Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to all: Special invite the amazing Edelweiss Fjäril!
It was one of those cold days; the kind that slipped through the cracks and swirled around the rooms, swallowing the heat. A eye patched noble was braving the cold in order to get supplies for his cats at home. If there was one thing he hated, it was the cold. Snow was disgusting, Ice was annoying, every harsh element of the season irritated the noble to no end. He wanted spring to be back. For now he would half to cub the chill by sitting next to the fire with his cats.
Unfortunately, that was not an option here out in Central Square. A good amount of people were bustling about, either unaffected by the cold or forced to be in it. Stephen spied a woman with just a shall to cover her shoulders, causing him to shiver even more. The woman was crazy. Spotting a cider cart, Stephen made a bee line for it in hopes the warm drink would do something for his numb fingers.

A figure leaned by the shade of the cider cart, turning even harder to see their features already shaded by the cold dark night. The clothes seemed to be dark, at least that one could discern. Pants stuck inside the boots. Just sitting there and seeming to rest.

Had Stephen not know the famous CAEsAL leader, he would have not recognized them. Spotting Edel- or someone who looked like Edel, he was never positive- he casually ignore her at first, buying two ciders. With the drinks in hand, Stephen walked closely past Edel, giving her a short nod in hopes that she would meet him around a less populated area of the square.

There was a glance at Stephen when he nodded, though it would be almost impossible to notice due to the eyes under the black beret and the mouth hidden by a thick scarf. The figure stood up, hands slidding into the pants pockets in a casual manner while they walked down the square to where there was less and less light. A thing the eyepatched lad might notice though, the otherwise soundless steps of his companion had a mushy, squishy noise to them, as if the boots were wet. Surprisingly enough, the scene didn't look suspicious as it sounded. Just like two colleagues who met up for a drink or similar and were too clueless to know not to walk on this parts of town after dark.

The tell tale sound of someone following him graced the noble's ears. Splendid; It was either the leader of CAEsAL on his tail now or some random thug out to rob him. Once alone Stephen turned and offered the other warm drink to his companion. "Have not see you in a while. How have you been?"

"I'm afraid that is not easy to answer." A shame one wouldn't see her little smile under the scarf. The redhead accepted the mug of cider and lowered the thick fabric - half of that expression of hers disappearing taken by the cold of the evening - and gave a small sip on the drink before finally replying. "...Alive, that's for sure. Needing new work shoes (for obvious noisy reasons) and a shower." No, she was not stinking. But presently there was still this faint, stubborn and almost metallic scent on her and her clothes that she wanted to get rid of. "It's good to be back. Sorry for disappearing for a while, I had intended to return rather quick but there were a few complications." But there were always complications for that level of thing.
"Feels like I missed a ton of things happening though. 'Heard you're getting married?"

Stephen waved his hand "It is quite alright. I am just glad to see you back here alive and well. We have a few new members in out little group. I have the information on them to give to you later." He took a sip of his drink then yawned, stretching a little. At the mention of his wedding his paused his movement, glancing at Edel with his blue-grey eye in hesitant interest. "Aha, you heard about that, did you? Well, that is correct, I am to be wed on October 30th. You have not missed to much. I made sure that Eryn was taken care of during you absence. That girl is entirely to curious for her own good" he muttered the last part with a frown.

"Ah yes, that, Jasper already informed me of them and Eryn. As well as about your little... trial changes, in my absence." She seemed deadly serious for a couple seconds, but then couldn't help but let out a snicker. "That newbie must have had a knack to miff you like that... Dagger, was it the name she received? Blond green-eyed girl with freckles. Well, I'll have a word with them all still, but it should be fine. And" since he didn't seem discontent with that "congrats on the wedding. I hope you remembered to save me a seat."
There was a short pause before she spoke again. "So, this was your first time officially babysitting everyone. How did it feel like?"

Stephen swallowed his drink, trying to look innocent. If anyone scared him, it was Edel. At her laugh he let out a breath he had not know he was holding. "Dagger certainly is a... difficult one.... Dagger managed to hurt Slip. Zorn is in a even fowler mood then usual because of it. Another thorn in my side" A exasperated sigh slipped past his lips at the recollection of that night. It was a relief for the topic change "Thank you, I will be sure that you will have on. Would not want to have you miss out on the big feast that is sure to follow afterwards. I hear there are going to be quite a few desserts available to the guests" he added the last bit with a knowing smirk.
At her question he paused to think "Well, it certainly was a... learning experience." A snort escaped him as he went on "Babysitting is certainly a good word for it. I got to know a few of the members better and hosted some trials but other then that noting to monumental went on. I hope you are please with my work. I made sure to document everything for you when you got back. You can burn the information I have written down if you wish, I would understand."

