Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"Magic, Nik, is wha' makes me diff'rent. S'why lotsa folks in the city don' like me or my kind. I even been called a demon by some folks. An' the reason magic don' work with tech? Nobody knows. Bu' magic's a supernatural force tha' let's me mess wit reality. I can change the world 'round me." Danny tugged his scarf back into place and continued walking. And then Viktor spoke. Danny was quiet for a moment before he replied. "I ain' one ta make a judgment jus' 'cause'a bad meetin'. If tha' were the case, I'da been dead a long time ago. I mean, I don' even need'a like ya, bu' nobody needs ta 'ave a bad day made worse. An' I've 'ad a bad day're two..."

Viktor pauses at Danny's words as the overwhelming feeling of surprise overtook him. Nikolai did not seem to notice or simply did not care as his curiosity was now aroused. "Magic is supernatural? People hate you because magic makes you different? What is it like to be different? Is there good different? Why do people hate different? Does different not allow for better survival of a species? How peculiar you living things are." It is then the doll seems to notice his brother had halted and moves to drag him along. Reluctantly, the elder boy continues moving again and sighs heavily. "I was really wrong about you, Kid. Really, really wrong."
"Do living things always apologize over petty things," the humanoid asks as his gaze falls onto the little boy leading them.

"Yeh, magic's supernat'ral. An' yeh, humies 'ate me 'cause I'm magic. 'cause I'm diff'rent, an' 'cause magic can' be s'plained. See, when folks're little, they're scared'a the dark. But s'not the dark tha' scares em. It's tha' they don' know wha's waitin' in the dark. Bu' as ya ge' older ya realize there ain' nothin' out there that'll jump out an' getcha. So they ain' scared'a the dark no more. People're scared'a wha' they don' un'erstan', of wha' they can' 'splain, an' wha' they don' know. They're scared'a diffren' things 'cause they ain' used ta it. 'cause they don' know 'bout it. Fer example, didja know tha' 'umans waged war an' killed each other jus' 'cause they b'lieved a diff'ren' thing? Or 'cause they wore diff'ren' clothes, or 'ad diff'ren' skin? Now, toss in folks who work magic, tha' look like some'a the demons outta their stories. An' followin' these folks're monsters tha' seem like they jus' crawled outta nightmares. See, Anders're blamed fer bringin' shadow beasties, an' Anders're feared 'cause we're like the demons an' devils they tell stories 'bout. We use magic, an' we don' necessarily look like humans." Danny paused in his reply before continuing. "Far as wha' it's like? Ya should know. Yer jus' like me... ya ain' human. Yer diff'ren'. But yer a diff'ren' kinda diff'ren' then me. So you'll 'ave yer own experiences tha' I won' 'ave. An' yeah, ya'd think tha' more differences means ya can solve more problems... bu' tha' ain' the way folks think."
Danny looked at Viktor when he spoke up. "Yeh, join the club. Most folks are." He tugged his scarf down and grinned at Viktor. "Don' sweat it. If I let the li'l things bother me, then I ain' gonna go nowhere."

"Fears are something I do not understand," replies the inhuman being. "Why do beings fear things? I understand there is the possibility of harm, yes, but is dying frightening? Do you fear death? Is it bad to die? What does dying feel like? Is it cold? Is it scary. I've read accounts that it is peaceful, other accounts it is disturbing... does it vary on each individual? You said no two people are a like. How does this thing called a society function then? If everyone is different, then why do people continue to exist? Should they not have wiped themselves out long ago?" So many questions to ask and with each answer, the robot had many more. As this was no topic Viktor was interested in, the red headed young man falls silent and is dragged along by his metallic brother while concentrating on the scenery as they passed.

"Well, Nik, 'ere's the thing. Folks're scared'a the unknown. An' dyin's the biggest unknown, so they're scared'a dyin' fer the most part. An' from tha' fear'a dyin' they get their other fears. Ya see, bein' scared ain' somethin' rational. Can' 'splain it other than fear's wha's kept livin' things alive. As fer me? I'm terrified'a dyin'. I don' wanna check out. There're things tha' I wanna do, stuff I wanna see... I wanna stay alive fer as long as I can. Far as bein' bad ta die? Depends on the person I s'pose. Folks who ain' 'ad a chance ta live, yeh, tha's bad. Or folks that other people're dependin' on ta keep em alive an' safe, tha's bad. But fer the old, who've seen alotta the world, they don' get so bothered by it. Guess they jus' 'ave 'ad time ta accept they're gonna kick the can. An' the method of dyin' changes alotta 'bout 'ow folks see it. Violent deaths, stuff like bein' killed or somethin' are disturbin'. Bu' a peaceful death, jus' goin' ta sleep an' no' wakin' up or somethin' ain' tha' bad." Danny's voice quivered when he spoke about folks that people depended on dying. He quickly took control of himself again as he continued. "Remember 'ow I mentioned livin' things catagorize stuff? Tha's 'ow society works. Buncha diff'rent folks get t'gether an' find what they 'ave in common, then build on it. They keep each other safe, an' in return they can do the things tha' they like, tha' make em diff'rent, while still bein' 'the same' as ever'one in tha' society. Society itselfs a buncha differences smashed t'gether ta look the same."

