Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Open to Stephen Money. That’s the only reason Max ever came back to the guild. It was a lot harder to steal things in the winter, especially food, so she found herself making more frequent trips to the closet of a basement to pick up assignments and then return to get payment for them.
On this specific day she had completed two assignments and planned to get a pair of gloves with some of the money. Some food was more important, but gloves would be nice. She snuck into the fake closet and descended the stairs, coming to the little room that was the headquarters of the guild. There was only one person down here today, and to Max’s displeasure it was the obnoxious Triune.
She held out the crumpled and partially wet newspaper to him, specifically the obituary, which had several named circled in black ink. “I killed them,” she said plainly and waited for her payment from the snobby man.

Triune had been enjoying the small moment of quiet he had been provided until Dagger had interrupted the peace. When Dagger entered his eyes had been closed. At the sound of her approach he frowned, opening his Cat eye to see just who had the gall to end his quiet time. After her blunt statement, she offered him what appeared to be a piece of defiled newspaper. "What, you actually think I am going to touch that trash? Read out the names and we shall see about your payment" he commented back in a flippant manner, reclining in his seat as he waiting for her response. Such an annoyance. What with his living at Zona's house now, the time he spent in CAEsAL was the only alone to he actually got. It really irked him that the someone who had to break the silence was this pain in the neck.
Max scowled at him before pulling the paper back and looking down at it. She had trouble making out the names, but after seeing the first couple letters, she remembered the name. It took her longer than a normal person to answer her request, but she managed. “Madison Emmerson, John Hawthorn, and Christopher Wilkins,” she said at last.

As Triune listened, his face became more and more annoyed. Was the woman trying to mess with him on purpose or was she just that unskilled of a reader. Given the way she read the name, it seemed evident that the second option was the case. With a sigh, he pulled out a notebook and scribbled some information down. "Fine. Take the money and buy yourself a book or something. You reading skills make me want to cry." Once he was finished writing down the note, he hopped down from his perch to go get the money for her. He returned with a small envelope filled with her payment. "Here" he tossed it to her as he jumped back onto his perch and closed his eyes in a dismissive manner.
Scowling at him, she took the money without saying a word about what she planned to with it; certainly not by a book. Then she noticed the note in his hand and raised an eyebrow at him. “What’s the note for?” she asked in a bored voice.

She didn't take the hint and leave. She was incurable. "Just some information pertaining to the guild's business endeavors. now stop prying and-" An idea popped in his head, causing his eyes to snap open. His gaze slowly drifted over to the small person next to him with cool calculation. A smile lit his features "Dagger, you are looking wonderful today- I really mean it. Did you do something different with your hair? It always puzzles me on how you are capable of keeping your locks so perfectly in place" he commented presently, twiddling his thumbs together as he plotted his next words.
Oh great. Out of all the people to want something from her, why did it have to be him of all people. This was the man who hated her most, yet he was suddenly complementing her. “What do you want and what’s in it for me,” she replied in her same bored voice. Whatever it was, it better be good.Otherwise she was going to turn and leave. She already regretted staying to ask that question.

Stephen snorted, pleased that she cut straight to the point. "There is a house that I require some items from. Would you be willing to fetch them for me? There will be a hansom payment if you do." He had to phrase this in a way so that Dagger did not know that it was from his own house that he needed the items from. No need for her to know exactly where he lives.

"I want some books from the Leland estate, since the place seems to be in shambles. I would give you titles but I doubt you will be able to read them so just grab a few books from the library that look appealing. Also, break into the kitchen and get me some fish. Do not get caught. The cook should be out around... oh, mid-afternoon; so that would be the best time to get the supplies. Do you think you can handle that or is it too much for you?" His comment about her lack of reading skills sounded a bit condescending. Not that he cared. She did not know how to read properly. It was an inconvenience that he would be unable to tell her just what titles he wanted. Shame that the poor rarely seemed to be educated. Then again, it was also a benefit for him in a way.
“Humph,” Max said, making a mental note of the instructions. “Anything else you want? And can I kill anyone who sees me or is that bad?” She had heard about him running from his wedding like a little cowered, but she didn’t realize he was so desperate as to not be able to go home. And it seemed that he didn’t know just how much information Max had on him. That was probably for the better.

Stephen paused ever so slightly, his yellow eye flashing dangerously in the dark. He then smiled lightly, leaned in and said his next words very quietly. "Why would you even suggest that? These people are not on our list to be killed. I am disappointed that you would throw out a phrase like that in such an offhand manner. Did you not understand the rules of this guild when you joined it? Let me put it to you this way: If you so much as breath on anyone in that house, I will personally break you in every way possible; and I promise to make it a very. long. process. Understood?"
She raised an eyebrow at him, but still held her uninterested face. “Is that so? Well with consequences like that, I guess this isn’t the job for me. Why not break in yourself if you’re so worried about someone getting hurt? I’m sure you know your way around the place quite well seeing as you know exactly which books are in the library and can guarantee there’s fish in the pantry.” She leaned back and waited for his counter. If he really wanted her of all people to go get his stuff, he better be nicer about it.

Stephen snorted and leaned back, talking once again with a normal, bored tone. "Fine. I could care less if you refuse to take the job. I have others I could ask for such a favor. I just thought a poor brat like you might appreciate the chance for some extra money but now I am sorry that I ever suggested it. Obviously this was a waste of my time. Leave me be, you are of no use to me anymore" he finished dismissively, turning his gaze to the ceiling in thought, though he payed close attention to the woman next to him. She was still a killer and he had probably just insulted her. It was foolish to give the enemy any openings.
Pointedly ignoring her comment about getting them items himself, he thought about who to ask next. This was his father they were talking about. That man knew his weaknesses- heights. Not only that but he was a master at hunting down his prey- which right now Stephen no doubt was. There was no possible way he could get out of that house if he attempted to obtain some items, this much he was sure of. The best person for this job would have actually been Danny but he had a feeling the boy would not be pleased to see him under the current circumstances he was in. Who else to ask then.. Maybe another CAEsAL member? That meant another person finding out where he lived and he really was not comfortable with that. Why on earth had he even asked Dagger in the first place? He was not that desperate yet.... At least, that was what he thought.
The silence stretched on for a few moments and both people were too busy thinking to continue conversation. It seemed that the lovely leader was set on being stubborn today. However, Max did want to see the inside of his house. The money would be nice too. “I’ll be back around sunrise,” she said at last and turned to head up the stairs. She wasn’t sure what to expect when she got to the estate, but she’d find out soon enough.
