Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Danny was vulture perched on the top corner of one of the shoddily made buildings in Lodan's slums. Jak was nowhere to be found and the boy didn't know what else to do. He didn't trust letting Leifuric take Jak's place as he was sure the old coot would lead an open crusade against The EIRAL if he got half the chance... Clairee was sweet, but she knew next to nothing about magic. Benji was missing... so that left Danny. The boy was watching the streets below looking for anything of interest to distract him. Just where the hell was Jak hiding anyways? Nothing...
The street below bustled with the comings and goings of the poor. The world kept spinning. The day crept along... and still nnothing. Danny entered the streets himself and began slipping through the crowd. Just maybe his luck would turn up something interesting.

Lone sat at the gaping mouth of a large alleyway, half of her body covered in a straight line of shadow coming from the building across from the one she was leaning on. She was sitting in such a way that her legs were outstretched and her bare, dirt-caked feet were completely visible. In her hands was a half of a piece of bread, which she brought up to her small mouth and took a bite, chewing contently. She may had just swiped it from a stand outside the bakery, but it was wonderful. As she chewed, she heard a noise from inside the alleyway, and turned her head quickly. She could not make out anything in the damp darkness of the bowels of the place, so she turned back to her bread and wearily took another bite after she swallowed the first one. There was the noise again, and she stood abruptly, creeping slowly backwards into the light of the street behind her, staring into the alleyway in fear, her large eyes growing even larger. Of course, it didn't help that she tripped on her hair and fell in the street, right in the way of a man with heavy boots who starred down at her in abhorrence. She shot up to her feet again, but was off balanced and fell right into someone's clean laundry that they had just hung up to dry.

Well that wasn't quite the kind of distraction he was looking for... But those were Bosk's angry boots, and the girl didn't stande a ghost of a chance alone...
"What cha doin' fallin' in peoples nice clean laundry, kid?" Bosk loomed over the small child with an expression that promised he had a couple ideas for her... and none of them were good. "Why don't ya come over here for a minute, we'll talk 'bout 'ow youz can pay fer this dirty laundry..."
And that's his cue. Danny leap-frogged over Bosk with a whoop, startling the man into falling on his backside. Danny turned, stuck his tongue out at Bosk, and danced a little jig as the big man was standing up. Danny performed a pirouette and told the girl one thing. "Run." He flicked Bosk in the nose as he jumped a second time, causing the big man to crash into the wall and get a pair of dirty knickers stuck on his head as he chased Danny down the street. The boy had gotten good at ditching the street tough, so quickly lost him by going in a building, out a window, and up to the roof tops.
He made his way back to where the girl had run into Bosk and began searching for her...

Run... She was told to run, and run she did. She didn't even need this new person to tell her that. Her hands were still trembling, but she scooped up her hair so she didn't trip on it, as she had the habit of doing, and ran around the corner.... Where she halted abruptly. She didn't know this person... What if they were mean too? People usually were really mean when she ran into them... What if they were trying to get her to go somewhere where-... But they did get rid of the giant who was yelling at her... About the clean cloth hanging on the line... but...

Danny spotted his quarry. That wasn't far... The boy dropped down from the rooftops with a small thump and stood up to look at this critter he'd saved. "Ya know, when yer runnin' from somethin', it's usually smarter ta not jus' stop 'round the corner. What's gotcha tremblin' squirt?" Danny grabbed the girl's hand without even asking and started walking.

The boy landed in front of her, and Lone starred up at him with wide, fearful eyes. Suddenly, he grabbed her hand and started pulling her along, and with a small "eep!" of surprise, she stumbled along behind him. She flitted what was left of her wings frantically for a second, as a sort of subconscious motion.

"Don' do tha'. We don' wan' no extra attention, capiche?" Danny wove quickly through the slums until he came to one of his cleverly disguised safe zones. Well... by cleverly disguised it looked just like the rest of the street. Inside Danny pointed to a crate with a blanket on it. "Siddown. Wha's yyear name an' whatcha doin' messin' wit Bosk?" Danny plopped himself down after fishing out a bag of stale crackers from one of his hiding spots. He offered them to the girl as he waited to hear what she had to say.

Lone hunched her shoulders a bit as the boy mentioned her movements, and halted them. He took her inside somewhere, and ordered her to sit, which she did, but did so slowly, her whole body trembling now. She cursed herself for being so clumsy! The boy held out a bag of a sort of food-like thing, and lone reached int and took a handful, and a rather large handful at that, taking into account the size of her fingers and palm. Her trembling had slowed, and she looked up at the boy with an air of curiosity, but a little bit of fear still resided.

Danny adopted the exact same position and expression as Lone and just looked at her from between his scarf and hat. She'll answer. Danny could be patient. He ate a cracker each time the girl did, and was doing his very best to mirror the girls actions exactly. Right down to the trembling!

Lone put a cracker up to her pale lips, but it seemed that the boy in front of her did the same. Not just the same, the exact same. Every movement she made, he mimicked perfectly, and Lone, was now very, very scared. Why was he doing this? Was he scrambled in the skull?... Was she scrambled in the skull? Maybe she was making this up inside of her head! She crushed the last cracker in her hand involuntarily and grasped her skull near her ears, shutting her eyes tight to make sure she wasn't loosing her mind. No, no, someone probably put needle juice in her. She thought she had escaped the people who did that, but stuff like this would always happen when the stuck her with a needle.

"Tch... should a known." Danny dusted his hands and stood up. "Fine, ya down' wanna talk, I'll jus' go get Bosk. Ya were 'avin' a swell time wit 'im." Danny headed towards the exit and looked over his shoulder. "Yer Gonna needa toughen up if ya wanna make it down 'ere. Ain' nobody gonna save ya." Danny left, but stopped right outside and leaned against the wall. Let's see what she does now...
Post by Lone Bateleur on Sept 17, 2014 3:24:53 GMT
"Lone!" She blurted out, the loudest she had spoken in a long while, her voice still sore and rough, and quiet, still very quiet... "Bateleur!" She didn't want to go back to the scary man, even thought his boy was almost scarier in some ways... She covered her eyes with her hands.

Bingo! Danny sauntered back in with a hidden grin beneath his scarf. "A'right Lone. M'name's Danny. Whatcha doin' messin' wit Bosk?" Danny sat back down and rested his cheek in his palm. "An' wha' 'appened ta ya? Ain' usual we see us a bird wit 'er wings clipped." Danny pulled out a small apple candy from his pocket and tossed it at Lone before he got one himself and popped it into his mouth without showing his face.

Lone shrugged slowly, and looked down, obviously ashamed of something. A piece of candy flew at her, and she flailed a little attempting to catch it, overturning the box she was sitting on, and found herself lying in one giant mess of her hair on the ground. She looked up sheepishly at the boy before her, expecting him to make another comment, and covered her face with her hair. She didn't know who this boy was, after all. He saved her and gave her food, but he was harsh... Not mean... but.. scary...

"You a'righ'?" He stood up and looked at Lone. After seeing she wasn't hurt, he flopped back onto his crate. A thought struck Danny before he landed on the crate and he leaned back just far enough to make him fall off the crate himself. He thumped to the ground and lay with his arms thrown out. "Where'dja come from, Lone?"
