a real flame? He probably should have made a move to put it out, really. Or maybe pushed it down a bit. You know, to put that laugh and its mouth to other uses. But the other seemed fine, so Savyahn left it alone. Though, the urge did return as Lasair babbled on about the place. However, it seemed the red head wanted his attention when he mentioned the “secret part”. “Oh really? This place is a secret?” Savyahn looked around, which only gave him so much, since it seemed to go on for quite a bit and they were still at the door. “I just thought the whole “find me in the woods” and “pass this test and that” was just for kicks.” Raising a brow at the other, he laughed. “Dearie, I’ve been around long enough to know when and when not to talk. Now, why don’t you continue with your speech? Or maybe even walk inside while talking. You know. Where it is probably warmer.” Folding his arms, he rolled his eyes at the fact that they hadn’t even moved yet. “This way I can admire your bum without freezing mine off.”

He found himself chuckling again. “I think you and I will get along quite well, Sayvahn. It’s good to know at least one of our members has some common sense.” However, Lasair made no move to walk further inside. He did gesture for the other to step ahead though. “I actually won’t be staying, just need to finish the introductions. There’s only one more part, I promise.” He winked at the other in the pause between his sentences. “You’ll need to make a mask. Emphasis on make, since it can’t be one found in a store. Doesn’t have to do much other than cover your identity.” Tilting his head towards his own mask, he smiled again. “Any questions? If not, you’re free to wander the halls and warm up your rear.” Oh how Lasair couldn’t wait to run into this guy again, when he didn’t have to be Mr. formal, introducer of the guild. They would have quite the time together then.
If there was no need to walk inside, Sayvayhn would just let his bum freeze. Especially since he wasn’t really raring to go inside in the first place. Something about a dark and trippy unfamiliar interior did not warrant his interest, though, what was worse. Tripping out in the forest, or tripping out in a strange building? He was going to have to think about it. “By the way you talk of our guild mates, it seems I may have to be concerned.” Stepping inside, Savyahn figured it was better to experience a bad trip metaphorically then a literal one. Didn’t want to be gobbled up by a beastie, especially after all this trouble. “Making a mask is easy, dearie. And no questions, though, I do want to leave with a parting gift.” Taking out a card from his coat pocket, Sayvahn handed it to the other, flashing a grin. “This is my information. I’ll respond to this more likely then I will whispers in the dark, but the later could be fun sometimes, I suppose.” Turning, if the other wanted anything more of him, he would stop. If not, finding a comfy place to sit was his new priority along with saying “Ciao, fox man. Until next time” before yawning, and disappearing to find a beloved sofa.

As the many whispers of a mage guild in the city of Lodan repeatedly made his way back to him Lucius began to excite himself. The thought of a group of people able to help him control his magic and unlock his potential was something that he almost couldn't pass up, even if they were just rumours. After asking a stranger who had brought it up to him where he could find the guild, the stranger directed him to the nearby forests although not to any one place in particular, simply to look for a man with fiery orange hair. Lucius waited for the next day and gathered a sack of food to take with him as well as a flask filled with water. He began heading into the forest. A few miles in and Lucius became skeptical that he would ever find anybody and almost resigned himself to give up on the idea of the guild altogether, however upon realizing he was lost, he decided to continue looking. 2 hours had passed by this point and after a small snack and some more walking, he heard a noise in a nearby clearing. Lucius dashed towards the clearing. As he got closer he could see a man with bright orange hair sitting and relaxing near a tree. "This must be him!" Lucius thought to himself. As he entered the clearing he sprinted towards the man, and without even pausing to take a breath he exclaimed "Hello, my name is Lucius Thompson and I would like to join your guild!".

Lasair was aware that people were starting to associate him with his guild, despite his best efforts. He had a vague feeling it somehow stemmed from his connection to CAEsAL, but he couldn’t be sure. Either way, he still waited out in the forest for new recruits to arrive. They weren’t a common sight, but then again, not everyone was in a hurry to join an illegal guild that kept their base in the same place shadow beast dwell.
He sighed, pushing his mask off his face to rub it a moment, rolling his neck. As he heard a series of footsteps rush towards him, he fumbled to pull the hood back over his head, the mask stitched onto it. If the person had seen him without it, so be it. It didn’t change the fact that he would wear it from here forward. Turning to face him now, cobalt eyes shining through the eye slits, he jumped down and regarded the stranger. The mask he wore was that of a fox, painted gold but in places the paint was chipped, revealing the orange underneath. The mask itself only covered half of his face, leaving his mouth free to be viewed.
After looking the man over, the fox stepped forward and spoke in a crisp tone. “Stand up straight, feet apart, arms out, palms up.” When the man complied, the fox stepped forward and patted him down, checking for any weapons. With none found, he stepped back. “What guild?” he asked plainly. “I am merely a man in a mask, hiding in the woods. I could be a thief. A killer. A fugitive from the law. That aside, since I still seem to have your attention, why is it that you’ve come here? Why do you want to join this mythical guild you know nothing about?”

