Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

This is a long lasting thread for all future MI recruits. At the present, Fawna Evans and Edith Tober are invited to come, if they so choose.
Lasair had taken up the job of waiting for potential recruits all by himself, as it progressively got harder for Clairee to sneak out of the house, and Danny was usually busy with, well, Danny things. He made sure to do his part in keeping the rumors of them alive, but one could never be certain whether they would be believed or not. But either way, the details never changed. Go to the borderland forest at eight in the evening (or sundown), unarmed, alone. Wait one hundred yards inside, out of sight. Someone would meet you there.
And so, Lasair sat in a tree, only about six feet off the ground, and waited. If a new member were to come, they’d have to trust the forest. He should be unseen from his vantage point anyhow. As soon as he heard movement, then he’d move and investigate.
With a weary sigh Edith trudged her way through the back alleyways to get to this "meeting place" for a "guild." Quite honestly, she didn't even know what she was getting herself into; rumors were rumors, lesson one on the streets was to never trust them. Ever. Yet here she was, quickly slinking her way to this rumored guild's recruitment spot, breaking her own rules. Part of her was alive with hope, maybe this was her chance the one she waited for and searched for her entire life, to make a difference. The sensible part was on high alert, ready for a trap. If it was just a muggers ambush, or heck even the royal guards attempting to lure in helpless Anders, heh, they had another thing coming at them. The borderland forest was insight now, she hesitated for a brief moment reasoning with herself that she had already gone this far and it would be a waste of time to turn back now. Her feline eyes revealed nothing too suspicious in the dark; so with a deep breath she marched on with bare, calloused, feet crunching over dead leaves.

The sound of footsteps brought him to alert. He moved around slightly so he could hop off the tree if need be and peered at the newcomer from the other side of the trunk. Orange eyes that were glowing, feline Ander, and they might be able to spot him with that night vision of theirs. Best to just leave the tree now, but first, he pulled up the hood of his cloak, the mostly-golden fox mask covering the upper half of his face now.
Landing with a soft thud in front of the new person, he grinned at them much like a fox would. “Stand up straight. Arms out. Palms up.” It he felt the need to, he’d pull out some magic, but hopefully this person would comply without that need.
If it wasn't for her eyes quickly catching the person perched in the tree, her fight or flight instinct would have kicked in when said person landed on the ground right before her. Probably best not to kill or run away from a person judging your worth. The gold mask was definitely weird, no royal guard would wear that and a mugger wouldn't be caught dead with gold (heck, they'd be dead before the got the chance to trade it.) The burst of hope she felt at this analysis made her feel excited and anxious, she would have to trust this person with her life if she wanted a firm confirmation of this guild. At his instruction she nodded, hesitant to speak with suspicion they would recognize her voice as a female and deny her on the spot. If they were searching for a weapon or a mechanical listening device, they would find none. Standing to her full height, she did as told and regarded the unnerving, fox like, grin with no expression on her face.

Stepping forward quickly, Lasair patted down the person, checking every inch for any sort of weapon or threatening item. He found none, but did discover that this person was female. It was good that they could pull off the masculine look.
Finding nothing, he stepped back and spoke up. “What’s your name and why are you here?” His voice held a flat, somewhat demanding tone.
Now or never time, she thought putting her arms down at his (she had confirmed up close during his inspection of her) tone. If she wanted answers, she needed to be truthful to this guy. "I'm Edith Tober, and I want to make a difference for the state of my people. I hear that you have the means to do it, have plans to do it, and I wanna be the one to go do it."

He began walking around her in a circle, inspecting her. His smile was gone now. “We have people who can go do it, as well as people who could do it for them. I want to know what you can bring to the table, what you’re skilled in.” He could judge what she was good at by looking at her, but she needed to advertise herself if she wanted it. “And who’s to say I believe you? That you want to make a difference? Any spy could spit those words out.”
Lasair didn’t like having to bear down on the possible recruits like this, but it was the way they had to do things. Their devotion had to be clear, and they needed to have confidence in their self. That’s how it was with all recruits. And that’s what this Edith would need to show now.
The man was prowling around her like a cat, which was kinda ironic seeing that she is one. Any humor she might have found in the situation, however, left at his words. Edith narrowed her eyes, she knew that she would would be judged, she had expected that. So let him judge her. "For starters sir, I would not betray my own blood." That sounded a little harsher then she had meant it to. She hadn't appreciated the spy comment, but understood why it was necessary and respected it. Still, you know, rude. "Also, you wont need to waste magic on concealment for me, I'm fast enough with my cat like reflexes and natural stealth. I wanted to get your attention, so I stepped on the leaves before now. As for clearing a check point with weapons, you don't need to sneak any weapons around with me on your side" She tensed the muscles in her arms a bit, showing them off. Widening her stance she tensed her legs, with a bit of pride because you don't find beauties like those just anywhere, and slowly drew her claws not to alarm the prowling man. "With the years of combat under my belt, I am a weapon."