For once, Nikolai seemed content with the replies given to him and so the clock work machine falls silent as he drags his elder brother along with him. As Nikolai had fallen silent and the human was comfortable in remaining quiet, no words leave either for a long moment until Viktor sighs and decides to speak up. "So where are we going, kid? We goin' swimmin' or somethin'? Nikolai can't exactly do that... or are we just wading about in the water? Shell huntin'? You have me curious now."

"Ya ain' never been a Devil's Pike? Well, year in for a treat then. It's a bitova.climb over some rocky an' choppy waters, but' once ya get ta the top, the place's beautiful. It's called Devil's Pike 'cause tha's where almos' three hunnerd'a the first Anders ta come ta Lodan were executed 'cause folks though' they were demons from the Christian religions." Danny bounced along the street before he stopped. "Wai' righ' 'ere." He quickly ducked into a small food store and purchased a little basket of fruits, bread, and cheese. There was also a bottle of grape juice with the basket. Danny returned and grinned at Viktor and Nikolai. "Le's keep goin', yeh?"

Viktor and Nikolai both wait outside of the store until the boy returned to them and then Viktor frowns. "That... sounds horrible, Kid. Dunno if I want to go to some place that was where a massacre took place. Ain't right to disturb the dead like that--even if the sight is worth it." Nikolai didn't seem to grasp the concept of his brother's words however as he continued on with Danny eliciting a complain from the red haired mechanic. "Fine, fine. Wait!" Catching up to the two, the mechanic sighs. "Do people dive off of the pike or what?"

Danny shrugged his shoulders. "The dead 'ave moved on. The bodies're ain' even buried there. After the war an' a truce was made b'tween anders an' humans, the bodies were moved ta a memorial site in the main city graveyard. " Danny adjusted the basket he was carrying and glanced back at Viktor. "Ya don' jump offa Devil's Pike 'less yer lookin' fer a quick end. Nah, wha' we're gonna do's jus' getcha away from the city where ya can stew an' think 'bout yer problems. Plen'y a time fer sulkin' later."

"I see. Thought it'd be one of those places people jump off of to get a thrill... guess that's good. Didn't want to jump. So then why did we need the spare clothe? We're going on a cliff, right? Plenty high up from water? Kid, I thought we were trying to get my mind of troubles not focus on them," Viktor asks as he glances about the scenery, hands stuffed into his pockets all the while Nikolai was silent.

"Ye'll see... Toldja it's a bitova climb. Way ya get ta it's through an underwater tunnel. Some'a the rock's got somethin' goin' on wit it, prolly 'caused by some ander or 'nother, where ya can see through it." Danny turned off the road and started cutting down past the docks. "See, ta get up there ya gotta actually climb from b'low the waterline. There's'a bowl made by the rocks tha' le's ya start climbin'. It jus' don' mean yer gonna be dry an' safe from the spray."
Post by Viktor Croswell on Oct 20, 2014 6:21:00 GMT
"So then Nikolai can't come with us," he states with a frown then eyes the basket. "How are we getting that in there then? Got some magic spell or something? Say, if you gotta get up there by going underwater than how did all those anders die up there, huh? Did they capture them and make them go there or did the Anders hide up on this rock and got caught?" Nikolai looks between the two before settling his eyes on Danny. "Is there no other way up," he asks.
Post by Danny Ravensdale on Oct 20, 2014 22:05:31 GMT
"S'not actually in the water. The passage's like a big tunnel from where we go un'er ta where we start climbin'. Yer jus' gonna get some spray on ya's all." Danny walked along the edge of the beach while he spoke. "See, them anders were tryin' ta 'ide there. They kept mosta Lodan from gettin' through the tunnel 'cause it was workin' like a funnel fer the humans goin' after 'em. 'ventually, the city sent an airship ta drop marines on em, an' tha' was tha'." Danny hoisted the basket before he spoke again. "I'll be carryin' the basket. Don' worry none 'bout it fallin' or me no' makin' it."