After complying with the man's request and being patted down Lucius began to answer the man. "I'm here to be part of your guild of mages." Lucius replied. "I know you are the leader. I saw your hair before you put on the hood. It's the same color as fire. I was told to look for a man with fiery red hair deep inside these forests and that he was the leader of the guild. Furthermore, if you really were a thief or a killer, instead of patting me down you more than likely would have just killed me on the spot." said Lucius in a calm voice. Realizing that he still had two questions to answer Lucius continued. "As I said before I have come here to join your guild. The reason for doing so is simple. I have always struggled with being able to control my magical abilities. When I was very young, I let my curiosity get out of hand and while testing my fire magic, I burned down my house and my parents along with it. What I want is to learn how to control it. I want to learn how to use my magic in grand ways, but without hurting innocent people. That is why I have come to you sir." After explaining Lucius became silent and waited for an answer from the man standing before him.

The words from the stranger caused a dry taste to coat the fox’s mouth, but he didn’t share that fact. No, that would be something to tend to later. He hadn’t realized the rumors had gained intensity. Perhaps he’d have to shake them up somehow, else risk being captured or wanted by the law. But, perhaps, that could be beneficial. But not right now, no, perhaps in the future. At the present moment, he had a talkative stranger to tend to.
“Unable to control it, hm?” he began, tone sounding skeptical and a bit condescending. “Well, I don’t see any signs that you can do magic. So please, demonstrate,” he prompted, but continued talking too. “Also, what can you offer to a guild? Why should you be allowed to join, hm? We don’t take in every stray cat, bird, and velvet on the street. What makes you so special as to be worthy of joining?” Tilting his head down slightly, he wondered if the man was even familiar with the term ‘velvet.’ It had been growing in popularity as of late, especially with the growing confusion of general also being a military status.
Taking a half step back, he titled his head a little and waited for the man to answer. Would he be able to? And more importantly, would Lasair be able to pick out the answer out of his long-winded explanation? Not that it was bad; in fact, it was a pleasant change from all the scared people who spouted short fragments that were barely even sentences.

At the mere question of being asked to demonstrate his magic, Lucius became very nervous. "I will demonstrate for you, but I must ask you to keep your guard up. I'm not very good at this and I do not wish to harm you." Lucius took a few steps back then held his hand out, palm towards the sky. He took his other hand and quickly struck his other hand against it with a forward motion creating a small amount of friction, the result of which was a small candle like flame in his hand. "This is about as much as I can do. It may look small but believe it or not, this is the same sized flame that caused my house to catch fire as a child and left me with this." Lucius cancelled his flame and rolled down his sleeve to reveal a large scar on his left arm and hand. After showing it for a few seconds he rolled his sleeve back down and began to talk again. "As for what I can offer your guild. I really do not know. I'm not particularly gifted with magic in any of it's disciplines. You asked what made me special but the truth is, I really don't think there is anything that makes me incredibly special. Although if this counts, I have a great aptitude for learning of any kind. I love learning of new things, and even though I am not naturally gifted at magic, it's something that I have a great appreciation for and is something I desire with all of my heart to learn. That is why I came to you. I know your guild is filled with people who must have vast knowledge of the magical arts and to study with them would be the greatest privilege I could truly think of." After his rather long explanation Lucius looked at the man with the fox mask, eagerly awaiting his response.