As he came back around to her face again, he stopped, crossed his arms, and began contemplating her words. She was muscular, far more than anyone he’d met in the guild. She had the passion and was willing to fight with it. If she showed potential in magic, that would be a bonus too.
He smiled again. “Alright. Go two hundred yards that way and then take a right. You’ll be near a large building. If you can’t find it, you’ll never be one of us.” He gestured to his left before continuing. “Wait there until I come and get you. I gotta look for other recruits.” With that, he stepped back into the shadows and disappeared from her vision.
The smile this time around was slightly less unnerving, so she let the tension out of her limbs and retracted her claws. but before she could say anything in reply, he was gone, this time from her vision as well. Ok, that was impressive. Not to be rude, she gave s curt nod to where he disappeared to and the face towards the vague direction he had indicated as "there." Two hundred yards and a right... sounded easy enough. Her excitement bubbling over she found her self humming the entire time, up until she made the right turn and found her self in front of a large building. Alert now and apprehensive, she choose a spot near the building and perched on it. Now all that was left was to wait for the gold mask to appear again.
Fawn flew above the trees with the wind whistling in her ears. Her sage and mint wings stretched out wide to either side. She loved flying. Using a few flaps to maintain her altitude she scanned the ground with deep brown eyes. It was right around eight if she had calculated her timing right. The information she had gained led her to this point. A hundred yards in,but she didn't need to bother with trying to count from the ground. She circled a large area for a moment before spiraling her way to the ground. Having not spotted anyone from the air she figured she'd try from the ground. As much as that unnerved her. With a soft landing she folded her wings against her back, shuffling them to get a decent position, and started walking.
She came into view just a few yards from the tree. Knowing how her mint green hair stuck out made her almost cringe. She had it tied back from her flight. Someone was supposed to be out here waiting. So Fawn gracefully made her way closer trying to catch a glimpse of anything resembling a person. She would stay for a while but this may turn up as nothing but a false rumor.

Lasair had just gotten back up into a new tree when he heard someone land, as well as feel a gust of wind go by. So the new person was a winged Ander, he had to admit he was a bit impressed that she had dared to fly into the forest.
Hearing her walk up, he quietly came out of the tree and stood behind it, out of her view. Once she was close, almost next to the tree even, he slipped into the moonlight, hood up and mask on, and smiled at her while he leaned against the tree. He allowed her a moment to react to his presence before he stepped forward. “Stand up straight. Arms out. Palms up. Keep the wings against your back.” He’d treat her the same way he treated the first recruit.
Freezing in place was her first decision as she saw someone appear from nowhere. Her dark brown eyes scanned over his cloak before turning to face him. She did as he said and held her arms up pressing her wings firmly to her back. "No brownie points for hospitality." She said calmly. "And any unnecessary feels with put you even lower in the ranks." Fawn had a sense of dry humor. Preferring to keep a straight, serious face and joke around at the same time. It freaked many people out and she found it amusing. She studied the thing coming her direction that sounded like a man. Then again she had been surprised before.

When she talked back to him, he frowned. Now wasn’t the time to have a mouth. Stepping towards her, he patted her down a bit roughly just for that comment, searching for any weapons, concealed or otherwise. Finding none, he stepped back and spoke to her in a dry tone. “What’s your name and why are you here?” He narrowed his eyes at her, although the action might be lost behind his mask. “And keep the lip to yourself.”
Fawn stood as still as possible during his search. Not at all flustered by the rougher treatment, she kinda deserved it for having started the whole thing off the way she did. After he was finished she lowered her arms and fluffed her wings. The feathers laying flat and smooth. Fine, she'd save him from her low key sass, but he didn't say how long. "My name is Fawna, Fawna Evans. I'm here hoping to find a place in your ranks." She paused. "I have seen first hand the oppression of Anders and needless to say it infuriates me to no end. I want to find a way to stop it. Ya follow?" The ander woman put a hand on her hip and tilted her head to look at the cloaked one. Curiosity and sincerity burning in her eyes. "I've also heard ya had a magnificent vat of knowledge just waiting to be found." Those were her reasons and if he didn't like them oh well. Go cry a river and swim in it.