"It's certainly a thorn to the team that watched over and gave her a Pass grade. She's not a subtle one so far as I've heard. I wonder how much they regretted having to come back later just to clear her mess and finish properly disposing of bodies they didn't kill." The redhead gave a small 'it's helpless' sigh and then shrugged. "A shame, I'm sure Sam would have passed had it been a normal trial (I had hopes for that kid).... Well, who's not present cannot comment, I guess. Besides, you did pretty well overall. Now I don't need to worry as much for if comes a day where I truly disappear being like 'releasing the kraken' and everything coming apart."
Then the eyepatched lad made that utterly relieved face that they had changed the topic and started talking of lots of food and desserts, and that caused Edelweiss to smirk. "Alright, alright, you know me pretty well." She chuckled, and then settled for a smaller, calm smile. "I'll read everything before deciding if I should burn it or not, but in any case it was nice of your part - and what you described is pretty much all the job entails on the best times. On the worst times, you'd face... particularly unpleasant targets to strike down, so to say."

Stephen laughed hesitantly "I suppose that is a good thing" he commented in response to 'releasing the kraken' part. Taking another sip from the drink he sighed, looking up at the clouds "It is interesting though; we make it sound as if was just any old job but I really in not. Our 'lively-hoods' entail far more dangers and problems then the average occupation... I wonder every day how long we all have until we break from the pressure of it all." Or until they messed up and were caught. He stood in silence for a moment, reflecting on what he had done so far as a CAEsAL. Looking down to the bare bones, though he removed murderers and criminals he skill killed countless people. It was a shame, he could hardly remember them all.. "I am unable to think of CAEsAL without you, Edelweiss. Promise me you will not leave us all too soon?" he asked turning his eye once more to hers.

"It is." The redhead's lips curved upwards in a subtle smile under the scarf as Stephen kept talking about their jobs at CAEsAL. Last time she could recall they had discussed that topic, Stephen had still sounded... green. Like the idealist knight who'd seen all his eliminated targets as monsters who had never been people. Looks like that changed, in her opinion for the best.
"I see you grew up some while I was away. Not in literal height" He was already tall enough so far as she was concerned. "but about our 'occupation' in general. Lodan is a twisted city (always has been), and our job is no different." People weren't randomly spontaneously born from nothing; in every target they striked down was a life that might have had a lighter shade than the side they hunted. Even a mass murder once had parents, or might have been be a parent, a spouce, a sibling. A person.
Her voice lowered in that way it did when she wanted to sound normal and casual but be heard by no one besides who she was talking to. "We kill people who kill people to prove killing people is wrong. That's a narrow and blurry line to walk over. I sometimes ponder that no one enters this path if are not already broken in some manner, though what we do with it - if we shatter or use our cracks to our advantage and others' well-being is up to us." She raised a hand and gave a brief pat on his shoulder. "You in particular have the skill and a well-settled enough head for the duty, but is on the lucky side that you don't strictly need this as income or as ways to survive. As long as the code is not broken, you'll always have a choice - if you feel like having a different... a normal life someday and just be 'Stephen'."
Her tone of voice then returned to normal, and gained an amused hint to it as well. "But don't worry more than it's worth. I might be absent once in a while, but am hard to really get rid of; someday I'll be gone, because no one lives forever, but I don't plan to let it be any time soon. Besides, the same counts for you as well. It's nice feeling like I have a little brother of sorts."

As Edelweiss's complimented him a sense of pride swept through his chest. Well, it certainly was nice to hear that he was not turning into an insane, murdering psycho- something he worried about quite often. "I doubt you would want me as a brother but I am flattered none the less to have you as my elder sister," a smirked lit his face as he stressed that last word. Turning away, he looked down at the empty container in his hand. "I shall consider your words but I doubt I will change my lively hood soon." His reasons for taking up this job had not changed so he would stay true to them in the end. "And Thank you Edelweiss. Really. Your words mean a lot to me." After all, he had learned most of his good graces in CAEsAL from her; Not specifically his fighting style but some patients and the clarity of what this job really was. Thinking about it now, she really was the role model in his light, though they were not that different in age. No way he would admit that. Though he liked receiving and giving genuine compliments, it made him feel a tad awkward afterwards. Clearing his throat, he pulled out his pocket watch. The device was stalled and the large hand was twitching a bit. Maybe it was Edel's doing but this happened every once and a while either way. He had some Ander in him after all, an infinitesimal amount but still present. "I must be off to run some errands now. I hope to run into you again some time soon."