Lasair made no such move to step back during the man’s warning; after all, he had been working with Pyromancy for most of his life, not to mention the skill in Cryomancy he had too. Still, Lucius seemed fearful enough to take a step back himself and then bring his hands together, forming the signature candle flame. The fact that something so small had burned down a house did not surprise the fox (magical flames were oddly persistent), but it did mean that the wielder of the flame was irresponsible in allowing such a thing to happen. Something to keep in mind for the future, at the very least.
After listening to the explanation, the masked man boiled it down to a simple phrase: ‘I may not know much, but I learn fast.’ It reminded him of Howl in so many ways and while Howl had been a welcomed member, it did not mean that Lucius would be the same.
But, there was one thing that stuck out to Lasair during all the man’s talk. Something he couldn’t ignore. Scowling, he took a short step back and peered at the man, cobalt eyes blazing. “Let’s get one thing straight here. You do not know us. You claim over and over again that you do, but you do not. You’re the outsider looking in and it’s my job to decide whether or not you’re worthy of getting more than a glance, more than a rumor of what this group has to offer.”
“And from the looks of things right now, you don’t have much to offer.”
He waited a moment, allowing the words to set in, for the emotions to react and run wild in response to having pipedream hopes being crushed. And then, he continued. “But. Perhaps a test is in order. Do well and I may rethink that decision.” A devilish smile came to the Ander’s lips. “You claim to have an aptitude for learning, hm? Then put that to the test and answer a simple question—no wait, two in fact.” He lifted his left hand in the air and held it up, palm out. Slowly, the color green began to emit from his hand, being brightest in his palm and fading slightly at the tips of his fingers. “What spell am I about to cast? And, how should you react to it?”
Post by Lucius Thompson on Sept 21, 2016 23:31:54 GMT
Lucius stood there listening to the masked man's words. Though at first the words bothered him slightly he resolved to not allow them to affect him in any negative way. After hearing the masked man bring up a test of his learning abilities Lucius perked up. Lucius watched the masked man lift his hand and begin to cast a spell. After hearing the man's two questions Lucius began to think critically about what he was seeing and of his encounter with the man in the mask. Clearly what was currently in his hand was the glowing aura of a spell. Obviously the color must be some kind of indication, otherwise it would not be the only clue that the man would give him, therefore each spell must have a different color of aura associated with it. Lucius began thinking of the limited amount of spells he had read of. There was Pyromancy, Geomancy, Cryomancy, Toxins, Healing and Deceit. After taking a few seconds to think about it, Lucius internally made his conclusion and began to speak, but without looking directly at the man.
"I believe I know which spell you are about to cast, but in the case I am wrong I would like you to know my thought process so you can possibly at least see how I arrived at my conclusion. First off, you said that this would be a test of my aptitude for learning. Therefore I can surmise that the answer lies in our previous encounter. So taking that into account, I thought of the spells I knew and how the events previous to this test have played out since we met. When we first met, there are two things that stood out to me. One was your hidden appearance, something you still continue with despite the fact that at this point, the fact that you are at this point undoubtedly the guild leader I came to see. The second was the first words that you said to me. They were a lie, one again trying to disguise your identity from me, while still trying to get the reason I wanted to join your guild. With this alone I can be at least mildly sure of my conclusion but the last few things you have said have guided me here as well.
Before you began the test you both told me that my chances were slim, but then after waiting a few moments you decided to give me a test to really see if I should be allowed into the guild. It seems to me that you wanted to break me down before asking me anything, because you were hoping it would either scare me away or lead me to the wrong conclusion. All of these things have taught me that you, are deceitful in your recruiting methods. Therefore with the admittedly small number of spells that I am aware of, I conclude that the spell you are about to cast is Deceit, and based on what little I know about the spell, the only way I can think to react is to look away from your eyes, which is why I have avoided doing so throughout this entire explanation."
After giving his analysis, Lucius once again quieted himself and continued looking at the ground, with a mildly confident smirk on his face, hoping that even if he was wrong, his explanation of his incorrect answer may be enough to allow him entry into the guild he hoped to join.

The man in the fox mask waiting, processing the words as they came in. Did the man even breathe? It was hard to tell, but as he explained his logic, Lasair nodded along; the logic coming across as sound, if a little wordy. He left the magical energy dissipate from his hand once the stranger finished and nodded his head, somewhat impressed with the way the man reasoned it.
“Our secrets are what keep us alive.”
The phrase came out in a solemn tone and he took a half step back. He was not finished speaking, but merely wanted to offer some sort of explanation for why the process was the way it was and why such strict methods were needed. “You’ve passed. The way you break down a situation and analyze it can be valuable to us. So, you’ve moved on to one last part of the process. Head a hundred paces that way and take a right. There will be a large building there. Wait for me there. But, if you can’t find it, you’ll never be one of us.” With that, he stepped back into the shadows, disappearing from sight without a sound.

Lucius grinned as the man complimented his analytical abilities. He calmly listened to the man and after listening to the mans instructions and watching him disappear Lucius sat down and pulled some food out out of his bag. After a small snack he began his journey through the forest with new goals in mind.
Lucius wondered what the guild would be like. How many people were there? How many wonderful things would there be for him to learn? As he neared 100 paces Lucius turned right and after some minutes of walking he finally spotted a large building. As he looked upon what he knew must be the guild's base he noticed that the man he had met before was not there yet. Following the man's instructions, Lucius sat in front of the large building and waited for the man patiently.

Lasair took his time checking the rest of the forest for other new recruits. He wasn’t in a hurry to go talk to the Lucius boy again, but after a time, he had no choice but to return to the base. It seemed that no one else was going to be venturing into the forest on this night.
Walking through the woods at a leisurely pace, mask on, he came to the headquarters from the far side of the clearing. Crossing the small patch of grass, he looked up at the building with pride. Three stories tall, not much to look at on the outside, but inside, that’s where all the valuable information was. The library being the primary room, but the new member would get to see that soon enough. Spying him sitting on the steps, Lasair walked up, still wearing his official posture, but as he neared, he relaxed and pulled his mask off, running a hand through his hair as a smile came to his face.
“Now that formalities are actually over,” he began, extending a hand to the other man. “I’m Lasair Landevier Lupen, and welcome to the magic guild you sought after. We’re Magicae Incolentium,” the foreign words rolled off his tongue with ease. “Come, follow me inside. I have a list of formalities to recite to you and you have to listen to them.” That part was spoken with a hint of teasing as Lasair walked past him now to push the door open and walk inside. “This is MI headquarters. Only members are allowed to walk the halls, and you are welcome here any time, any day. This is a safe haven for anderkind to learn and practice magic. You’ll find the library if you walk around a bit, there’s also a variety of other rooms to enjoy. Just remember that this is a secret guild. If guards catch wind of your membership…it won’t end well. So please, tell no one of the existence of this place and never endanger the other members you'll find here.”
Stepping forward some, he stopped to stand by the rows of shelves that held their masks. But before he explained that bit, he let the other ask any questions he may have about the information explained so far.
